build a new police station. build a new recreation center, buy a new fire truck. all nutty ideas that a town as financially strapped as glassport shouldn't even be considering at the present time.

the things that really should be done are:

knocking down the now dilapidated and copper stripped buildings on the main drag. the former clarene corner, the hub cap place, and the now famous "lowe's" building at ninth and ohio.

getting tough on the section 8 rentals and renters. glassport has more than its fair share of section 8. it needs to be stopped and scaled back.

cameras on every corner - monongahela and ohio from harrison down to broadway. this would have been a much more effective use of the wasted $250,000 grant money for the new police hideout. it would be something that actually protects the citizens rather than a new taj mahal building for the police to hide in.

elimination of boro waste as in unneeded boro employees. i can think of 3 right now.

a commitment to the taxpayers to spend tax monies wisely and efficiently.

Almost 99% of people agree on your suggestions , seems like the air head council and mayor don't have a clue. The only ones that are for this spending are the ones that will get kickbacks for the builders of these projects, plus the new truck 's bill will be padded so everyone gets their kickbacks. We all know the tricks. Go after delinquent landlords, tax scammers and dead beats, There is a million dollars right there. Why go after the people with a tax increase that always pay their taxes and the dead beats don't. Why are we getting penalized ?

I've been paying my taxes on time for the last 35 years and I get taxed more . Where are all the other people at that aren't paying their fair share. I say come down hard on them if they don't pay up, take those homes away from them. Chase them out of town.

First off, we can't tear down the building on 9th street that you refer to as the "Lowes building" because it's owned and the taxes are paid.

Secondly, the "Hub cap place" is being torn down by the owner because we pressured him into it and threatend him with hefty fines.

Third, you cannot convict with cameras. There would need to a crime in the area for us to look at the cameras.

Fourth, we YOU INCLUDED, need the police station. I had my street workers fix up the Borough building to try and keep the police there, but it wasn't enough. It would have cost 20,000 to finish it. A new one is a better idea.

Fifth, we are considering hiring some part-timers because we need more employees. Part timers equal no benefits. Very good and cost effective.

Were well on our way to bringing Glassport back to a lovely city. The sewage rate increase and 3 mil tax increase will make this borough a better place.

We need to raise taxes, things get expensive, look at the gas prices for the machinery we have in the borough. look at police and borough workers salaries, parts for these machines got expensive, asphalt got more expensive. Materials got more expensive road salt jumped 3 fold in 4 years. You want to run a town on 2008 prices? You cant do it ! So suck it up buttercup we are going to raise taxes to get what we want and need. If we don't raise taxes where do we get the money ? Use your heads people !

Oh it don't matter, the black section 8 people are always going to benefit by the loveliness of the town thanks to taxpayers who actually own property. How many black families actually own homes in town??? Then there's the stupid pool topic. Yeah fix up the pool on the tax payers dime for the scum to benefit. Then when they vandalize it, as it has been in the past, which is why it needs to be fixed, it's going to be expected that the tax payers pay to repair, and the tax payers to pay for a guard for after hours and then there's pension of those employees and health care benefits. It's all bullshit and you know it. The taxpayers are burdened, it's time to move out people let the homes be bought by scum and scum slumlords. Let them be burdened with taxes. It doesn't pay to fix stuff up for nontaxpaying people to enjoy, there's more section 8 scum in town than taxpayers. And you're never going to get rid of them.

Can you do an annual inspection on rental properties? Because if you could. Either two thing would happen 1 slumlords would give up their properties rather than have to repair them. 2. If they did get charged annual inspection fees knowing the properties will not pass they will again give up those properties and section 8ers will have to find somewhere else to live. Sounds like a win win we should be doing this starting right now!

Yeah when you come from fantasy island into the real world you should look for greasy palms and fat pockets. You will probably make the connection. It is politix, where should could would may might and must are the most frequent used useless words in the English language. Just who pray tell are you going to expect to carry out code enforcement? Christ we can't even get them to enforce curfew and loitering or even illegal gaming laws. What a joke.

You all sit here typing your fantasy island expectations but have no reality based follow thru plan in place. You can use as many elegant ten dollar words as you want but reality is in the here and now...show us the real world way

Put a bigass fence around town and get out before the barbed wire goes around and electric current. Because I see a sequel to escape from LA or New York coming.

The three mil tax increase will only make more tax payers suffer a greater burden than they already have been suffering. Your reevaluating your current spending and cutting waste and frivolities will make this town a better place. Get rid of unions, turn everyone into part time and can the pensions. Twenty thousand dollars to repair compared to half million new police station...hmmm...not a rocket scientist but geezus Christ almighty What would YOU pick? I would say the winner in thriftiness goes to the twenty thousand repair option.

How much a year goes to healthcare benefits? How many expense accounts are in play and what has been bought on those? Yeah time to look at frivolities here. What are the perks and how much are these perks costing us? And I dont mean that 103 a month everyone keeps ruminating and parroting. TIME TO GET MARTY INVOLVED.

47 out of 4000, WOW! If a ticket gets together in May, you'll see what the tax payers want.

And I hate Dave too, but stop with the sexual innuendos please. Just voting him out is enough.

Here's the deal, buy your fire truck, then pay it off, then build your police palace and pay it off, then build your community center and pay it off ,then pave the roads and pay that off, this is what responsible people do to spend tax payer money or even their own money. You don't take on 1/2 dozen big ticket debts at one time. Then you don't have to jack up taxes 3-4 mills at once !

Does anyone on council have an accounting degree or know how money works?
