All those legally in this country should be entitled to fair and human treatment and all services which we generally afford to citizens of this country. The US, like many first world countries, is fairly selective about whom it allows into the country, and I believe rightly so. We allow visa's for huge numbers of doctors and engineers. But when we allow someone in this country that has neither or a skill or a sponsor, we assume an additional burden of matching them with a vocation. These people are victims of a subculture of illegal aliens which steal available jobs for unskilled workers from them. So we can either remove the illegal aliens, let them starve, or provide for them. But we should understand that those profiting from hiring illegal aliens are not the ones shouldering the burden of paying the food stamps.

We, the Marshallese people deserve the right to receive these benefits and to be able to receive all the oppurtunities that citizens of America receive. It's not like we just up and left our country because we wanted to become a burden to someby else. In my country, the Marshall Islands, people live off of the land and sea: the breadfruits, the coconuts, the fish, medicinal plants, etc. People live freely and in peace. So why do we come to America? Because we can't live off of it anymore. It's infected and cancerous. We can't eat any fish we want, because people get sick from them, we cant eat certain fruits because the either grow deformed or not grow at all anymore because of the radiation. The two main types of jobs that Marshallese most Marshallese people have are fishing and farming. You are either in the "fishing industry" or "farming industry". But how can we continue to fish or farm when mostly everything that we catch or grow are poisonous? Today, life is all about money, and with these types of jobs deminishing in the Marshall Islands, people seek refuge to the United States. The United States, agreed in the Compact of Free Association with Marshall Islands and other Micronesian Islands a friendship, in return for using and contaminating our islands with radiation. Which we, Marshallese held and still do sincerely to our hearts. In Marshallese culture a friendship entitles trust, love, and concern for one another; what's mine is yours, what's yours is mine. That is why the Marshall Islands fully supports any of United States
proposals in the United Nations, both their
troubles and concerns. So, we came here because it is a land of our friend. If you are the most richest, and a 1st world country, and your friend is a poor or a third world country, wouldn't you lend them a hand? If your friend is sick or ill, wouldn't try and help? We came here with nothing, because we had nothing. The State Food Assisstance is only to help us get our life started. NOT all Marshallese living in the U.S. are receiving foodstamps. Most of us have jobs now and we pay for taxes as well. Those who have jobs now, used to use foodstamps as well to help them grow financially and now that are stable, aren't eligible for it anymore. Those who use foodstamps also work and pay taxes just like the average citizen,
but are on foodstamps because they don't make
enough. So all taxpayers out there may complain that its a waste of their tax dollars, but we pay taxes too. But the most saddest part is, some Americans hate us just because of this, but its only because they are ignorant and not educated enough to know that this is deeper than just foodstamp cuts. Thank you.

You should come to this country for the opportunities it offers for you to survive and make a living for yourself and your family. NOT FOR AN AUTOMATIC HANDOUT!!! And i'm not just talking about the Marshallese people. You toot your own horn as the Marshallese people are all giving people "whats yours is mine", "whats mine is yours". Well we people of the United states are the same way. We give to our neighbor every day. Its called income taxes. It pays for the food stamps you use to buy food. What I don't appreciate is my Neighbor (you) telling me that I don't give him enough and he wants more. How about take what you are given and appreciate it. I know its probably not enough in your eyes but you could be living back in your own country. So which is better you decide? I'm sure there are boats that go the opposite direction. So stick around here for the OPPORTINITY not entitlement.

Well american people also live off of foodstamps. Why don't they cut it for them as well if you really think what's yours is mine and what's mine is yours. All I'm saying is we should get the same benefits that citizens do. Have you ever been to the Marshall Islands? Why am I even asking that, you named yourself "redneck". We don't want to live off of foodstamps forever! People that are immigrants come here with nothing or very lityle. Have you realized how long the process of finding
a job gets, during this time? We just want to be
able receive foodstamps enough to feed our
families, until we get a stable job. I used to live on
foodstamps, and now I don't because I have a job
that can support three people in my family,
including myself. I'm still attending college, so don't you dare say that I am just getting a free handout! And I'm mostly sure that most of other minorities are too. I could be living home, but I can't because its poisoned of radiation! If you want me to go back, come clean out the radiation! People still live there only because they have no where else to go. They don't have a choice, its still their home. Still I can't be mad at that, because we are fortunate to be here. I'm just asking to not cut the budget for Marshallese and other minorities that are legally living in the U.S. We were all once immigrants to this land of oopurtunity, and we are only asking not to cut or eliminate what has helped me and others get started. We are not asking more than that. And yes you say you help your neighbors, and that's awesome! If you call helping starting a war over oil! I have family members fighting in that war, because we love America. They are out there fighting for your freedom! Why can't you, "redneck" fight for a small favor of ours, for the sake of our children not going hungry. Thank you for your comment. Its amazing how we are able to live in one country, under one government, and under one God, but still can disagree. I'm only trying to fight for what I believe in, and if I offended you, that's okay and I'm sorry I did, at least I got to say what I wanted to say in the most respect way I can. Thank you.

Foodstamp benefits have been cut for american people also. Many times over many years have the benefits changed. Its not just you poor little innocent helpless marshallese people. But you probably dont give a shit about the poor american people. I came from nothing I had nothing I made myself what I am today and that is sucessful and happy and self sufficient and that only came from hard work. Its called labor. I never have been on any type of government assistance and pray to God I never will be. So when I hear someone say our whole people are going to starve because you wont feed us. I dont feel one bit of sorry for you. Your people can make it here just like a american born citizen can if they try. Its called work. And I dont mean to get down on just your people because there are plenty of americans that abuse the system also. But when I watch the story on the news I saw a bunch of people that looked like they could work if they had to. And I didnt see anyone there that looked liked they ever missed a meal. Like someone said though if you hid the foodstamps under their workboots they would probably starve. We as americans are not born rich like you might think. I work for my money that provides for me and my family and also provides for other americans by way of government assistance programs. So you are welcome for the food I put on YOUR table. Oh wait I didnt hear a thanks from you did I. I think im feeling a little down in the dumps today I believe I will just sit on the couch and do nothing today oh wait that right I have a job that I have to go to to pay for my food and yours I better get off my computer and go to work for us.

Yeah you should go to the local DSHS and see how many "white" people there are talking on cell phones and playing around with their ipods whilst waiting for their next handout not to mention how many of them are obese.

White people screw the system probably more if not just as much as minorities do because they don't want to get off their fat @sses and work.

One example is head start. Another is the parks. Their are so many islanders at the park in the summer time you say excuse me and things like that and they just keep being rude. Its like they dont understand anything you say. And it isnt 20 marshall islanders its 300 or more.

IS this another exercise in self-indulgent entitlement forever? The day I hear anyone talk about the way food stapms are dealt with in a comprehense fashion, I will also buy the pasion behind it

For the record: I believe EVERY resident in the US have the right to free food and cetain essentials as long as they are unable to provide for self. I do NOT believe in turning this into an electioneering industry however. I believe the best way to empower people is to empower them, not just act like a zoo-keeper.
