in the face of depression and heartbreak over a loss or any other tragedy, of course things will be used that provide any kind of emotional relief. whether its alcohol and marijuana, prozac and vicodin, or painting and listening to music. if you want answers, you're asking the wrong questions. no need to ask "why was alcohol involved" in relation to grieving or mourning a loss. how idiotic can you be? you're going to preach ethics to a crowd mourning a loved one? either way... Drew, Nick - i love you.

I personally know Nick and Drew both, and most all of their friends. This should not make yall want to go out and party even harder. It should teach all of you a lesson. I actually know how hard yall party and how much you pary and I know Drew would want this to teach his friends a lesson and maybe calm down a little. As you can see, a horrible accident like this can happen at any time to any one of you. I pray that this can show all of you that and teach you a hard difficult lesson. You can not party the way you guys do and think you are invicible.

It is a tragedy. But there were no "responsible adults" around. The house was rented to a group of "college students" That house has a long history of trouble...Shame it this had to happen.
Well hopefully the Hanover Sheriff's Department has now put this house on their proverbial "radar" and will keep a close eye on it from now on, before another tragedy happens.

so what if we drink and smoke blunts in their honor? they would've had it no other way. all of you people are hypocrites because when you were our age there is no doubt you were drinking and smoking pot too. these things happen to everyone regardless of age. this could've happened to a middle aged group of people. age doesn't matter. it's sad and unfortunate because so mannyyy people are hurting right now. Drew, Julie, you guys went way to young and I knowww yall are up there drinking and passing blunts back and forth with Biggie.
I have never drank alcohol or used any drugs not legally prescribed by a licensed doctor. So don't assume that. You are correct this could happen to anyone of any age, but if it hasn't opened your eyes to the dangers of drugs and alcohol, then you have a serious problem and should seek help. AA and NA are readily available. Go talk to your family doctor. Get help before this tragedy repeats itself.

Yes this is tragic, but WHY drink to grieve a death? I heard MOST of the people there that night were DRUNK or HIGH! Most of the teens/adults that were friends with both have now posted on their facebook pages, "Drinking in your honor man!"-"Having a blunt for you dude!" What the heck? You would think this WOULD be a wake up call for many of the HANOVER COUNTY kids, but it's NOT!
Unfotunately they will never learn no matter how many of their friends are killed senselessly or needlessly. Look what happened in Henrico a few years back. That girl who killed the guy on New Years. Then Henrico police make 1000's of arrests of underage drinkers. They didn't learn, this is a cultural issue. Movies, music, etc showing excessive alcohol use at that age. Parents who say I did it when I was their age. No one wants to hold these young people accountable for their actions. I sincerely hope this opens at least one young persons eyes to the dangers of alcohol and drugs and makes them questions their decisions.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. Hey little kid, grow the hell up and own the hell up! Moreover, I put myself in the shoes of others daily. I am in the military, and I protect your little punk rear end daily. What do you do? You waste your life. You smoke pot and act like a simple punk. Is this how your parents raised you to act? If so, I blame them first, and you second. Your friend screwed up big time! Don't try and justify a stupid evil act! Have some damn respect for others. Perhaps, more importantly, show some respect for you family, heritage, and honor. Generation X seems to think of no others but themselves. God help the future of this great land. Oh well, that's ok little kid, I will continue to fight for your right to waste your God given life. This generation make me sick!!!

Some of the comments posted on here are really not needed. How would some of you like to hear people talking badly about your child, or your friend? Accidents happen and everyone has their own way to cope and deal with the pain they're feeling. I feel like some of your cold hearted words should be taken into consideration. Stop asking us why we drink, or why people smoke. If there's one thing you should be doing is praying for both of these families! It's a difficult time for everyone. Nick and Drew are two of the best people you will ever meet and are the best of friends. I ask that you please just watch your verbage and comments on here and keep other peoples feeling in consideration when you blog about your personal opinion, and pray for everyone involved. Drew we love and will miss you, and Nick we are praying for you, you're not alone! <3 (To the women on the memorial site posting blogs, please stop, you're not helping anyone except maybe yourself feel better)

Hey these people need our prayers. Lifeterm, get off your high military horse and show some compassion and empathy. Nobody is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. The last time I checked, everyone had a crack in their ass!!!!

I will pray for compassion and mercy.

If Lifeterm is not nice, I will pray that he accidently shoots himself in the foot.

Your being miss deeply Drew!!!! Its so sad how many friends everyone has lost in the past couple years to drinking involving a vehicle. Drew is number 4 for me, its definitely a huge eye opener and i do not drink and drive under no circumstances and i believe this is true for a lot of people close to the ones we've lost. Theirs nothing wrong with drinking or smoking pot its when you get in the vehicle, you put everyone at risk. Not saying Nick is to blame at all its a true tragedy but it was preventable. I really hope everyone thinks before they put the keys in the ignition because this just shows how easily the ones we love are gone and what it does to all the friends and family. So maybe in some off way Drew saved someone else life because im sure his story got one person to think twice about driving under the influence.
RIP-DREW JOHNSON
RIP-R.J. WEIGANDS
RIP-DG GRIFFITH

YOUR ALL MISSED EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!!!
my prayers go out to all the families and friends who have lost someone special that can never be replaced.

Point 1: I have lost many friends, and I have never made excuses for their stupid actions.

Point 2: I have a B.A. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University

Point 3: You are a stupid, ignorant, punk kid without a clue.

Point 4: Your parents failed.

I signed a paper after I was awarded a B.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University. I was over the age of 30 when I enlisted to serve my Country. I have two jobs you ignorant little kid. I do very well at both. I have a very well paying job Monday through Friday. I serve our National Guard with the rest of my time. Therefore,(let me spell this out for you little kid) I joined the military as a result of doing the right thing. It was not for the pay. I do very well for both myself and my wife and children. Moreover, they have parents with a structured life. My children have honor and integrity built into their daily lives. Now, would you like to try again you stupid little kid? Either way, your parents too failed at the most important of all tasks. You know nothing of honor, respect, and valor.
