Enough is enough people. Our kids are gonna get a better school experience with better teachers. I support the superintendent, I have no connection with the school. Let the man do his job. His home life is no ones business!

Those in authority who make decisions effecting our children should always be under scrutiny when it comes to their public and private life. If you don't want to be under the microscope then they shouldn't choose a profession that will constantly monitor them.

You people need to worry about your own problems. He's not abusing our children. Watch test scores keep raising. Everyone has issues but it's easier to harass someone else then fix your own. Drop it...

There are more important things than test scores ...our children deserve leaders with morals...not just those who throw parades for themselves

Well said. Any supporters of Powell are either idiotic or getting something from him.

It seems to me the ones on here against him have a very vindictive behavior. I'm neither for or against him. I think we all need more information as to what happened, and if it affects his responsibility as superintendent.
The ones on here jumping to conclusions, calling everyone names that do not agree with them, and making malicious comments are the ones who need to worry about their influence on their children.

Test scores are a window into a few hours. My kids haven't learned jack this year.

Mary Lou, do you think Powell is a saint? Do you think he is a positive influence among children and staff?

First I would need to know your definition of Saint. He does not fit my definition of a Saint, and neither will anyone else they would get to fill that position.
I will wait until all the facts come out before I make a judgement to if he is the right man for the job, but I will tell you his record thus far shows him to be.
If his wife had a reverse reaction to medication and made a bad decision, how could that be his fault, and how would that bare any kind of reaction like there has been on here? The only thing we have to go on right now, is her statement that came out in the Advocate. If it is true, it would not be his or her fault in any way, but the fault of the medication.
Reading the comments on here, I do not think some of you want the truth. I think your vindictiveness has taken over, and nothing will change your mind.

I'd like the board to explain how he gives a person with out a degree a PR title , and that kind of salary . Can anyone explain this .

Very interesting post. Speaking of the truth, how would you know whether or not her "reverse reaction to medication" is a truth?
That is NOT a statement that was used in the Advocate story.
Where did you get that bit of info since it wasn't in the Advocate, and how can we know it is true?
Also, your statement that the only information we have to go on is her story in the Advocate is innaccurate. We have the EPO, which the Advocate went and picked up a copy before doing the story, and details in the story that don't add up.
The EPO is NOT the only document that she signed when she filled out her SWORN statement.......
That story in the Advocate did them more harm than good. The fact that the Chairman violated Parliamentary Procedures by saying it was a closed session and no one could speak, then allowed ONE side to speak, including speakers from Frankfurt as I understand it, then adjourned the meeting quickly without permitting people on the other side to speak says a LOT about the situation.
Also the direction to the school attorney to request the investigating agencies to expedite the investigations indicates a wish to make it go away ASAP.
There was only ONE side permitted to speak for a reason. Trying to expedite everything leaves the possibility that something doesn't get investigated fully. Which always leaves lingering questions.
The best course of action is a full, open investigation.
Think about this for a moment. If Mrs. Powell's statement was intended to give credibility to her assertion that she "made up" the whole thing, then it would be imperative that she were thoroughly honest in that statement. THOROUGHLY honest.
It would HAVE to be known and understood that her statement would be scrutinized.
There is a problem in her statement. I am not the only one who noticed it, either. Look at the story again, and see if it jumps out at you. It is very revealing. It creates more problems than it solves.
Why is it you have asked me questions and I have given you honest answers, but when I asked you if you thought Bruce Walters would have taken it upon himself to pass out copies of a recanted EPO, if his contract would not have been terminated, you looked over it like I had never asked, and proceeded to ask me more questions?

The reason why they hired the man was because out of all 4 of the candidates, the majority of the board did not want Phil Rison. That is the bottom line. Sure his numbers look good. Sure he could take the state test numbers and increase it. But the ACT test did not budge much. They are teaching the test and not teaching the meaning of the concepts. It will do the students more harm than good when they go to college.

He has let go some good non-tenure teachers. He has taken some of the lousy tenure teachers and created jobs for them or moved them around. He has replaced the "old" buddy system with his "new" buddy system. His AD was a failure so he is now the assistant principal and brought back Bart to do that job. The teacher morale is horrible. Non-tenure teachers are stressing out. This guy will make it where teachers can not become tenure so he can control them. The "Empowerment" he has been preaching is one of the biggest crocks I have ever heard.

Just because the board did not want Phil Rison, has nothing to do with hiring Powell. They could have hired anybody they wanted, they are paying a large enough salary to get any superintendent in the state, they chose Powell, and for you to act like he was forced on them is ludicrous. His numbers look good, because they are good, bottom line. The ACT scores went up also, all test scores went up.
As far as letting teachers go, everyone exept the teachers he let go, think that was a good move. It doesn't matter who replaces them, some of you will try to find fault in them. So, all in all you will have more people disagree with you, than will agree.

Mary Lou quit drinking the Powell Kool-Aid. Everyone thinks letting the teachers go was a good move? You are in the LAND OF OZ. You might be talking to like 2 people. And you have no clue about the board not wanting Phil. Let me tell you. It was gridlocked 2 against 2. Get your facts straight.

You are just being vindictive because things didn't go your way. The fairest way to do anything is to vote on it. Just because the vote did not go your way, you think everyone else is wrong and you are right.
It sounds like you may have a personal vendetta with some of these people. There were very good reasons every one of those teachers were let go, and there were very good reasons other contracts were not renewed. The board and the superintendent have voted and made their final decesions on these matters, you need to learn to live with those decisions, and move on. You are spending way to much time trying to change the past.
The school system has moved pass those things, and so have most others, it's time you do the same. It's plain to see they made the correct decisions.
