Crashes follow slowing traffic on I-81

Police report that drivers failing to slow for traffic on northbound Interstate 81 near Pa.

Sounds familiar. Was on 81 southbound yesterday near, I think it was, Lincoln Way. One of those on ramps that has the stop sign at the end. A little blue car was stopped, a Large cargo type van from Virginia almost rear-ended that car. I went into the passing lane to avoid being hit by the van. That van then passed me like I was sitting still. I was going 55 and it was raining. IDIOTS

As a driver who goes by this exit almost every work day, road construction probably was a minor hazard on Wednesday. Especially since no one was working when I passed at 7:20am and it wasn't raining. This interchange gets dangerous during rush hour because of all the traffic getting on Northbound 81. It is not uncommon to have a backup 1 to 2 miles before you get to this interchange because traffic is forced to slow down or change lanes to let traffic merge onto I81. You add all the truck traffic that gets on at the New Kingston interchange, you can get quite a backlog. It's not unusual to come to a complete stop before reaching the Mechanicsburg exit. This would be one of my picks to widen when they start working on I81.
