The truth of the matter is that the village is in serious need of money. The fallacy of the “Tax Neutral” village has come home to roost. The reality of having to maintain 88 miles of road is becoming an onerous task as the “DPW”(we still do not have a Highway Department) struggles to maintain the barest minimum of highway services. The new magic “street sweeper” that can sweep streets while unclogging storm drains is curiously missing in action. Yet to be seen anywhere in the village besides Neighborhood Road and Mastic Road it has not been seen in action for over a month. The last time it was spotted the “DPW” workers were wrapping duct tape around the vacuum hose.

There have been many complaints about the double yellow lines that were recently painted on Neighborhood Rd. To expect our young, dedicated new highway workers to be able to use a line painting machine without any practice or tutelage from an experienced line painter is folly. This is just another example of the loss of services that we have endured since becoming a new village. Far from the promise of “the town will continue to provide all highway services” we have had to endure an inept attempt by the village to maintain 88 miles of road.

When the village was being contemplated, the MBVEC was told the Town would handle the highway and roads while the village did code enforcement, building department, refuse among other services. That turned out to be untrue (intentional misinformation from whom, I don't know). So now the village is handling all those things, along with providing other services to the residents in a cost-effective manner. In just 2 years, the village erased 1,400 illegal rentals that were previously operating before the village stood up.

I don't always agree with Maura, or YOU for that matter, but I know it's easier to point out an error when you are being looked at through a microscope.

What she posts in her webpage is her opinion, which is her first amendment entitlement.

The TOB TOLD us BEFORE we voted on becoming a village that we would be handling the Highway and roads. Go back to any post on here before a village was voted in and you would see this. The group R.I.G.H.T. even spelled it out and how much it would cost. But, the MBVEC didnt want to tell the truth because they knew it would hurt their chances of getting a village voted in. The easiest thing for them to do was to just lie about it and blame the TOB later. Which they did. Im tired of your BullSh!t. we all knew we would need to handle highway before the vote. We knew the budget would be close to 4 million to properly run a village. the only ones that refused to believe it are the idiots in charge now. So that should show you how stupid the people in this town are who believed all the lies that the MBVEC and The vision team told.

So, the crier is at I again...

The same old "Fire Marshal Police force issue" trying to get a few people on here riled up and asks them to write to NYS to complain that the village is instead forming its own police force. This is total nonsense.

The village has submitted a petition to be able to adopt the more stringent fire safety standards that were previously adopted and in use by the Town of Brookhaven. That's all it is. Absent this application, the residents of VMB would have less fire prevention than the rest of the Town of Brookhaven.

And now, I expect a few insults to be thrown my way...have at it!

how would we have less protection then before?
We have a fire department in our village. It's pretty close to where the fires in MB would be.
The Only thing that would change is we would have a fire marshal that could carry a gun and would not need a warrant or permission to force their way onto your property or into your home. And as always, we would not know who that fire marshal would be, how many "deputies" they would hire or arm and which houses they will target. Because if the village gets this, you can bet they will target the ones they don't like and do what ever they like. Just like they do now.

This isn't an issue of fire safety. It's an issue of how much power the village can get and who they can harass with that power.
Send in your letters. Show the village that we don't want armed marshals down here. Because think of the people that the village will give this job to and who will then be walking around with a gun. Zany? Brady? Gary and everyone of his family members?

If this happens, what is stopping them from shooting your dog if they come across it in your yard or trying to get into your home.

there is a section in the proposal on dogs. You need to have a sign posted if you have a guard dog. If it's not posted, I'm sure they would feel completely justified in shooting it if they "needed" to.

its not IN their proposal, but according to NYS law, they are justified in carrying one and allowing as many "deputies" to be hired as needed. I realize the village trustees say they won't do this, but when have they ever done anything that they said they wouldn't. Remember "we DO NOT want the clubhouse or waterfront"? How'd that go?

So far so good. They are going to shoot dogs...really, what about kittens? Typical scare tactics. The fire Marshall in Brookhaven is armed and it is a deterrent when an arsonist is arrested. All the village is doing is conforming to what Brookhaven has been doing for years. This. Is not a quasi-police department. The MBPOA is bound by the deed to turn over the private property but since they refused, the case is in court. Stop repeating the same stuff. Not everyone who was in MBVEC wanted the properties, but the need to have the legal issue decided is necessary. Let's say the village told the MBPOA to go ahead and keep the properties, then they could sell them and keep the money. Or, residents would sue e village for not pursuing the asset that the deed says should be transferred for the enjoyment of all village residents. Any way you look at it, the court must decide.

Any Fire Marshall who carries a gun has to have peace officer status. In order to get that you have to go through the Suffolk County Academy for police officers. Even the Marshall has to complete the academy. I am against them even doing that.

This is not a "shoot the dog" issue. People are already supposed to post dog warning signs to protect emergency service personnel for an occasion IF THERE IS A REASON to enter a property to address an emergency, such as putting out a fire. This is to warn and protect fire dept., ems and police from being bitten while they try to help you and protect your property and family. Why is everyone here is so stupid?
