Property taxes continue to rise in county

Property taxes increased in at least 28 of Burlington County 's 40 municipalities this year, according to information obtained by the county Board of Taxation.

How many Governors have tried to tackle NJ's taxes? Don't bet on Christie doing anything significant to lower your taxes. It's not a partisan issue, it's just the fact that it will take years for the state to rebalance it's budget and funding models.

However, you can affect more immediate change in your own hometown by voting against croneys, goombas, and other city council lifers. You know who they are, vote them out.

I find it ironic what it costs/taxes to live in NJ vs. in another state like SC. For what it's worth I paid in Medford Lakes property taxes in 2007 almost $8,000/year. I retired to Hilton Head SC last year and my tax bill is $800/year. How can this be? In SC the schools are bad, but the citizens have the option to send their children to private schools. Pay as you go education.(What a novel idea!) Just imagine what your taxes in NJ would be if they took this approach. Other services in SC are combined. Not local but regional.

Towns like Medford Lakes who cry that by combining services with other communities will loose their uniqness. I can think of better ways to spend my money than holding on to ML's uniqness!! But that's just my opinion and I decided to move and put all that tax savings in my pocket for improving my standard of living. Best decision I ever made.

Oh, one last point. Just before the door slammed leaving NJ, I was handed an added tax bill for exiting the state. If that was not insult to injury. ONLY IN NJ!! Just wanted to inform you that the grass is greener on this side of the fence. What a lovely view it is.

Being proud in NJ is good. Watching others enjoy the fruits of your labor/taxes is just plain foolish. Whatever one chooses to do is their decision. I'm sure all those Abbott schools throughout NJ & Camden appreciate your tax contributions.

Well, to be honest, most of "us" deseserve it... and I'm tired of fighting (but i still do). You live in a Blue-Dog people's "socialist republic" of NJ, where you want (or dont fight against) meaningless laws and controls, and social programs for everyone. Well, wake up folks, that costs money. Take a look at ppl like Frank Launtenberg who you'll reelect until he dies of old age, and the laws and social agenda he pushes. You want "change" ??? Vote them all out. This time, next time and time after that -- and watch CHANGE.

Not to mention, LOOK AT YOURSELVES, and remember, this entire friggin state is made up of ppl who feed off the public teet --- School teachers, School Administrators, Nurses, Doctors, and "hospitiality workers". You don't make ANYTHING, you "produce" nothing..you sell nothing but tourism. SOOOOOO, when it comes time to cut Govt, social programs, or taxes where you jokers make your money...OH WELL, you'll have none of that, right? Well, this state will be the first to Backruptcy (even CA doesnt beat us)..and then you public parasites are in big trouble.

Oh interesting MISSY! And I bet from that statement alone you're probably a RETIRED SCHOOL TEACHER (as i was saying). Because its a proven fact that most School teachers in this state, retire to NC Or SC. WHY? I'll tell you, because they don't tax your RETIREMENT BENEFITS and most teachers know it. One lead admin was asked "why all our teachers are retiring to NC" and he replied "Because they have a smart accountant". And Im sure to save face, you'll say "no", soo what EXACTLY did you do then to make an "honest living" in this sad state (of affairs)

No I'm not a teacher. But whoever said teachers were stupid? I'm not surprised that they move to NC & SC. But the facts speak for themselves. NJ is a very expensive state to be a resident. I made a very good income when I lived in Medford Lakes. Jobs do pay well in NJ but so are your expenses & taxes. The only point I wanted others to be aware was that when one retires, the cost of living in NJ is probably $10K higher than living in SC. Taxes being the largest savings. Why is it Jersey costs so much? I have to think it's the educational system and all that goes along with it! Abbott schools, high teacher & administration salaries, pensions & health care. Infact most public employees are far better paid than the remaining private sector, when you take into account their benefits and other perks.

Life is choices. NJ and the shore is a great place to visit. I just choose not to be a resident and saddled with all those taxes to fund all those abbott schools throughout the state.
