Bar poll slams Sandoval

Collin County, like the rest of Texas, elects its judges. The courts these judges preside over are a part of government few of us get to see, and even fewer know how to choose who to vote for.

This year only one judge is facing primary opposition. Judge Charles Sandoval of the 380th District court is being challenged by McKinney attorney Suzanne Wooten.

Primary races for judges can be interesting. The smaller turnout in a primary makes it possible for a relatively small group to exert a large influence over the outcome of a judicial election.

In Collin County one of the most influential groups is the Bar Association. The lawyers of the local Bar practice their trade in front of elected judges every day - and they form an opinion. Every 2 years, the local bar surveys its members in an attempt to rate every sitting judge.

How highly is Judge Sandoval rated by those lawyers who work in his court? Not very high.

This year, Sandoval received the overall lowest rating of any local judge. If this Bar Poll is any indication, the judge will soon need to find another line of work. However, the Bar Poll is not an infallible indicator of re-electability. A good example of the poll missing its mark would be the 2005 primary in which 2 judges (John Barry and Jerry Lewis) won re-election despite dismal Bar Poll ratings.

The Bar Survey asked a series of questions to which the respondents would rate the judges as "Excellent", "Acceptable" or "Needs Improvement".

One key question asked, "Is this judge impartial?" Only 12% of the lawyers rated Sandoval as "Excellent", while 46% believe he "Needs Improvement". Judge Dan Wilson was rated the highest, with 78% rating him as "Excellent".

In "How would you describe this judge's overall performance?" Sandoval again earned the lowest "Excellent" rating at only 12%. Judge Henderson was highest ranked at 80% "Excellent".

Henderson may be a lot better than Sandoval and I appreciate you pointing out these opinion rankings.

However, Curt Henderson is also the judge who gives Police a "don't ask don't tell" order regarding the use of SWAT teams. In other words "do whatever you like - don't bother me with the details". A judge is there to use oversight and judgment in deciding warrant service, not rubber stamp or give standing orders to “do what you want”.

He should use judgment in reviewing Rambo police's plans to execute those warrants - to include whether military style attacks are justified.

Curt Henderson, like Pontius Pilot, washes his hands of the whole thing. Several Collin County residents have been unnecessarily shot by police in absurd abuses of police power. All the warrants were signed by Curt Henderson. Vote him out.

You almost have to say anyone who has been a politician in Collin County for five or more years is dishonest or they wouldn't stay in office.

It is a corrupt "good ol' boys" system in which they protect each other and get rid of those who don't play along. However, Sandoval is by far the worst. The poll shows it. He is doing very bad things to our families for his friends and getting away with it.

And for the first time in the life, this staunch Republican is voting DEMOCRATIC, I am SO FED UP with the cronyism and good ole boy system. ANYTHING is better than what we have right now.

We need change and honest people in office.

For example, when exactly will MPAC ever brak even, nuch less make a profit. And you can't even drive down half the city roads - because they don't exist. And the pay off to Larry Robinson? Don't get me started. Throw these bums out.

To Republican 2:

I understand why you feel that way since the Republican party leaders in Collin County have gotten so dishonest. However, they got that way because most people in Collin County vote the straight Republican ticket and the politicians have long since come to believe they can do whatever they want because the voters are stupid sheep.

However, the current 380th district judge is unusually dishonest and dangerous and he needs to go. There is a reason he is the only district judge to get an opponent. Suzanne Wooten is putting her career on the line by opposing the 380th district judge. We need to support her.

Suzanne will make an awsome Judge! However, everyone has their down falls. Sandoval is not a bad person or individual, and we need to make that clear. He is comfortable in his position. But at the same time, we do need a change and a change for the better. Hopefully grudges won't be held against others.

Does Suzanne Wooten have a website? I had the unfortunate luck to draw Sandoval in my divorce. I would like to see someone more fair in the position.

Not yet to my knowledge but you can make donations to the address above and convince your neighbors to put up yard signs which are also available at the address mentioned above.I think the Collin County Bar Association 2007 poll says it all. People really respond to the poll because when one reads it, it is obvious that there is something wrong with that judge

Even though some of you think that the Bar Poll says it all, how many of those people a. live in Collin County, b. are really going to publically make it Known that they are voting for Suzanne for fear of punishment and or being on Sandoval's sh$% list. Not many. Besides, it isn't a matter of what people say, it all has to be done at the voting boothe

This Judge Sandoval needs to be booted out of the county! I have seen this moron in action for 10 years now and I must say that he likes to aid and abet DEAD-BEAT Parents.

My wife has been trying to collect over $30,000.00 in back child support from the 380 District Court and Sandoval keeps letting the dead-beat father go.

I think that we need to get the local media involved with investigating this guy's record and his past dockets. After reading these posts I can see that we are not the only ones who think that this clown needs to go.

He has done a GREAT DIS-SERVICE to our County and Tax Payers. Let's get him out of here!
