funny how the rightys blame the dems for the deficits when it was the rightys that gave the tax breaks to their rich pals further ballooning the deficit. It was the rightys that started an illegal war in Iraq and a never ending war in Afghanistan. Those tax breaks to the wealthy and corporations were financed by China (you betcha!) Dems being the most educated? You betcha! Dems all being poor? Lie.... The Righys are the most UNAMERICAN liars there are. The most patriotic are the Dems and Progressives! We don't want to send this country back to slavery or the dark ages like the rightys want to do! I.e. stripping the rights of workers and women! USA!! USA!! USA!! How about we vote in our best interests America, rather than on issues that will never change like abortion? Let's not be reactionary voters. Facts don't lie!
Frank, calm down and go take your medicine!!! Maybe your mommy will give you a pear with your dinner tonight. Seriously get a grip...your acting like an idiot.

What went "wrong" was that the tight-azzed Republican WASP's who live in Upper Arlington found out that Harry & David's pear were being picked and packed by <gasp> Latinos, who were being paid a whole 10 cents per hour above minimum wage......
Harry & David was a staple of WASP culture.

Growing up in Centerville (Bush Country; the UA of Dayton) I remember our family getting H&D fruit boxes for Christmas from my parent's business partners (usually just friends with businesses who put our family on the corporate gift list).

Now here's the ironic part- Of the businesses I know of that sent our family H&D boxes... Most of the H&D senders are now out of business!

Overpriced? Maybe. But the pears, apples, oranges, etc sent by Harry & David were always INCREDIBLE. Top quality. Jam packed with taste you never realize in pears from the local store (of course, today, we have places like Whole Foods and Giant Eagle Marketplace for people who want super high quality foods)

Once you'd eat a "H&D anything," the low priced fruit from the store would be like drinking stale beer.

Then how is Jeni's Splendid But Outrageously Expensive Ice Cream opening up new stores all over town?Ten bucks a pint ice cream doesn't sound like the folks are hurting much.
Small, high priced,$5-$20 indulgences almost always do well during recessions.

Remember the Truffle craze of the 1980's?
