if he parks his truck with the flag displayed at work, it's subject to the rules of that workplace - free speech doesn't apply.
if he doesn't park his truck with the flag displayed in his workplace, whatever he does with his own property is his own business - free speech applies.

so, if he covers up the flag while his truck is on work property, he'd be ok.

i don't see why he has a problem with this.

I'm past weary of employers acting as though they own every aspect of a person's life, on and off the job. An employer buys an employee's services, not an employee's soul. Times may be tough, but not so tough that my soul is for sale along with my abilities to do a job. If free speech can be extended to the likes of Westboro Baptist Church and Fred Phelps' terrorists, it should certainly cover a bumper sticker.

What IF the Government only approves a certian make/model of vehicle, like GM (Government Motors). Does that mean Governmnt employees might not be allowed to drive anything but GM (Government Motors) vehicles?

Understanding the US Supreme court just ruled that it is legal and allowable under the US Constitution to protest at the funerals of USA Veterans KILLED IN ACTION defending the USA and it's constitution.

How can it be NOT OK to display a flag in a school parking lot AND BE OK to protest at the funeral of a USA Veteran? Presumabably one could display the Confederate Flag at a protest at the funeral of a USA Veteran in 2011.

Understanding the Confederate Flag is displayed to this day in many places in the USA. Having visited the South and witnessed the Confederate Flag displayed in graveyards on the 4th of July.

Answer that for me.

Furthermore, are non-employees allowed to display a confederate flag on their vehicles on school grounds?

What? I am no fan of racism, however whatever happened to freedom of speech and expression? How can they enforce their views on an employee. I understand if he displayed the rebel flag on a company vehicle, then he was obligated to remove it. No way they demand he remove it from his private vehicle!

I live in Virginia, but I was born and raised in Ohio. I am surprised at how many fly the confederate flag from their house here. I would estimate that 1/1000 homes flies the confederate flag.

When 9/11 occured there was a LOT of flag flying around here. I thought it was ridiculous that some many were flying these huge flags from their pickup trucks - I am talking the American flag - like about 5 ft by 8 ft or so - like they were some immense flagship. These later evolved into flying the Confederate flag.

Personally I think NO flags should be flown that are huge from truck or cars... OK for funerals - the ones they lock into the windows.

Perhaps the story here is not free speech or flag flying but the grotesque oversided piece of cloth waving from the back of a pick up truck - it's a nuisance to other drivers, and may I say embarassing to people who aren't white trash.

I live in Minnesota and served the military in Virginia. Visit a graveyard on Memorial day. Give us a count of US flags and Confederate flags on the graves. When I was there in the 1960s there were by far more Confedeate than USA flags.

IF flying flags is legal then let the people fly them however they want, within the restrictions of flying a flag. That would be not to touch the ground, always be lite up etc.

Like the pledge of alligance to the flag, flying a flag should be mandatory if you live in the USA!

Shame on them, if the crazy church can stand out there with their hate speech he certainly can on his own property fly any flag he wants to fly. It is freedom of speech and it goes both ways. Hope the dude makes a bundle on this one. I'm not buying their excuses. We need to stand up and be counted, if we want free speech for ourselves we have to protect it for others.

Perhaps as a driver, you should focus on the road and traffic, rather than the flags flying from vehicles.

It's a shame that the article does not indicate whether any of Mr. Webber's young charges are children of color.

IMO, if all the kids he drives are White, then there shouldn't be any problem. However, a man like this has no business being responsible for the safety of Black kids or of other children of color.

I agree with the bus driver Webber said It's about fighting for state rights, It's a way of life. It's who you are. It has nothing to do with racism.
But if ya aint a good old redneck you will never git it.

Really? I am from NC and that flag means heritage to me, nothing else. Wake up people. That is like a slap in the face to all OUR vets. We love the USA, but also owe a debt to our Southern forfathers, who gave their lives and homes for the cause. Not the cause of slavery, but for states rights. Slavery was the scapegoat for the War between the States. Heritage, not hate, that is what my Confedrate flag stand for.

That flag alone does not mean he is a racist. It is bull that he has been suspendid. Reminds me of those kids in the Bay area sent home for wearing american flags to school on May 5th.
