If the taxpayers are smart, they will make sure that there is a cold day in h#ll before they allow Holtzman to win. He destroyed the school district which is full of children!! Can you imagine what he will do with the city???? He does not care about what is best for the community as a whole, he is only concerned with helping out HIS family, and HIS family only. In addition, he is power hungry, which is NEVER a good sign!

Either that rascally Sluggo is a political genius for this rapid response poll OR he has an astute political confidante in "The General" from Braddock. Either way, he or they are embarassing and making a mockery of his/their enemies. As Paul would say.... a battle of wits vs. unarmed opponents.

The clear cut "peoples choice" for mayor is Holtzman. The city needs a strong leader.

Let us stop for second and break that assinine comment down by its constituent parts.

Why Elect Mark Holtzman?

Does Gerry Tedesco have a big city contract to bid soon?

Is someone else trying to put a new achool on live gas wells?

Is another of his kids graduating with a degree who is under qualified and wants to be overpaid?

Holtzman is likely to be indicted and perhaps incarcerated before May,

Sluggo's battles with depression are well documented and public record. When the hard times hit Mark, and they will, as a result of his own misdeeda, it will be interesting to see if he is as capable of handling the stress like my good friend Sluggo did last year.

I am not a fan of Mark politically but I do consider him as more than just an acquaintance. I hope for his family's sake that he has half the intestinal fortitude that Paul Shelly has displayed to all for the past 18 months or so.

Paul is a guy that lost the love of his life, a high paying job, his home, an election, was falsely imprisoned and had a strained relationship with his older two kids.

Just a year and a half since his troubles strarted, Paul has a new love who I hear is all that and a bag of chips, runs a growing McKeesport business, owns or is soon to own a mansion on Huey Street, is the leading candidate to be Mckeesport's next elected Mayor and is close once again with all of his children.

If that isn't a text book study in overcoming adversity, show me one.

Mark is delusional if he thinks he can beat Paul Shelly for Mayor. As is everyone else for that matter who has such aspirations. It is Paul's time.

Mark, and his family would be better served by reaching out to Paul and uniting vs. the machine. Unlike Brewster, who has people pick up the phone because of his position, Paul has real friends in high places who may be able to soften Mark's bounce when he falls.

McKeesport needs a leader?

THAT IS TRUE.

They have already selected the next 2. Rege this year and Paul next May.

Both are good choices.

That's my take on it all. But then again, what do I know?

I am a nobody.

I know nothing.

I don't know where you got your information, but it all a bunch of rumors. Mark is an exceptional person and highly credible. Take your rumors elsewhere.

Councilman Al Tedesco for mayor. He won without Brewster's blessing. He is his own man.

AJ is a good kid and a ood kid and a good councilman. It is not his time. Maybe down the road but we need a leader like Shelly or Rege who can hit the ground running.

If nothing else, Shelly is someone who has not really been part of the political machine. Ok, the council stint.....but thats far less involvement than what Holtzman was. Once you get used to swinging your weight around in a political environment, you crave the high it gets.

Shelly at least hasnt had much of that.

He seems to have some ideas worth looking at.

Can he accomplish them ? Who knows.

But ask yourself -- have recent mayors been able to do anything they promised? That never changes.

So now all you can vote for is if you like a person's ideas and what they stand for.

I dont agree that Holtman has wrecked the school district...for the most part I think we should be proud of our school district considering we are a depressed city and still have decent numbers and decent facilities, and a plan to move forward.

Does that make Holtman a good candidate for mayor? I dunno.

But what we do need is a public town hall meeting where the candidates meet and debate. Anything like that planned?

Well, I attended the last one at Cornell and previous ones at the High School. Never have I seen so many lackluster personalities answering softball questions in one place for over an hour. If the residents can't ask any questions, and the candidates don't get to take on each other directly, they're mostly just dog-and-pony shows.

I agree to a point. The questions were tame and measured. That being said, Walker and Shelly shone through on the Council side and Maksin, Spando and Donato on the School Director side. All are credits to the community. Wouldn't you agree Troublemaker?

I do. So, it seems the event moves back to the high school. Let's hope the moderators finally ask the tough questions or let the audience ask questions, and let the candidates talk to each other.

But we'll be treated like little kids again.

To me, "town hall meeting" automatically means that the PEOPLE ask the questions, within reason.

When people vote for "Mrs. Shelly's Favorite Son", do they realize they are voting for my baby Brother? lol...

My Sister Donna was Sluggo's Favorite, all Mother's, almost without exception love their youngest the best..

I guess that leaves me as a middle child...

Maybe that explains some things about me... ;)

I like the Town Hall format as well. For the record, I will debate any candidate, any time, any place. Online, in person, live from the County Jail (smile) or wherever.

Folks, please take this next comment as confident and nt cocky, as I have dreamed of and planned for becoming Mayor, when the time was right, for the past 12 years; ever since I tried (naively) to help JB beat Wayne Kucich with a write-in campaign.

Nobody, IMHO, has studied the issues we face longer or more intensely. Nobody, IMHO, has pondered solutions and has plans A, B, C, etc.. to make them happen.

Nobody, IMHO, loves Mckeesport more. Many may love her and her people as much, but nobody loves them more.

Nobody, IMHO, is willing to get up as early and stay up as late as i am, going 90MPH to get the job done. I am blessed with great energy and passion. Some folks may take that as good ole Sluggo being manic... and maybe they are right. I take it to mean that I have the benefit of great genes ands the same work eithic handed down by my parents, aunts, uncles and immigrant (Hungarioan and Polish) grandparents.

We are only here on this Earth for a flicker folks...

We might as well make the most of our time and leave nothing in reserve.

People will say that even the Lord rested on the 7th day...

Not to blaspheme our Father, but he didn't have high unemployment, decaying infrastructure, greedy self serving politicians (not all!) and the 2nd highest murder rate in Allegheny County to deal with!

I have a 7 years plan for transforming McKeesport into being a BETTER place than it ever was.

We ain't "bringing it back" people; nor do we want to. Andrew Carnegie isn't being reincarnated any time soon and neither likely is the Steel Industry. We need to adapt and grow and blossom into a 21st Century major city, as we can. This takes new ideas, new leaders, new people at the table and a new and fressh way of doing the business of living and politicking in McKeesport!

The old ways are dead with the mills.

It just has taken the voting public 30 years to catch up with reality as they will in 2011.

I do not know if I will run in 2011 or 2016 but I do know that I will be running.

I humbly and respectfully ask for your support and promise only that I will listen, think and work hard. These three things, in combination, have been lacking in our Mayors since I have been voting. Sorry if that pisses any Past Mayor or their families off. Just keeping it real and genuine.(IMHO)

Paul seems to have his act together. Good for him and his family. Turnabout is fair play. Better yet for McKeesport. It looks like we will have a real Mayor who really cares soon. Vote Sluggo!!!
