Its a shame you can have land paid in full for 30+ years and can still loose it for 2 years taxes.. There should be a cut-off point at some time. Like ten or 15 years as long as it is under one owner. If something belongs to you and is paid for it is stupid it can be taken. This itself creates problems with people in the right position to take it and make a profit.

you are so right, it is a big shame. we have owned our land for 43 years and never once late with our taxes untill last year 2009, and only part of the taxes was late a couple of months and (tc) bullard along with pam told us if we didn't get that last 200.00 to them soon we would loose all our land. did anyone read the paper where (tc) bullard wrote "none of the trailers were worth the taxes owed on them"...how sad is that! these trailers are homes and bullard may not live in one but he does not have the right to spit on them. how soon he forgets who put him in office. thats right, more little people out here than big shots. hmmmm i think we need to clean OUT our tax offices.

well they always been due as a christmas present ...have owned land here thirty years...and its always been the same....bullard didnt do that.....maybe you are just one that gets pissed at whoever makes you pay your taxes.....if everybody pays then thats fair..whats not fair is the high values and high millage rate....Telfair is very high.....we need to cut the budget/consolidate services and not have so many personnell namelt deputies sitting around the jail playing facebook and trying to justify their existence by chasing and following our teenagers around trying to raise revenue.....That would make then ignorant police wannabees.....

Motor jaws, I am sorry to hear that like everyone else you have fallen on difficult times and are unable to come up with a substantial amount of money at one time right at Christmas. All I can say is join the crowd. The first bill I received after losing the exeption was a shocker too. But the next year I was prepared because I budgeted in. Saving so much per month. And i'd be grateful they let you divid your payment. As for the balance being a couple months late, try that with the light company and see what you get. A very dark and hot house. Also Mr. Bullard was not speaking badly of mobile homes. He was simply stating the fact that the older a manufactured home is the less it is worth in money. He didn't mean it isn't valuable to the person who calls it home. Our homes, no matter what they are, grow in value to us every year. It's home. We raise our families there and build our memories. He is also stating that the land values were driven up in our county through sales to outsiders, who had cash and were willing to pay WAY too much, the last several years. As for cleaning out the tax office as someone else suggested, it would be a horrible idea. Taxes are being collected correctly, on time, and according to state law. Get over it. Imaging what financial shape the county would be in if money was not being collected properly as in our county's past.

The problem with out taxes is not just the people that dont think they have to pay..its the current sheriff increasing his budget app i million a year since he has taken office....ask a commissioner about that budget running away with them...Our sheriff spends money like there is no tomorrow....when you consider that he never paid the taxes on the house that he burned that makes it even worse...maybe thats why he burned it to keep from paying the taxes...?????? Lets get rid of the spendthrift Sheriff we have.....we cannot afford him or the rest of his family anymore....

Mr bullard is trying to have everyone pay the property taxes owed.......and be fair to everyone....if you have a problem with the taxes examine the values and millage rates we have one of the highest values and millage rates around.....lets do something about that for a change....

lets have the local splost just for rolling back property taxes instead of our commissioners and local governing authorities go on spending orgies with our monies....we need relief....look at all the houses for sale around here...people are leaving due to taxes being too high...or trying to sell at inflated priced that teh county says they are worth.....and it just aint happening......so we have a problem....and raising taxes, assessments and millage rates will not fix that they have to be substantially cut.....let the non-propeerty owners help pay to run the county.....

The only way to do that is sales tax for rolling back property tax......let everyone share the "pain".....or expense of running the local governments and then they might pay attention to whats being done with those dollars...the non property owners dont give a rat's ass now what anything costs they dont have to pay for it.....!!!!! Sherriff Johnny Smith and his family are destroying our county. We can not morally nor monetarily afford 4 more years of the Smith Gang. I support Mr. Bullard in collecting all Taxes due. That is the job he was elected to do.

Them Commissioners need to be voted out of office. At least they can't have but two terms but they will put some more crook's in the seat when they are gone.. This is the crooked county I know of when it comes to politics..

Like I heard on the radio this morning.......Raising taxes is not the issue. We need to examine the spending of the government.... This statement applies to government at ALL levels. We need to trim spending. Period. I know people on the police force. They need certain equipment..vests, cuffs, working vehicles, but too much is being spent within law enforcement that is not accounted for. No matter how many we put on the force, it is not going to improve life in this county until something is done about the way it is run and the leadership they are provided. Lead by example. Ok..sorry got off on the wrong topic. Vote new people in with the necessary education to balance the budget and have the balls to stand up to those who opose common sense.
thats exactly right

we should vote new people in with the necessary education , skills and common sense to balance a budget and have the balls to stand up to the people that oppose keeping the fiscal business in order.....and it starts with the leadership of the department....from the top down...You are exactly right about that.....until we do that ...we are gonna have clowns foolishly wasting our hard earned tax dollars .....!!!!!

Apparently The tax commissioners office and the clerks office and probate judges office is the main ones that are operating efficiently and like they should be..........and you can quote Big Bubba on that.......!!!

Well that two term limit guarantees that you will get an official that plans to spend, spend spend to make his district happy..he only gets two terms to do that....otherwise he would be trying to be conservative with the tax monies and look like a smart business man.....instead all we get is "SPENDERS".......and HIGHER TAXES...

complainers have ever considered that we are the only county in the state with a two term limit....????? and we are also the county with the most problems around...no growth, high taxes, drug's, unemployment, welfare, poverty, low property values, and people electing people that cannot manage their own personal finances and don't own real property in the county......Maybe this is all connected.....????? Lets have a splost sales tax to roll back property taxes.....and let the travelers passing through and the non property owners help pay for stuff also.......

Most property owners support sales tax increases to shift the tax burden to the non-property owners.I say "HELL NO TO ALL TAX INCREASES"I don't care if they have to put a pad-lock on the court house!! They need to cut their spending to give tax payers a tax cut.Let's don't put property owners against non-property owners, the one's running things love us fighting against each other so they can tax us ALL to death.Wanting to cut one tax to raise another is not a solution!!
