When did protect and serve, become oppress and offend?
Yes there are excellent police officers on both forces. But the police I or others have encountered seem probe to intimidation and bullying:
1: Every traffic stop becomes an excuse to search a car.
2: Elderly citizens report suspicious activity because a black man is to pick up his girlfriend from work. Girlfriend is running late. Pulled over on Tuckerton, light flashing, pulled over – suspicious activity. Of course the car is searched. Results – ticket for a taillight.
3: Handicapped person driving specially equipped car. The driver is pulled over because of a tail light. Officer “That looks like pot on the floor of your car “. Driver ‘That is dirt try again”. Results – ticket for a tail light.
4: Relative recovering from cancer driving in Medford, had not realized that the inspection sticker had expired by 1 day. The relative had just received the clearance to drive again that very day. Pulled over and given a lecture on how powerful the officer was and can have the vehicle towed away. Results - a ticket for expired inspection sticker. Funny thing they did not search her car.
5: Young children tossing a bottle back and forth, maybe 5 feet apart. Bottle falls and breaks. Kids were in process of cleaning up no damage done. Neighbor calls police. Children charged with disturbing the peace.
6: Elderly women drives around traffic onto shoulder to get around a backup. Mind you maybe 10 – 15 cars have done this already. The women ask “Why are you ticketing me?“Everyone is doing it to keep traffic moving. The response “I only saw you”.
7: Teenage driver pulled over. Officer states” I thought the inspection sticker had expired”.“So when the last time pot was was smoked in this car.” The car is now searched …results nothing.

Believe me the list goes on forever.

No doubt those Medford Police have come Un-Glued!I've seen them hiding in they're cruisers in rural areas like the VFW near Kirby's mill, and on 541 near the edge of Lumberton. Can't they find anything better to do than "stake out" on someones front lawn thinking they,ll find some sort of illegal activity among the horse farms?I mean...WTF???

Problem is why the non-civil servant is having hours cut, layoffs and loss of benefits, Medford has about 70 cops and nothing to do. So they make up something to do. Did you know that a Medford cop makes about $1000,000. yr plus benefits with overtime???? As soon as property values stablize I am out of NJ.

Hope to be moving soon's post is ABSOLUTELY 100 % correct. No police officer will admit it, but he hit the hammer on the head. But then again it's hard to have actually GOOD officers when you have a chief (canale) with a butt the size of his head. And i mean that in the literal and non-literally. But also from first hand experience all cops are like this whatever town your in. Young teens are TARGETED to pull over with a bull ?@>$% excuses just to see if there's anything suspicious in the car. Police officers enforce the law they aren't the law, well actually what the hell Medford citizen is able to say that it won't get anyone anywhere we mine as well say that the medford cops are above the law or they are the law, or at least that is how they act and i guarantee if your a medford cop or were one, you'll never get a speeding ticket!....pigs.

A teenager going down jackson ave. Patrol car going the opposite direction. Patrol car makes a u turn and remains approximately 1/2 car length behind kid's car. Patrol car then proceeds to follow the car all the way down tuckerton and atsion road. Teenager turns into street where he lives. Patrol car stops does a u turn and goes back in the direction it came.

Young relative driving in Medford with an expired inspection sticker. Pulled over for same. Officer asks about sticker and relative explains that she didn't even realize it. She is warned and encouraged to get car inspected and allowed to leave. Not five minutes later, she is pulled over by another Medford officer for the same reason. She explains that she was just pulled over and given a warning. Officer confirms, apologizes profusely for pulling her over.

Sounds like Medford cops doing their job professionally and courteously.

I'll admit that I get as annoyed as anyone when the police car blows past me on the highway while the officer is driving without wearing a seatbelt, talking on a cell phone, changing lanes without using a signal, etc... But to say a police officer is abusing his power by looking in a car when they pull them over for a traffic violation is ridiculous. I hope they look all the time and help get the drugs and drunks off the roads of our area.

Medford and Medford Lakes are blessed with caring and competent police forces. The crime rates in our area are very low, due in large part to the excellent work of our police forces.

