i think we need a night club in mckenzie.we have all kinds of places to get food food and more food.people wonder why everyone is fat.there is nothing else to do in mckenzie.that is why it would be good to have one.not just for regular people like myself but then students at bethle dont have to go out of town to have fun and dance.

Well, I have to give credit. It's the thought that counts, but it will never happen. Or at least not in McKenzie.

One - night clubs are big in selling one particular item. Alcohol. Therefore you have to be a minimum age of 21. That rules out a big portion of college aged students.

Two - with the recent passing of the packaged liquor law, and the negative commentary from many of the religious folks, you can bet it will be met with fierce opposition if it was to be built inside city limits.

Three - McKenzie currently prohibits the sale of alcohol by the drink.

Four - because alcohol can't be served, I highly doubt it would be a successful business venture since you can't sell your money making product. Unless it were to be built outside city limits.

Five - if you market it as a night club geared towards the youth population with dancing and music, it will draw a large portion of underagers who are clever enough to pass themselves off as 21+, and now you're contributing to underage drinking, which will get you in huge legal trouble.

Some clubs do allow 18+ people in and still serve alcohol, but because of the hassle involved keeping the underage and legals separated, many have moved to 21+ only.

When you market to the 21+ only crowd in this area of West Tennessee, you lose the market geared towards the youth (18-20 aged), and it becomes nothing but a bar. The two we had out towards Trezvant have closed.

Six - night clubs also have a stereotypical view as being a haven for partiers engaging in drug use, too.

well it is good that you have that point of view.nowthe two bars intrezvant where trahsy and let underaged people drink.and sorry but grown people need a place to go to get away from the kids.all mckenzie has is the v.f.w. and the whole thing about it is if it was to happen who cares where if i have to drive 5 miles to go to something besides eat i dont mind.better than a 15 or 20 mile drive. i am sure there are many solutions to the problom.

Underage entry into clubs is easy to stop. We use ID scanners. They read the bar code on all state issued ID's. No problem.
