Joey Bertone was a real person. There are many stories about him one of my favorites is the one where he hired the japanese gardener and ran up a tremendous bill. When the gardener came to collect Joey told him to get the f%&k out of here we are even for pearl harbor. I will say this much his mother had the best meatball hoagie in Mckeesport at the Italian Store on Versailles ave.

He did tell her. And the baby grand was removed.

And, we dug up an old report of a hand gun projectile entering his chest at a local watering hole of downtown McKeesport.

This was in the days he was a boxer at the Palisades.

The news reports said that a "witness" says he had met up with some associates at the Jordan trucking garage in Duquesne over a drug deal gone bad...apparantly he and a buddy went to florida and got some dope and stole it or soemthing...and that is where he disappeared from, in the trunk of a car, and then ended up buried 'somewhere" in a housing development in level green.

I once met a guy who claimed he was an apprentice to the electrician who worked in Bertone's house.....he said that he knew without a doubt that he was "in a 50 gallon drum and tossed over the side of the bridge" there in mckeesport.

Others say he flipped and is living under an assumed name etc somewhere.

Who knows for sure?

Every time I run into someone and tell them I live in McKeesport, they seem to have a Joey story.....

And, how about the enormous roof he built over his outdoor swimming pool to convert to an indoor pool?

He did it right under the noise of the Mayor whose backyards almost touched

I assume you are saying that JB erected the roof without a permit?

So are you saying that JB had so much "pull" that he did this and Popvich had to watch and do nothing? Or that Popovich just never knew?

Frankly, after dealing with the current building inspector's office, I am not surprised. They dont care if someone is building something, aside from collecting the tax, IMHO.

How big was the pool? When you say "roof" , do you mean like a screen house roof? I didnt think you needed permits for those since they are temporary?

Our neighbors put up a freestanding wood deck around 3/4 of their pool and then fenced their yard and never got any permits.....why would a screen roof be any different?
