CHIEF please control your department. Use the kid as informer for CDS at Shawnee. If the arresting officer is other than a rookie, I predict that he will be drummed out for some infraction not related to this. Look at the posts on other sites, Medford PD is a laughing stock. He reflects on all of us. Chief get this matter moved to mediation and quiet the press. See story:02/26/2008 11:42 AM ID: 68795
Teen Charged Over Use of Potato Gun
New Jersey: 18-year-old Ryan Welch has been charged with violating the peace and good order after police found him firing potatoes into the lake with a potato gun.
Police attended the area after a report came in of possible gunfire. Welch was taken to the Medford Township Public Safety Building where he was charged and then released. He will front court on an undisclosed date.

Retired Cop - good post.
Did you know that one of the officers approached Ryan (and his 12 year old brother) with his weapon drawn and pointed at them? Did he honestly think he may need to shoot them? They could clearly see from the far side of the lake (yes, I know exactly where this took place)that he had a potato launcher.
What bothers me. These officers witnessed nothing.
they didn't see Ryan shoot the launcher, they didn't hear the launcher as the were driving in. They are simply going on a neighbors call that they heard "gun fire".
Then they threaten to charge him "possesion of an illegal weapon" but reduce the charge to distrubing peace and good order.
How does an officer make the charge when they witnessed nothing? Is it standard procedure to write a summons based on a neighbor reporting a noise?

thats bull shit Cheif Canale is the laughing stock of the Medford PD, there are some good patrol men and women especially but having his gun out and pointed at them two when he approached them? He needs a fucking gun pointed at him and his little kids if he even has any then lets see how they feel? Nice work which ever cop was on call for this incident.

Im from the area of medford. the cops there, not speaking on all of them, are trigger happy. they love to harass at any given second. Who hasn't made 1 or 2 spud guns in their time. it seems to me that the kids were being responsible enough to discharge their contraption into a lake. like i mentioned this is no attack. just mere observation from this guys POV. i have had a few run ins with them and they have a hatred for minorities teens and anyone who may seem to be having a good time. yes we need law and order especially now in these tough times but that duty should have more honor for the badge and the people they are supposed to respect. and for human compassion. just another jersey male to end up without their license because some cop had to get off that day.
shout out to Robey. officer russell if u stil up there.

Its always been an over bloated police department any how. You see the important crimes they are dealing with. Watch out for the corn thrashers in the fall of 2010. To think I worked midnights by myself with the nasty government projects.

My God! There are police everywhere in this town. There is a large photo of the police department in the lobby of the municipal building. It shows around 70 officers and a lot of white shirts. Is it true that these officers make 100 thousand with OT? Is it true they get 66% of their highest 3 years salary for the rest of their life and free medicals? Is it true Medford is increasing assessments this year because of the police budgets? Is it true that the majority of their arrests are for motor vehicle tickets, marijuana arrests and juvenile crime? Is it true that a Philadelphia cop makes $34,000.00 year and faces danger everyday? I wish my house would sell. I'm out of here before the assessment.

Don't be fooled by AARP's support of the recently passed health care legislation. It actually supported the more radical House version and is not acting in the best interests of seniors in general or their members in particular. It is only looking out for its own organization. It knows the legislation will create large gaps in care for many seniors, and it will soon start its campaigns for selling supplemental health insurance to fill those gaps. In the coming weeks and months you will see increased advertising from AARP offering supplemental health care insurance. It is no longer an organization I will trust or support.

I came across this blog when I was searching for how many murders (if any) there have been in Medford because I now live in the Orlando area and I am sick of paying high property taxes and having zero to show for it.One night I caught a couple stealing mail out of our mailbox (in our gated community). When I called the police they gave me the number to the post office. They were too busy hanging out at the Tot Mom, Casey Anthony's house. That would not have happened in Medford. NOW I am not totally defending the Medford PD because they are way over the top and arresting a kid for a potato launcher sounds like classic Medford PD BUT what I am saying is appreciate the law and order you have because I sure didn't when I lived there.

Never there to stop the drugs and the people overdosing on heroin. Nope, they're there to pull you over for any minor infraction. To leech the money out of your wallet. Consider it your "Donation" to our marvelous establishment of a force. It's cheaper to just avoid driving through his hell hole of a town.

The Medford police department is a disgrace. How many police chiefs have we had in the last ten years? The insiders promote each other to chief and then retire with a very fat pension and benefits for life. They then bring there next in line up to chief for a few years so he can do the same.It should be criminal! They fought very hard to keep the local dispatch unit which was totally redundant and cost the tax payers over $800,000 per year..Thank God for our mayor, Bobby Martin, and councilmen like Dave Brown who bring some common sense, integrity, and a strong desire to do what is right for the tax payers. Next time you see Chief Canale ask him how much pot and other drugs he did in Wildwood during the summer!

Hey Pete. Wake up! Your attitude is why these thives get away with what they due. Why don't you take your money and flush it down the toilet. Paying your outrageous taxes is doing the same thing!

They are everywhere! Chief Canale what is the ratio of cops to citizens in Medford. How does this compare with other N.J. towns. Thanks for arresting the potato gun bandit. I can sleep better at night knowing your storm troppers are on the job!

I forgot to add that chief Canale and his merry band of thives can retire after 20 years. A friend of mine retired from the Medford P D and his pension was $80,000 + benefits of $10,000.He was 50 years old.The average life expectincy for a male is 78 years. Due the math.
$90,000 x 28 years =$2,520,000.Sounds fair to me. I wonder what other residents feel about this. Canale, your favorite saying is "MAN UP" Why don't you take your own advise.I look forward to a response but I highly doubt you have the courage! Lets see!
