You know, I have listened to people say negative things about this newspaper in the past and I'll be the first to admit it seldom contains any real news. But it's the only local paper we have and I have faithfully picked it up when I stop for gas and such. I have even given subscriptions to the paper to family members each Christmas since 1971 when I moved back to the area with my husband. But never again....

A newspaper should report the news and local happenings in the community, It should NOT be focused entirely on manipulating political contests. For Example, In the past few weeks the paper has suddenly been full of Pics and articles attempting to put a currently elected official in the spotlight with stories that are hardly newsworthy. For example the disturbance at the prison last week turned out to be minor compared to the gossip that was circulating. We waited for the Enterprise to report the facts in its next edition, but lo and behold the newspaper came out and was filled with what I would describe as gross exaggerations and more drama, in what appeared to be an obvious effort to give the official a big pat on the back for something he wasnt even involved with, I remember reading " UPRISING AT THE PRISON" "(Elected official) said this and that on his facebook page", "(Elected official) is in the Brotherhood", Blah, blah, Blah, but as far any professional journalism or bringing us any real facts, there were none.

Well all that bologna is fine but we did want to cut out and frame what we were all sure would be the front page photo of our dear friend's "Ribbon Cutting" at her Grand Opening in Lumber City so we could present it to her as a keepsake. I mean we always see these ribbon cutting ceremony photos on the front page and in color right? We like to have those framed and given to the good people who have decided to take a chance and invest in our communities, Well not this time. When I inquired as to why the "Cutting of the Ribbon" picture was not used on the front page as they usually are, I was told,in a whisper, the picture wasn't used because it contained a young man whom the newspaper staff thought was going to eventually run for office against this certain elected official.

For this reason, our dear friend's had their ribbon cutting picture buried in the back of the paper in black and white. That's really professional Mr Editor, a real class act Ms Staff Writer. Didnt I read somewhere you were journalists?

Not to worry, it's just a matter of time before this "elected offical" will no longer be seen in the "FAMOUS NEWSPAPER- THE TELFAIR ENTERPRISE." There won't be any reason for him to be in there. Hope he has enjoyed his stay, don't want him to go away mad, just want him to go away, and he will. Have faith, it will happen. He has lost the "power." They need to close the doors to the Enterprise office and seek occupation elsewhere, there are plenty of folks looking to hire brown nosers/butt kissers. It doesn't really matter about the picture being placed where it was, you couldn't see it anyways.. I thought these people were professionals, the info, the content, the pics, the unwise choices that are published are so amateur. They even go around patting themselves on the back - SAD. What it all boils down to is someone with "a name" and they are full of themselves and don't have a clue how to serve the public. Ditto.....

It looks as if Johnny O Smith has somehow gotten controlling interest in the Enterprise recently.

Is this true, or is their editorial staff only huge fans of his? Maybe they will have him working with them full time after the next election, I'm sure he would be more useful to their paper than he is to the taxpayers. Maybe they will let him start up a "Funnies" section, mirrored after his own misadventures..... stay tuned

Guys please......if you have absolutely no newsworthy articles to print, maybe you should just skip a week instead of printing a paperload of blah blah blah and hoping to scam us for the 75 cents. Damn, i mean , Let's save the trees or something, I thought the over abundance of those ridiculous Johnny Smith comic strip articles were sickening enough, until i saw this weeks edition. OK I'm gonna yell "uncle!" already, "I give up!", "Mercy Mr Richardson!". OK, please tickle our funny bones with those Johnny Smith advertisements again. At least they gave us something to joke about. Of course there is this one guy here in town who ALWAYS looks forward to the next delivery of your papers, it's the guy who runs the local fish market.

Well let me tell you all that we had the entire Johnny Smith clan come in late to our United Methodist Church service this past sunday morning. Sat right up front too! Have they suddenly become Methodist now? Have they split with the Church of God? Or do they think we are going to be of help to them politically? Mr Sheriff, We come to church to worship our lord, and we pray that our community will survive these last few months of your family's neglect. I love all of you as my brothers and sisters in Christ, but most of our members think its time for you and your sister to move on. Don't you see the writing on the walls? Every place we visit someone is voicing their disgust with your performance as Sheriff, and frankly we have to agree with them. My goodness, I'm embarrassed for you, and I wish someone would tell you the truth. But I guess none of us wish to hurt your feelings. We will continue to keep you in our prayers all the same. You are welcome to come back to UMC anytime, just be sincere.

Good gracious me. Somebody ruffled the church lady's feathers. No matter his motive, he still heard the Word of God. And probably received more silent prayers than he had in a long time. One of them probably being "i pray he makes it out of my church before it falls down around us."

Oh before i forget. This is the supposed to be about the Enterprise on this page. Does our small town paper report on everything? No. But what is written on is written well. It's hard to find stories when everyone does the same ole thing day in and day out. Get up, go to work, go home, eat dinner, go to bed...repeat endlessly. Not even the criminals change. The same one show up again and again.... oh by the way...where had the police beat gone to?

Let me begin by saying that I do not know enough about Sheriff Smith or his family to have an opinion. But I do have an opinion about folks, and most especially church going Christians, who just flat out lie or fabricate a story with partial truths. Sheriff Smith was in that church on Sunday, by himself, and sat on the next to the back row; he was a little late arriving. This world has enough problems and issues without making up info to stir people up; if you are going to report something, let's at least tell the facts as they are. The rest of the article is up to the writer's opinion. Makes me wonder how much we look and act like disciples of Christ when we do this!!!!

Well I was there too so i suppose we were all seeing visions. Please forgive us bigbertha28 we should have kept quiet about the big bossman. Oh and if it were true that you are so detached from the smith family, knowing so little about them, i wonder if you know if his entourage was his relatives or not?? Anyway please don't reply to my post as it's all a waste of time for me. Also please note this topic is for comments related to the enterprise....... but of course one could argue J smith and the enterprise are one in the same......tootle lou!

Deacon's Wife: Please don't say that most of the members of UMC don't support the Smith's..How do you know this? If you have taken a poll, my family hasn't been asked and we are all members of UMC. It doesn't matter to me if you support hum or not, but the last thing our church needs to do is criticize visitors when we are I the she we are in. And by the way, the Methodist church does not have Deacons.

I was in church on this day also. I saw J Smith come in alone and sit in the back of the church.
Deacon's Wife, seems like you are trying to start rumors. I think you can ask anyone that was there and they will tell you the same he was there alone and in the back. No family members were with him. Don't know what you are trying to do but keep the UMC out of your drama. If you were right about your comments, you would know that some of his family attended the FBC on this day. At least they were in church.
