The last update of this story i that a neighbor saw 25-30 people/day go in and out of the house. It's sad that this murder likely happened because of illegal activity, especially with a child in the house.

Isaiah Long, 61, who lives nearby, said he heard a woman screaming just before 6 a.m.

“I heard someone saying,‘Don't kill me, don't kill me,'” Long said.“I heard the shots.”

Long said he's noticed 25 to 30 people coming and going from the house on a daily basis. He moved back to McKeesport in 2009 after living in California, and said he's upset with crime in the city.

“All day long, there are cars everywhere,” Long said.“I thought California was bad. California can't touch McKeesport.”

Leggett's mother, Deborah Leggett, called on McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko to take action to reduce the violence in the city. Cherepko did not immediately return a message seeking comment. There have been five homicides in McKeesport this year, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

“What is the mayor doing?” Deborah Leggett, 48, of McKeesport, said.“This is a young man killed yet again in McKeesport.”

My family and I cannot find words to express our sorrow and sympathy to his relatives, friends, and family.

We pray and hope the authorities apprehend the guilty and that the surviving young lady has the common sense and respect for the deceased to provide the clues and background necessary to clinch the investigation.

The poster implies the possibility of illegal activities. If true, where were the MPD and detectives on this one? The buck stops with the mayor who seems always be at the crime scene before the police chief.

This incident does not bode well with the mayor's theme of Respect and Love. How about a new theme called Law and Order and let the Chief of Police and his department do their job without the uninvited contributions by an immature ex-school teacher.

Family members said Cook leaves behind two young children, a 4-year-old girl and the couples 1-year-old son, Jayden, who is believed to have been at the home at the time of the shooting.
Who would try to hurt him? Hes not a bad dude. Our past is our past. Weve all been in trouble in our past, but were grown now. We have kids. I dont get it, Leggett said.
Some were emotional hearing of yet another shooting in McKeesport and that another young father was shot and killed.
This boy has a baby. And every summer, McKeesport is losing teenagers, 20-year-olds, a whole generation, Deborah Leggett said. And the mayor of McKeesport needs to step up or move out of office. Period. Point blank. We need to vote him out and get someone in office thats [going to] handle the killings in McKeesport. Im sick of it.

First off , sympathies & condolences to those families now grieving over this senseless ghetto-style crime . Secondly, with all due respect to our police officers - don't blame them - they simply follow orders according to Boro Hall.

Now I'm not saying our political hacks don't care about the crime rate here that makes Muck Sleazeport one of the highest crime boros in the state - BUT , when they are forced to NEED Welfare , Section 8 & state & gov't. monies to stay in office - they likely choose to look away to keep the cash flowing in that props them up.

Admit it - without Gov't. handouts the corrupt Democratic ghettos from Pissburg to Monongahela would be gone , wilderness again & we would all be better off with all those political prostitutes gone & far less taxes to pay.

That would be an awesome resolution! But from what I was told they caught the two "kids" b4 the friends did. And I do believe that the 9mm would have been the judge & jury in that case. But those kids never realized that this is not the end. The 6th floor in the alleghney county jail has basically turned into the jungle! They will be beaten and possibly raped as well. They have no way into the Arian nation, because they both have snitched on themselves. And it will be a long time till they get sentenced. I would really hope that they can purchase KY jelly in the commissary.

Was it worth killing a man because he owed you $100?
Was it worth making his kids fatherless children?
Was it worth it to be a "thug"
I don't even think 2pac himself would approve of there actions.
Now that they are in jail.... Most likely they will be feed to the wolves. They will look @ life or death sentence. But even so..... Is it justice? Or just US!

your sitting here begging for someone's death. bone in hand and mauling away like the animals you all are. does that make you any better then the shooter themselves? you should be grateful you get to wake up in the morning while this poor man died because he chose to rob the wrong people/person. both parties are guilty this is the world we live in, and as long as their are spectators willing to spread the news be it fact or fiction nothing will ever change. we are a society that feeds on grief and destruction. and this is another example of just that. go back to your meaningless lives, our world is too ass backwards for you people to think that this is so wrong.

When you screw with the bull you will get the horns.

My family and I sympathize with his family, relatives, in-laws, friends, and his friendly co-workers.

We pray and hope that the murder(s) is quickly apprehended, indicted, and convicted.

where are you getting your information? no one has been charged with the murder that ive heard of, and naming people and labeling them murderers is the police's job not yours. if these kids turn out to be innocent now their dead anyway because people like you choose to point fingers based on rumors not facts. you may want them beaten dead and raped, but how will you feel if that happens and they turn out to be two innocent guys that YOU pointed the finger at. I reported your post, and I will see it taken down.

This mother kills me! What a piece of trash! She got balls blaming the Mayor, or anyone else, for her sons murder! She is solely responsible! She was a complete failure as a mother - look at her police record! Her son's death is a direct result of her failed parenting - she raised a drug dealer - this shit happens when you associate with scum.

The mayor can be blamed for a lot of dubious or illegal actions, but the Versailles Avenue murder is not one of them.

The mother should go after the low hanging fruit, not some thing so ridiculous. The bogus $24 million MACM/City deal and the firing of the MACM superintendent for a start. The firing of the CD director and replacing her with a council person to eliminate a future mayoral opponent.

The discrepancies between the number of video slot registered by the Mayor's city for the mechanical device fee and the actual number of devices seized by the AG. Why the discrepancies Mayor?

The paying of workers at the Palisades under the table. The use of a city fire truck by a city fireman friend on duty to attend a hearing at the local judges office. The copper thieves at the MACM by relatives of his political friends. The monies stolen from workers' lockers at MACM.

You weren't see her saying anything positive. She has a personal problem with the Mayor and at the time if her kids murder, she's only thinking about blasting the Mayor in the media! McKeesport mother of the year, this one! This kid never had a chance with this old ho for his mother.

I saw the mother crying on TV. But the woman with the majority of air time who called out the mayor was identified as the mother of his best friend. Are you referring to the mother of the deceased, or the mother of the friend?

3 weeks before my 16th birthday..my father drove me around to local places to fill out applications for jobs...and then a week later made me call those places to see if theyreviewed my application yet. Meanwhile all my friends in highschool were dealing dope...they all drove before me...they all had a pocket full of money...where I had to wait 2 weeks for a crappy paycheck...I only had a few close friends who we were in the same classes for the most part.....and to this day 26 years later...we still live paycheck to paycheck for the most part ...we raise our families under the same as we were taught...and in this fast changing world we live in....everyone says its a sign of the times.....well here is my point..is like to say thank you dad for showing a work ethic to me like I never saw....the man never missed a day of work...thanks for passing the old ways on to me u will never disappoint you...I will pass the old ways along just as you did....2nd point my school was the worst till they shut it down..because it was the worst..If you take the time to teach your kids morales and the right way to do things..less of this would happen...Rip to those who were not taught the right way..and learned the hard way..but do know this...those of you did set a example for me..you proved that if you do the wrong thing tou are slowly killing yourself whether self inflicted abuse by drugs or alcohol, Inever wanted to be like tou and in the end ...failing health..die by the rope, or gun shot, tour a little reminder to keep doing what I was taught at home ...in a broken family...in a rough neighborhood
