I'm not sure how often you drive the roadways. It seems to be natural to go way over the speed limit . Not that it is right. No Way. The new speed limit on the LIE is now about 75 MPH. You can be doing that and someone is still climbing up your butt. It is wide spread. No excuses for anyone. It is a fact. More people speed then get caught. Something needs to be done. What that is I do not know. Parents of these boys aren't making excuses. It is happening more and more. There are no jerks here either. Just people with too much to say ... YOU. I know you are another one that never drove over the speed limit. I applaud you if you fall into that category. But I DOUBT IT!!!!!!

From http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/07/1...

"The Honda was driving at an extremely high rate of speed," Suffolk County Police Detective Sgt. Bryan McMenemy said. "One half of the car ended up on a person's front lawn, while the other half ended up on another front lawn, three houses away. The car basically exploded."

An extremely high rate of speed (90+ in a 50 zone) is something I’ve never done or even considered.

I can understand 5-10mph over the limit on the LIE. Anything over that is a risk not everyone is willing to take. I'm glad to see the Suffolk County Sheriffs are very busy writing tickets. They always seem to pull over the speeders who change lanes ten times within a mile. I'd rather see the reckless bastards go off the road to crash and burn.

It wasn't 90+. approx. 70. I've seen the official reports .Only one witness stated that and unless he had radar or was traveling next to him to know how fast the Honda was going ... then the remaining report say 70mph. Still way to fast. Guess what they are still traveling down that road the same way. As well as every other. Scary... tickets.. are they the answer. I don't know. Too many lives lost. SAD!!!! I have really had enough of this blog. Nicholas forever in our Hearts. Chris stay strong. To the rest ... who cares!!!!

This isn't a blog, it's a thread within a forum.

Ain't that nice. "Everybody does it." Maybe everybody does it because new drivers are continuously told by their parents that everybody does it.

I'll never be one of those jerks that flashes my lights at oncoming traffic to warn the idiot speeders of a cop up ahead. Good driving isn't "speeding until you see a cop, then slamming on your brakes," as so many others seem to believe.
I'll keep saying what I have to say til I'm blue in the face. Maybe one person will think twice...not so far-fetched when you consider that people continue to read & comment on what I & others say.
But make no mistake: I have no desire to see any of them dead, unless it's the only way to keep the rest of us safe.

Every parent I know that has a teenage or young driver in their household most certainly do not tell their kids it's ok to drive crazy, speed and carry on. If they did they wouldn't hurt so terribly in situations like this. It's a parents worse fear.... the day their son or daughter gets their license. Personally I think drivers ED needs to be returned to the curriculum in schools as part of a full year course an not the minimal amt of hours that is necessary today to obtain your license. It seems we are finally getting the hint. Meaning the lawmakers. The parents aren't at fault here. Most try to instill core values in their kids sometimes it takes awhile to click. Sometimes that is too late!!!! Please everyone ... drive safely. There is someone's loved one on the road with you!!!

While any death is tragic the cause of this was reckless and irresponsible driving on the part of a teenager. The result of this is that homeowners on Woodside Avenue will have to deal with a two lane road on Woodside Avenue. The current road construction will turn Woodside Avenue into a 2 lane road with a turn lane in the center and bike lanes on each side of the of the traffic lanes.

The powers that be seem to think this will solve the problem of speeding on this road. I think this will create move problems. What will stop irresponsible drivers from passing on the shoulder of the road when traffic is moving to slow for their liking. This would put the homeowners who must exit and enter their driveways in danger.

So the homeowners on Woodside Avenue must be unconvinced due to the irresponsibility of a few. UNBELIEVABLE

Bad idea! One lane in each direction on Woodside will increase tailgating and accidents. The only real safety solution is more traffic lights and a raised center median curb (like they did at 112 & North ocean) with breaks at intersections for turns. Problem is they're too cheap!

you know those accidents u speak of. amazing how he was only wrong in one. Doesn't change anything that happened and yes again a young man loved by so many is gone. Do u think any of their friends learned ... NOOOO cause I have had a few fly past me now and again. We have all lost too much with so many gone too soon. Oh and please who knows if
it is even true about the high school crap.. No one should ever force anybody to do anything but some of these girls are way too loose for my liking. Why don't we let Nick RIP and leave Chris Vogel alone. And NO I am not a family member .
