Has anyone noticed Caney Fork Electric is ripping people off with charging a $3.95 convenience fee for paying online? How about the poor people that can't get to the office???? Shame on you Caney Fork Electric!

I got my bill on the 10th that was due on the 7th. So I called them on the 10th to ask for an extension until Friday and was told that they would this one time, but next month if it is not paid by the 7th they will disconnect on the 8th. In 5yrs I have never been late. However I estimate what to pay because I never get my bill before it is due. What the hell.

Well, I got a response to my email. Basically, members are paying to be billed when they pay their bill by debit or credit card. This is what they had to say:

Caney Fork Electric doesn't have a credit card agreement with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express. We have contracted with a third party credit/debit card processor.(HP Enterprises Services) The arrangement is simple. HP Enterprises maintains the internet link and a 1-800 phone line where Caney Fork Electric members can go to or call to make credit/debit card payments. HP collects the credit/debit card payments and pays the credit card company their fee. HP provides email notification of payments, daily and monthly reports, along with batch files for us to post daily payments, And, most importantly, HP deposits your payment into our bank account. For this service, you agree to pay HP Enterprises a convenience fee of $3.95. There several good reasons that the Board and Management of Caney Fork Electric decided to accept credit/debit card payments this way.

Should this not be a convenience for their customers that are not able or can't make it to the office? I have never had to pay to pay, until now.

Just another in a long line of fees that is passed on down to the customer.I wonder what kind of kick backs Caney Fork recieves from the third party credit card processor....

I believe the also have meters that are not adjusted properly. I had a new meter installed a couple of years ago and my bill doubled. My bill was around $90.00 in the winter because I heat with wood. It went to almost $300.00. I have complained several times without any avail. They (along with Ben Lomand) have a monopoly on their service and their way of justifying this is we will either pay their price or do without. Their meter men are even too D@_N lazy to get out of the trucks and read the meters right. I know the usage rate has went up, but not by 300 percent. I feel there are many people throughout the counties that Caney Fork supplies that feels the same way and unless we unite and get something done about it, they will keep increasing at will.

All you have to do is sign up with each utility and have all your utility charges taken out of your checking account. No extra charges, no checks to write, no postage, no worry about going to utility to pay. They will send bill as usual stating how much they will hold out and on what day. The bills usually state "paid by bank draft." So easy.......and free.

How does Ben Lomand have a monopoly? You could go to Frontier, Charter, or Verizon just to name a few. With Caney Fork you do not have another option. With Telephone you have several other options.

I went to my daughters house and cut back a huge bush that was covering the meter and half the house. There was no way the meter reader was reading that meter. Caney Fort has control, there is nothing anyone can do because they know everyone has to have electricity. I live in Fl and my bill has never gone over $110.00...even in the hotest part of the yr. and I have a decent size house. CFE is just giving everyone the big weenie!

Well, it will be interesting to see if my daughters light bill goes up since I have had such a fit over the convenience fee.
Guess I will throw another fit, but will still have to pay. LOL

As for a monopoly..... I will elaborate. Where
I live there is no charter or anything else. Ben Lomand and Caney Fork is it unless you want a satellite dish. I'll agree with the big weenie statement and they ain't even putting any mustard on it if you know what I mean.

One problem with Caney Fork and Ben Lomand is they hire their kin folks that are not qualified. I personally think they are a bunch of idiots. Especially joe hamby. I think he has a degree in horticulture and is in charge of the internet services.

so how do they read the meters b/c I am most of the day and have never seen any one come to my house and read my meter. I have electric heat and one month I hardly used it and my bill was higher than the other months. I really think sometimes they just guess.

Good question....How do they read the meters? I have been laid off from work a few times during the past couple of years and rather than run the roads I just stayed close to home.I have never seen anyone come around my house to read a meter....
