I read every one of these posts, and it seems most authors are very young and have THE history kinda mixed up.

I indeed knew Joey et al from a distance back in the day.

Mike Neuman (sp) was a young adult on his way to the governor's mansion. He was a direct descendant of Builders Supply in the 10th Ward a very lucrative and financial successful business in the area. He was a city council man. He as public record can verify hired two Bell of PA linemen to bug the City school directors phone for political insight. Much as Watergate a few years later. The bug was improperly installed, and instead of recording the phone conversations they broadcast same to those who happened to be near the telephone pole where the device was attached. Yup, the Feds got a scent of the transgression, and nailed the 2 linemen. They flipped on Mike, and Mike did some Fed time. This destroyed his political ambitions. He upon release went into the vending business headquartered in a warehouse near the Elks before it burned down.(That's another story - The Famous Fire)
Ok, so what does this have to do with the McKeesport infamous Joey Bertone? I degressed to enlighten those on the fore-mentioned Mike Neuman.

The name Joey Heatherington too was mentioned, however as was earlier corrected; his first name was Jocko. He also was misplaced in the history seen on this page.

Jocko was gunned down (22 caliber in the back of his head)at the Quality Courts parking lot on Route 30 east of the Westinghouse Bridge in North Versailles. He had just previously stopped in the lounge there on his return trip from Pittsburgh where he was on trial for distribution of cocaine. Testimony that day during the trial portrayed Jocko was a cooperating witness with the Allegheny County Police. That testimony which was unexpected, and for the record not so was not keenly absorbed by those who were involved with Jocko in his many illegal ventures. Memory reminds me the Daily News may have so have reported the alleged revelations of his cooperation. The Daily news generally hit the streets around 2 PM, daily. Thus, the story was there. Approximately, 6-7 PM is when Jocko took the hit. However, Jocko's body was not discovered for perhaps an hour or more.

Joey Bertone a well known McKeesporter and recognized easily by most people of that era. Joey showed up in the McKeesport Hospital emergency room in a fluster the same evening Jocko met his demise. Joey in his boisterous normal fashion with his wise guy dialect was asking to see his buddy Jocko who just came to the hospital as Joey said: "shot in the head". He was met by shock as no one least of all Jocko who likewise was well known had been brought to the emergency room shot.

Oops! De jav u... An hour so later after Joey's noisy inquiry, Jocko is indeed wheeled into the very same hospital emergency room with a bullet hole in his head.

Joey who was known for many things peculiar was not known for his clairvoyance. However, he was known among other attributes as a self proclaimed "hit man".

I sure can add the connection between Jocko to Joey, and why Joey would have been rattled at the possibility Jocko was providing the police with inside information.

Out of space for now.

Post #84 is excellent Port history and the part I was aware of are precisely as you published.

Excellent historical facts and thanks for putting it together so well.

With all due respect, I would like to add to the Neuman starting or trigger point. At a council meeting the school director publically accused councilman Neuman of using city equipment to clean some debris from Neuman's car wash at the bottom of Eden Park Blvd. The school director said he had pictures to show Mike used city equipment. However, no such pictures existed and the school director admitted such. But, Mike did not know about that. Unfortunately, Mike over reacted to try to neutralize the nonexistent photos and ended up in a federal cage.

I know some one that just happened to be at that council meeting and overheard the late school director telling his companion, that “Now I got to go out and take those pictures that I told Mike I had.” Mike got dupped on that one.

I agree with you the Mike was on his way to higher political offices. He had it all. He had the most impressive and expensive bill boards every for a council race. Too bad he jumped off track so bad and fast.

May be Jocko was going to complain to the Judge that one of the high jacked TVs he bought from Joey did not have a clear picture?

Jimmy Hoffa Buried In Detroit Area, Reputed Mobster Tony Zerilli Says

01/14/13 07:22 PM ET EST

DETROIT — A man convicted of crimes as a reputed Mafia captain is claiming missing Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa was buried in suburban Detroit.

Tony Zerilli was in prison when Hoffa disappeared from a Detroit-area restaurant in 1975, but tells New York TV station WNBC he was informed about Hoffa's whereabouts after his release.

The ailing 85-year-old took a reporter to a field near Rochester, north of Detroit, but no exact location was disclosed. The report was also aired on Detroit's WDIV.

"The master plan was ... they were going to put him in a shallow grave here," Zerilli said (). "Then, they were going to take him from here to Rogers City upstate. There was a hunting lodge and they were going to bury in a shallow grave, then take him up there for final burial. Then, I understand, that it just fell through." http://bit.ly/W1KgZp
Zerilli did not say during the aired interview why he chose to make his claims now. WNBC reported he is promoting an upcoming book titled "Hoffa Found," the website for which promises to reveal details about Hoffa's death.

