I would just like to know how you people can make so much fun of this situtation. 90 years is a way to prevent him from getting out of prison in a couple of years and doing this to another child. All of you people who think this is to harsh well why don't you all go to his court sentencing and tell the judge that you want him to come live with you and your children so yall can look after him. Come on people would you really want him living next door to you and your little children. He is not sick like some of you want to pretend he is at the ripe old age of 81 you cannot tell me he did not know what he was doing. Being a minister he more than anyone else should have never done what he did. Would like to know what his religion say's about what he did. His fate is now in God's hands. As for the police who were involved I applaude you for the wonderful work. If it weren't for you guys more children would find themselves in trouble. It's nice knowing that your on the internet looking for just these kinds of sicko's. Maybe al of you people who think it's funny or well he's an nice old man should watch TO CATCH A PREDATOR it comes on MNBC,If you saw how many sick people there are out here you to would applaude the police or anyone else thats helps to put these people away. One more thing you think he was entrapped by a 13 years who was encourageing him,so what if she was, don't you think a man of his age and being a minister should have the good sense not to talk to her. He talked to her not once, not twice, but I think I read he talked to her three times, come on people. If you think that this is funny or feel sorry for him then I feel sorry for your children, your little sister's, your cousin's,or your friends, because believe me even though he is going to prison there are far more out here to take his place.I pray to God that this never happens to a love one of your's.

Its obvious the man deeds to be punished for what he did, and soliciting sex from a minor is a serious crime but to give a man 90 years whether he is 90 or 19 is a bit excessive considering he didn't actually talk to a minor (in this case) and if the officer was taking part in a "two way" conversation its likely he was at least a little bit "Lead On" OI think that the officer would have to be a borderline pervert at best to sit there and pretend to be a young girl pretending to want to have sexual relations with another man... Don't get me wrong I feel very strongly about exterminating child molesters, but you cant give a person a 90 year sentence for "Chatting" and someone that actually molests someone 5 or 10 years that's just a slap in the face to victims all across the country. Some of these laws were created with the best of intentions but they sometimes do more harm than good, a rational person (possibly even a child) realizes that this 90 year thing is excessive and it could actually prevent a victim from coming out because of it. Kind of like the whole "sexting" thing its out of control A girl takes a snapshot of her "puppies" and sends it to her boyfriend, they get in argument, he sends it to her friends as a get even caper (I'll agree its a little distasteful and disrespectful) and all of a sudden he is trafficking "Child Porn"... Society is so twisted at this point in time I'm not sure we can ever get all the knots out of it...

You are correct in many ways.I was the first to say this guy needed to be punished, taken off the streets, but I'm not so sure 90 years for attempting to commit a crime is exactly justice.
No one, especially me,is taking the side of internet predators or child molesters.I think when they're caught, like this man was, they need to be punished and monitored when they eventually get out.
What we have here is the result of two decades of lawmakers trying to get them selves elected on a law and order platform. You have to be"tough on crime",and that's all well and good, except when it gets to the point that laws and punishment turn absurd.
Each election, the candidates must be"tougher on crime"than their opponents, the legislature must be"tougher on crime"than the previous session.Lawmakers are supposed to do what?Make laws. They keep going, keep running with the ball, until we can get some pretty silly stuff on the books.Of course,no one wants to oppose,as that would make you"soft on crime"and you might not get re-elected.
The simple definition of justice is when the punishment fits the crime.I think something like 10 years would be closer to justice for attempting but not actually pulling off the crime. For this guy, that's as much a death sentence as 90 years.

Just as a footnote,and to make a point,yesterday a man was sentenced in Waynesboro for actually molesting a child.This guy actually sodomized a 10 year old boy(on two seperate occasions)and got 10 years.To me,90 for attempting,or soliciting,is a bit much.

My exact point, this is a prime example of how the current state of our justice system is a complete joke...
We prosecute soldiers for murder when the make mistakes in the heat of battle, We lock people up for years for tragic traffic accidents (yes even non alcohol related accidents that actually were accidents), We give drug runners 10 years for murder and life for dope them wonder why they kill witnesses or run from the police causing more death. Now we have a horny possibly perverted old man who has a sexy chat with another man pretending to be a girl and he gets 90 years in prison? Lets be reasonable here... 90 years? and a man gets 10 for multiple counts of sodomy... In a twisted way that's just telling the perverts of society that they are better off just grabbing a kid off the street that chatting online... Look if your kid is 13/14 and they are molested my a neighbor/relative it may be reasonable to believe that you had no idea it was going on. But if there in a chat room offering "Services" they weren't raised quite as good as they should have been...
