Looking at the DUI list in the Times Standard Sunday I was dismayed at the number of young adults on the list. When I was 21 years old I did what many young people do today. I drove home drunk. BUT, if the police stopped you they would allow you to walk home or call someone to pick you up or if they knew you they would give you a ride home. Today all of that has changed and for the good. There is NO forgiveness. You get caught and you go to jail. As parents we need to assure our children that drinking and driving is dangerous especially when you get caught. I instructed my kids that if they have been drinking and they need to get home they will call me first. It has happened four times. I am thankful they listened. Parents have to teach their children that drinking and driving is very dangerous. So how come we don't?
I also told mine the same and lucky me neither drank or did drugs. But they ran around with other kids that did and I more than once would pick them up.

One of the reasons that many parents don't teach their kids the stupidity of DUI is due to the fact the parents are often doing the same thing.
That and they are in denial and little Johnny or Jane are such sweet, never in trouble kids.
Then there are those who say something like, "Oh they're just doing what their friends do but they always come home. They're good kids just having some fun", I have heard this crap personally, dumb.

it's also hard for the offenders to learn a real lesson when they are caught as they will get off with a fine/community service, typical wrist slap.
They should take the cars away, take their license for 6/12 months and real jail time.
Then publicize it on the news and in the schools.
I think that would at the least stop a large majority of the young kids from doing the same thing.
Maybe?
