Parade Taser use gets 2 officers fired

Two police officers who shocked a 76-year-old man with a Taser as he was driving a tractor in a town parade have been fired.

Whether driving a car or tractor you need to follow the police directing traffic.The fact that the tractor rear-ended the police suv shoes the old man was being uncooperative.If the driver had been a young man no one would say anything but just b/c your old doesn`t mean you can do what you want without the possibility of being tasered.The officers should appeal & get their jobs back.

Bottom line he disobeyed the commands and then led police in a pursuit. Tasing the ind was appropriat ebut they did not need to do it 5 times so yes i think the officers were being excessive. Termination of their employment may ahve been appropriate if the officers have had problems in the past with use of force as it would show a pattern of excessive force and would eventually leads to someones un needed death or major law suits which can be exspensive.

why would police carry the tasers if they aren't allowed to use them' You obviously have a problem with authority. The use of the tasers are authorized but not in the manner that these officers used them. Get over it they have them and they will use them.

Doesn't mater if they did or not. Disobeying a lawful order of a peace officer who is directing traffic is a criminal offense. There may have been other circumstances that determined the officer directing him in the direction he did.

Obviously, the cops and their faithful supporters all think that these 2 cops did nothing wrong.

But, the cold hard facts are the citizens of Glenrock agreed by majority that the cops acted inappropriately. And, the cops work for the citizens. The citizens decide how they expect their lawmen to behave. And, in this case most people had a real problem with the cops tazoring a 76 year old man riding a tractor in the annual parade. I think that the citizens are right on target with their viewpoint. Cops need to use common sense. They do not need to view every single person as public enemy number one.

These two cops overeacted to a minor incident. Instead of keeping peace and defusing a situation, they escalated it when they put their egos in front of their common sense.

Take away their guns and badges for good; give each one of them 5 seperate blasts from a tazor; and then help one of them get a job at McDonalds and the other one get a job at Burger King. And then, call the case closed.

In the words of our great President "the cops acted stupidly".

nobody ever said our president was that bright. and i see you are not either. if the citizens have the right to dictate wholey how the police do their jobs then it is clear that the police department is corrupt. this is america not a drug cartel run third world nation. CASE CLOSED

The citizens should have the right to dictate how the cops do their jobs. That is far better than the system that is in place currently. In the current system, any potential police wrong doing or illegal activety is investigated by the police themselves. And, typically it is the same police department that the cop in question works for. So, obviously, it is a gross conflict of interest from day one. From there, the DA can get involved; but in actuality this rarely happens. After all, the DA and the cops are on the same side of the law anyway.

And, even if a couple of cop's do wind up with their sorry blue azzes in trouble and they get canned; the police union just appeals the decision and the cop's get their jobs back anyway. So, typically they answer to no one.

So, the current system works great, if you happen to be a cop. But, if you are a citizen and you actually pay attention to what the cops are getting away with throughout the US; the current system is a shame. It is nothing but smoke and mirrors in a feeble attempt to make the citizens feel that the police are effectively policing their own.