No listed phone number for Zerilli could be found Monday by The Associated Press.
The FBI declined to comment when asked if Zerilli's claims were credible. Former Detroit FBI head Andrew Arena said the remarks deserve serious consideration.

"Anthony Zerilli was reputed to be the underboss of the Detroit organized crime family, so he would have been in the know," Arena said.

Zerilli's criminal record includes a 2002 conviction for conspiracy and extortion. He was sentenced to six years in prison.
Hoffa, Teamsters president from 1957-71, was an acquaintance of mobsters and adversary to federal officials. The day he disappeared, he was supposed to meet with a New Jersey Teamsters boss and a Detroit Mafia captain.

In September, police took soil from a suburban backyard after a tip Hoffa had been buried there. It was just one of many fruitless searches. Previous tips led police to a horse farm northwest of Detroit in 2006, a Detroit home in 2004 and a backyard pool two hours north of the city in 2003.

Is that you, Jerry? You didn't mention Ferri or LaRocca or DeStafano, the former White Oak cop whose testimony was integral in the shooting trial of Jocko as he claimed he was approached first and asked to whack Jocko. Trying to tie Joey to the Cubans, at least with this incident, is a stretch but you already know this. Why did you leave town with no forwarding address and why are you back in Florida keeping such a low profile? The Eyes know.

The high jacking of a trailer truck of color TVs found in Glassport was not mentioned. When they caught Joey, a key witness was found murdered in a trunk of a car in Ohio. Wise guy Joey walked on this one. I do not know who got the TV's but Joey offered to get a color TV cheap for some friends.

The Eyes Know??? Do they??? I don't think so!!!

Nope, I am not Jerry! You state: "...former White Oak Cop testimony ...shooting trial of Jocko"? What trial? What cop? You also state: "Trying to tie Joey to the Cubans..."? How so? And in what inference do you concoct such? This history is not mysterious or complicated, thus I tend to think perhaps your post may be so motivated. My thoughts are if you stay with the facts instead of the bizarre inference theories, innuendos, and suppositions the "The Eyes" may actually come to really SEE, and then know.

By the way it is sunny and clear today here in Florida, and I can SEE for miles and miles.

Yea, I'm gonna say you're Jerry. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. In fact, your penchant for changing your user name pretty much confirms it for me but hey, what it does it matter what I believe, right?

What trial? What cop?
http://news.google.com/newspapers...

Just how familiar -are- you with this incident or are you repeating what you thought you heard?

YOU inferred Joey has something to do with this, not I. To wit, your words: "I sure can add the connection between Jocko to Joey."

You're right in one regard, this history is not mysterious nor complicated despite your silly conjecture of purely subjective and speculative guessing. I have the facts as do most who are familiar with the players. You've demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt you want to come across as if you know something but you have nothing, not even the -facts-.

Enjoy your Florida retreat, Jerry. As they say, you can never go home again. The Eyes ALWAYS know.

I saw Joey at the casino the other night. He was dressed in the garb that indentified him as a camel Sheppard. We talked but would not tell me where he lived. But, he mumbled something about a tent and a lot of sand and no rain.

I guess the witness protection program has no bounds.

Without defending the guy , I so much wish Joey could be standing right behind you & hear your moronic, assine statement. This is why this ghetto boro can never get better, too many fools & trolls talking crap on stuff that they don't have a clue about. These street thug 'puppies' wouldn't stand a chance in any area of the City back 'when'. Funny thinking about someone running this crap in the old Imperial,Theatre Bar,Beer Barrel & etc, so on & on. No guns needed - just knuckle & skull. The boy thugs couldn't hang out there.

This is just as example that Joey RESPECTED the County Ordinance forbidding smoking in restaurants.

Joey had more RESPECT for all ordinances than our city fathers who are endorsing a RESPECT theme campaign to curb violence.

Good point and you may be correct. Sorry about my inadvertent historical error. May be Joey out of RESPECT for of his patrons was ahead of this time?

Never-the-less, Joey RESPECTED the rights and the enjoyment of other patrons to breathe non-smoke contaminated air. He was a class person, I RESPECT his standing on the RESPECT for others to enjoy a meal with out unhealthy and annoying smoke by inconsideration people.

The elected officials, city employees, and high profile citizens should followed a known felon's example of RESPECT for others.

RESPECT starts with our leaders being honest and transparent and a establishing a non-bully zone city hall.
