I know through time many citizens of the county of Telfair have been locked up or know individuals who have been locked up in the county jail. It has become common knowledge on the street and around our small community how corrupt our county is and has become. It only seems to be growing worse. Dealing with the jail is like dealing with a hord of canatonic people. These people seem to care very little for any plight of the inmate incarcerated there. They do not care if they speak to their families. They do not care if they see their families, or even if their families know when they are transferrred to another county. The jail like the courthouse is in need of remoldling and new systems put in place to keep the communication open to those that are bound in its walls. Visitation is a joke due to the openness of the area. Anyone and everyone can over hear your conversation and there is nothing kept private. I have experienced the lack of caring within the department first hand, and wonder what others have experienced. I guess, in retrospect like every other issue our county has the people who live hear feel that their complaints are falling on deaf ears, which is probally about the extent of it.

make better choices? are you serious?? i was arrested and treated like compete shit for drinking and WALKING not driving home. now sorry but being 21 and in college, you go downtown, i was screamed at thrown in a car and trhwon in a jail cell....only to be told i was not allowed water, to call my family, etc.
dont say "make better choices" because cops just suck and are on a high horse and act like they are completely above everyone else. yes that is quite a generalization, i realize there are exceptions but NOT MANY

Telfair County sounds a lot like Jeff Davis County and they need to be investigated as well. Crooks and Corruption! Sounds like the title of a great new television series! I'm sure we would have no shortage of interesting story lines! lol

While we're at it, how does the post you're referring to make Telfair sound like Jeff Davis? There's no problems with the detention center in Jeff Davis and no mention of corruption in Telfair in the post you quoted. Completely unrelated issues, no similarities.

The conditions at the jail and whether or not they had valid reasons to put you there are two totally different issues. I'm sorry, but I don't see anything inhumane about inmate conversations with family members being conducted out in the open and not being private. Looking at the other necessities in Telfair county that need addressing (a hospital, textbooks, teen programs geared towards keeping people out of jail to begin with, the rampant drug problem in this county, massive low income/poor job opportunties here) I'm going to put an expensive revamp of inmate communications low on the totem pole of priorities for the county.

If your rights were violated, you should have filed a Law suite, and then followed it up ! The one thing these people understand is when you take their money ! That's when they take action to change their policies ! A lot of people have been wronged by some of these THUG Police, and just let it slide . If the citizens don't stand up to them, it will only get worse ! Their definitely needs to be a change in the way they enforce the Laws ! Also, they need to treat everyone the same, and stop picking and choosing who to prosecute ! Gene Johnson would be a good choice for Sheriff ! I believe he would treat everyone with respect . They should clean out the Police department and start over with a whole new force ! This is the most corrupt dept. I've seen in McRae's History ! I think they should put another retired State Trooper in charge of the Police Dept ; like Ladson . He was a good Police Chief ! Any change would have to be better than what they have now ! I saw where they were giving a Black Police officer a service award, they should have given her a PINK SLIP and a free ride out of town ! You don't give out rewards to people who have sat back and let your community deteriorate to the point McRae has ! I guess this is more Political correctness ! Go figure !

you are so right. they all need a pink slip and a ride outa town. how can we make this happen? we have children growing up in town and when the law enforcement rides thru certain areas of town they get out of their cars and move their guns to the other side to let the scum bags know there is going to be a drug bust. how can we solve this problem??????

People would you listen to your selves.Who is the first person you call when someone violates your rights and is hurting you, family or property, but then you do what you know is wrong and get caught you want to point fingers and discriminate against our officers.I am so sick of hearing what telfair has done to you.Why dont you look at what the citizens of Telfair has done to make Telfair this way.No I am not an Officer just a another human being who lives in Mcrae and sees hands on everyday what is going on.They are human just like the rest of us but they took an extra step and took An Oath to serve and Protect all of us,Only to be spit on, hit ,verbally and physically abused and threatened.I ask you if this happen to you who would you call I will answer that 911.or better yet how about those of you who have their direct numbers and call them 24/7 but then want to talk crap when you dont need them.WAKE UP PEOPLE IF ARE ARRESTED THERE WAS A REASON AND YOU DONT GET A RIDE TO THE AMUSEMENT PARK.YOU WANT TO CHANGE TELFAIR THEN HELP DONT BITCH AND SIT BACK AND DO NOTHING.

When on a Jury i would always believe the Police, but not in McRae ! I also wouldn't believe the Judge or the Prosecuting Attorney ! When you have a click in Government, they can't be trusted to do the right thing !

Maybe you should reconsider your decision since Law suites can be a lot more expensive !

What part of the Constitution don't you understand ? Is it being innocent until guilty in a court of law ? Why does Law enforcement think they have a right to punish a person with their own measure of justice before they are convicted in a court of law ? Judging from your comment, i don't think you understand what goes on in the telfair county jail ! Just because a person is arrested and charged with a crime doesn't mean they are guilty . They should be treated with respect and given every opportunity to prove their innocence ! Any law enforcement officer who passes judgement on a prisoner before they are convicted by a jury or a judge should not be allowed to wear the badge !
