On top of the multiple school and county tax liens Elash has against him, the IRS has recently filed 2 more. Check the public records online:

FTL-11-000512 for $42,444.82
FTL-11-000503 for $73,649.46

A total of $116,094.28 in back federal taxes! Unreal!

This is the guy that Mike Cherepko and his 3 cronies Diggs, McCall, and Walker on council keep trying to shove down the city's throat? The guy who Jim Brewster kept as solicitor for his whole 7 years?

Way to prove you are a puppet. Cherepko clearly doesn't give a damn about the city and only wants to keep crap like this going.

Vote NO to Cherepko!

The former City Solicitor's Federal liens started in 2004 when the former Mayor launched his illustrious political career escalation that culminated in being elected to the State Senate.

It is note worthy that the esteemed Senator endorsed and supported the following:

1) Three of the four candidates for council have liens on the Prothonotary website. In fact, one has over 20 cases.

2) The Council President endorsed for Mayor by the Senator continues to carry the baggage of some diminutive involvement in the ongoing MASD alleged sex scandal.

3) The former Mayor’s City Solicitor/Political activist has violated the HRC by politicking on the City clock. I guess only the Ories are subject to these kinds of laws – the Senator’s former City Solicitor is exempt.

What was the Senator thinking when he let his City Solicitor perpetuate these liens for six years? Who stopped or covered up actions by the delinquent tax firm or MASD on his property and earned income taxes?

The former Mayor could have helped the City Solicitor from this financial and disgraceful downward spiral by nipping it in the bud after the first year of delinquency. That is what friends are for.

It is ironic that one of the favorite put downs by the former Mayor and Council President is the accusation of negativity when anyone questions their actions. Yet immense negativity and embarrassment are heaped on the City by the former Mayor’s and MDC Chair on his judgment of the character and integrity of some (but not all) of his McKeesport endorsed candidates and a disgraced former employee. It is easy to understand why some candidates did not seek endorsement of the MDC.

How much longer is the news media going the perpetuate veiling these public facts? Where are you Mr. Marty Griffin when we need you to publicize the printed news media vacuum?

Unfortunately, it appears that the former City Solicitor blindly and obediently executed the former Mayor’s self promoting agenda and was too preoccupied to relate to reality.

We certainly pray that the former City Solicitor can establish a workable recovery plan to the satisfaction of all his creditors.

Will there be a lesson learned for all those who follow a self-defined leader blindly? Only time will tell.

Put your name up - I'd like to dig through your credit report. My name is Joseph Weber, I owe the IRS $47,342.00, I owe credit cards an approximate total of 15,000.00. Last year, my house went for Sheriff sale. None of which is UNREAL - it's the average American story these days. What's your story?

There are 105,480,101 households in the US. If this is the average American story that means that over 52 million households are in foreclosure and owe the IRS? I doubt it.

If you dig through my credit report you will find a score of 800. We drive 9 and 11 years old vehicles.

Joe, I am very sorry for your unfortunate financial plight. We pray and hope your situation improves in the near future. For point of reference, I just lost my job so I can relate to your plight and stress. But, there are no payments on the old cars – just big repair bills.

The difference that you aren't being pushed to be the city solicitor. A position that could be used by the city to file liens against residents. How could the city have a guy like that in that kind of position?

We should reinstitute debtors prison for all of you blood thirsty citizens. Anyone who is down on their luck or struggling to make it we can take them to Renzie Park and flog them. For those of you who need more we could draw and quarter them. Another idea - we could pin a great big scarlet A on Battista and force her to wear it! I find it very distasteful that in this age people feel as though they have the right to look through their neighbors financials or comment on their personal failings. Frankly, I don't care who owes what, or who's sleeping with whom and I strongly believe that those who do are societal failures who have an intense need to feel better about themselves so they go out of their way to knock down others. Polite society doesn't speak of such things. Your posts say more about yourselves than you realize.

And by the way - seriously, who has time to be digging through files like that? What kind of person is filled with such hatred that they would take time away from their own family or business to do this? What kind of person is so jealous of a car that throw it out there that this man drives a nicer car than theirs at every opportunity? Do not covet - it's always a big mistake. I learned that in church at the age of 10.

Where do you find that information on the Prothonotary's site? Who has judgements against them? Any of the mayoral canidates have liens?

The council President should return the favor and hold a fund raising golf outing for his friend.

Thank goodness for Miss Manners. No cultivation for the other bums spewing the filth on this thread. Miss Manners adds much needed class and cultivation to this thread. Unfortunately this thread is like a hunk of dog poop. And try if you may, dog poop can't be polished.

What kind of person takes a check from the city that is paid for by the taxpayers then turns around and doesn't pay his own?

The story is in today's Daily News too. What is really interesting that Elash admits he owed back CITY taxes as well.

3 questions

How could the Brewster regime employ a solicitor who owed taxes to the very city he is getting a $120,000 a year paycheck from?

How could Cherepko, Diggs, McCall, and Walker want to keep him?

Why were there no city liens against him if he owed?

Congratulations to the Topix poster who has stayed on top of the Elash case for months. Without his or her intervention, it is doubtful that the local print media would have ever released the story. It will be interesting to see if Brewster and his Fantastic Four duck and cover or play Tammy Wynette and stand by their man. I hope that Mr. Elash can turn his financial problems around. He should pick up a list of those 150 new businesses from Brewster and get his resume out.

Believe it. MOST people are in debt. The sad reality is that people live beyond their means, but if they're working, they can keep paying the bills. Once you lose your job, it's a slippery slope.

What kills me is how city hall excoriates residents as if we're criminals for not paying bills the day the damn things arrive, but all along, this $h!t is going on.

What must be made clear is that these taxes were owed when Elash was still employed by the city. Losing his job had nothing to do with this.

He said he was recently trying to clear his school and county liens up. Why did he wait until now?

And in the paper a few weeks ago he acted like he didn't know he owed anything

I'm angry and every city taxpayer should be angry too. This guy took our tax dollars in his pocket and refused to pay the same taxes we do!

And where was Keystone Municipal Services on the deliquent school, City property, earned income, and business taxes?

JB and the Solicitor and the puppets gave Keystone a multipule year contract and Keystone returned the favor.

Thank you, I think you are the only normal human being on this Topix. What a hate filled cyber room - I will NEVER come on this site again, I just hope that people realize not evryone in Mckeesport is so negative and nasty. Lot of kind, caring people here - they just don't come on Topix - for obvious reasons.

As one of the caring people in McKeesport I think we should take up a collection to help the displaced solicitor in his time of need. Does anyone have the number for McKeesport's pre-eminent fund raiser Edwin Coulter?

You're entitled to your opinion but not your own facts. Setting aside Ms. DiBattista (and I happened to be on your side), I've been appalled since I moved here more than 20 years at the neb-shitting that people do -- like who's behind in their taxes, who's having problems with the spouse, and many, many other things that Ms. Manners says should not discussed in public by decent folks.

However...

Those hypocrites at city hall are very, very good at making trouble with that kind of personal information to people they don't like or are afraid of. Like me, and some others who post regularly on here. It shouldn't be, but in McKeesport, it is. So, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

You're shooting the messengers. Regular posters here DO care about McKeesport, that's why we're angry that city hall points at the people who pay their salaries. Now they have three fingers pointing back.
