Once again, McKeesport streets are RIDICULOUS because of a little snow and ice.
Rumour has it that Mckeesport is OUT OF SALT.
They closed mcK/Duq bridge and everywhere around town is ice.
For Christ's sake -- it is SW PA and it is winter. NO EXCUSE for running out of salt....our weather has been like this forever.
Why can't we stockpile salt in the summer when its cheap.
So the kids stay home again and parents have to call off from work etc because our mayor cant make sure that the road crews are doing their jobs.
We had a week's notice for this 'storm" and it was anywhere near as bad as they had forecasted.
yet things are shut down.
SLOPPY SLOPPY SLOPPY way to run a city McKeesport.
ANYONE can run a city when the weather is sunny and 70. Its when there are weather issues and other challenges when leadership should shine.
Leadership aint shining right now.

the borough workers are useless over paid union goons....most are drunks and drug addicts, they are all related to council members ( past and present ) and got hired they couldn't get a job on their own. non union people would work harder and get the job done plus save the tax payers money

What RETARD judged the original post as "negative" etc? Who in their right mind LIKES being stuck at home and not able to get to work because of our city not being prepared?
God forbid we ever get a REAL weather situation.

I bet the roads are good by Brewster's, Student Mayor's and Lou's houses.
The McKeesport/Duquesne Bridge was closed for a few hours Sunday afternoon too.
Nevermind that $h!t, let's talk about the strip club, and what's this about ANOTHER committee being created?

It's nice that we are on the news again showcasing our lovely city and how well he take care of it. We are the only school district that had to close. Just a shame!! It's now 9:50am and our roads are still covered with ice. Where are all of our office officials? No one can be reach for an interview to explain to the tax payer of the city why its like this.
Maybe someone should of ordered some salt since we've been out since Dec.
Seems like the areas around us have their stuff together.
HMMMM -- I wonder what relative needs a job????
#6 Mar 3, 2014
Actually I know someone who lives near Brewster's daughters house in Haler Heights and they are stuck due to ice. Roads have not been touched.
Friends in Port Vue say their roads are just fine.
West Mifflin closed their schools today, but only because they could not get through the roads in McKeesport that their buses use.
Its a very sad indication about how our city is being run on a day to day basis.
By the way....Please....Dont change the subject. You want to chat about other topics and whine about the same issues you whine about elsewhere, start a thread. Its called good manners.

The workers are not the ones to blame here.
Lack of supplies is the issue.
That fault lies solely in the lap of the city managers and the mayor.
The workers just drive the plows and spread the materials, which they cannot do if the supplies do not exist.
#8 Mar 3, 2014
Who made the decision to plow and not salt? Side streets that we untouched by plows are passable. The roads that were plowed have the Pens and Blackhawks scheduled for an 8 PM puck drop.

The student mayor and deputy mayor abhor negativity. They do every thing in their power to suppress negativity or sugar coat spin it or edit the local news.
They take over the Renzie Senior Center, fire the city administrator, and force the retirement of the beloved CD directory justified to reduce negativity.
But the negativity fighters are the only source of negativity. How was your attempted driving trip so far today? You vote for Brewster endorsed candidates, this is what you get. Blame the blind MDC controlled voters for the mess today and all other messes.
If you voted for the bully team --- it is your fault.

The Chief took the lead his Public Safety personnel are in danger out there. Lets recall the Mayor and nominate him. The temperature is not going up and the county and state roads have black ice creeping in. This was not a unexpected no preparation. Plowing down to the ice made it worse. They needed to scrape until they hit asphalt. Plus there is a state of emergency and Penn State Mckeesport is still open oh I am sorry they are Greater Allegheny they succeeded from Mckeesport I guess the more education you have the stupider you get. Cant wait to see the news and excuses tonight.

Road conditions and community safety are not a high priority.
Expelling the evil and despicable persons that donated their time and expertise to run the Renzie Senior Center for years is the number one priority. We are excellent in banishing our political enemies.
Those frightful RSC committee members are more of a threat than black ice.

I'm glad someone clear up the reason for no salt - this makes it all right ;)

FROM TUBE CITY ONLINE
A critical shortage of salt for melting ice and snow has led McKeesport officials to declare a disaster emergency.
Residents are being urged to delay travel unless absolutely necessary, Mayor Mike Cherepko said...
The city buys its salt through a joint purchasing program with the South Hills Area Council of Governments. Cherepko said road salt was ordered Feb. 10, but has yet to be shipped. The salt usually arrives within one to three days, he said.
"We have diligently rationed our remaining salt supply over the past few weeks, but it was critically depleted due to two house fires over the weekend," Cherepko said. Salt was needed to melt the ice as firefighters put out those blazes.
Roads in some neighborhoods have become "unsafe for travel," city police Chief Bryan Washowich said this morning. He asked residents who "do not have an emergency or life threatening situation" to remain at home and off of the roads until the roads can be treated.
"This will ensure your safety and allow emergency personnel to respond to calls throughout the city," Washowich said.
The city is "exhausting" all of its efforts to collaborate with local, county and state agencies to procure more salt, Cherepko said, and hopes to have the matter resolved "in the very near future."

And this in from Council:
As a Councilwoman in the City of McKeesport I want to apolgize for the issues with salt/roads. We had a house fire last night and the salt went to that and the snow that hit yesterday. This should have been communicated to the citizens ASAP. I want to truly apolgize for that. We are working to address this issue. We have been reaching out to other communities and the county for weeks now. At this time we are in the process of discussing declaring a state of emergency. I will keep everyone posted. If you live, or work in McKeesport please stay in the house. Once again from the bottom of my heart I truly apolgize. Respectfully Councilwoman Fawn Walker Montgomery

And no one will show up at the next council meeting asking, "what went wrong" ?

this a is a great day to stay home and have sex with whomever you can find ..
Leave out the family pet,,,,,,that's just gross ..

This is want happens when you take away illegal gambling machines and put the scrotum clamps on the guy that fed the city with cash to make ends meet. So you cant have it both ways ! The cow has dried up as far as funds are concerned. With a million dollars seized by the FEDS, that could have bought some salt.
#18 Mar 3, 2014
That 15K raise they gave to a McKeesport employee could have bought a lot of salt. OH WELL !
#19 Mar 3, 2014
This just in - City officials will exchange their city vehicles for salt!
If this is the case we will have salt for the next 5 years.

can you name other towns in the mon valley where public officials ( other than cops ) have tax payer owned cars that they drive around in?
I know the mayors in glassport, homestead, port vue and munhall thye drive their own cars.
this is news to me why the tax payer pays for a car for a mayor, and the gas that goes with it?
How was this allowed? what other official scum drives around in tax payers cars?