Yes
Medford, Medford Lakes does have a realitivly low crime rate. And yes there are some excellent police officers on both forces.

That still doesn't justify going on "fishing expeditions", following a young driver halfway through the town just waiting for a reason to pull someone over.

Having 20 people ride the shoulder of a road only to have the 21st pulled over and claiming "I didn't see the other drivers".

Writing kids up with completly inaccuarte details of an incident that is later dismissed due to the errors.

Pulling a weapon on a kid with a spud gun.

Every single incident I have listed has happened.

I have the utmost respect for law abiding police officers. The others well maybe they are in the wrong line of work.

Again, the point passes over your head. The police here are "wonderful" but in today's economy there are too many and they are overpaid. That is not a "lie."

Idiots always resort to vulgarities when they have nothing to say. As to leaving, I see you are already in Florida. Alot cheaper there, huh?

you medford cops are all scumbags and you do search cars illegally cuz youve done it to me twice and to plenty of my friends. you guys are rent a cops that dont know what a real cops job is like. Try working in camden and youll see what a cop is supposed to do to earn a paycheck. you guys are all rookies as far as im concerned.U shouldnt make more that 7.50 an hour. U all need a reality check and i like certain medford police officers but the majority of you guys are roid heads on a serious power trip. Rot u corrupt ass losers and get a job where your needed, like a school janitor or something, then youd be helping your community. PEACE OUT

I strongly doubt that medford cops make $1000,000 (one million)a year plus benefits. On that kind of salary, they could retire after 5 years on the force. I'm pretty sure, they make 100,000/year at most after being on the force for 10-15 years. Most officers start at $70-80k/year and work their way up. Just wanted to clarify.

Some of them are very good decent people and they do have many that are on a power trip. Check out their salaries on "http://php.app.com/NJpublicemployees/search.p... ; (copy and paste link). They make double what camden city cops make. I guess because Medford is soooooo dangerous. Don't enter a name, just pick the agency and it will show you all of them. Oh-and wait until you see how many make >100,000

I agree...sitting in the parking lot of the Medford Lakes Fire Dept is real tough work. Especially running the plates looking for registration and inspection violations. I can certainly see how that would keep crime down. Oh and also sitting outside of the parking exits of PJ Whelahan's only to be followed home to see if you cross the center line. I refuse to go there even for a dinner as I don't want to be harassed. I think the problem is that there is not enough crime to keep these guys busy so they get creative.

Being a Medford resident, I am satisfied fully with the police department. I believe they are dilligent and effective at ensuring that the town is safe. It is a good feeling to hear all the complaints because they say that if citizens aren't complaining then police aren't doing their job. If you aren't doing anything wrong you have nothing to fear. This type of policing develops a reputation that keeps the scumbuckets away because their nonsense won't be tolerated or overlooked. Keep up the good work boys.

Here's a simple notion: If what you are doing, or the vehicle you are driving is in CLEAR violation of any law, then ANY police officer has EVERY right to detain or stop you, and investigate the matter further.....If you feel the officer(s) acted in ANY illegal or unprofessional manner, call the county prosecutor's office.....In Lumberton (another department which has gotten a bad rap), the police officers each carry wireless transmitters that record audio from each investigation they are dealing with.....This recording is saved, so whatever claim you idiots are making can be verified.....I'm not certain, but I'd be willing to bet Medford has these very transmitters... Now, remember this: Whether YOU feel something as simple as an inspection sticker expired for one day is not that big a deal, it is still in CLEAR VIOLATION of the law.....Here's a clue: Don't CLEARLY violate the law, or deal with whatever penalty to receive.....If you want those cops to ignore crimes, no matter how insignificant to YOU, maybe you should move to Camden....They ignore quite a bit there.9932

First, many people get breaks for the violations. Medford Officers do carry audio transmitters, as well as video. These same officers are held accountable for everything that they say and do. In most cases these same officers are the ones that are subject to critical reviews, due to erroneous and outrageous claims from the public. The checks and balances within this department, far exceed most every other department. These same officers are proud to wear the Medford patch and uphold the expectations of the public for which they serve. They serve with honor and dignity !!! Following the Mission, Vision, and Value statements.
