Mr. Risha, 59, of Rostraver, who became superintendent in 2006 and abruptly retired in December, was under investigation by the state Ethics Commission. The basis of that probe, as reported by the Post-Gazette in April, was a report from a private investigative firm hired by the school board that said district maintenance workers were ordered in 2008 and 2009 to perform work, on district time, at the homes of Mr. Risha, his son and a school director.

I won't make political comments about the deceased. Like every one of us, Coach Risha had his strengths and his faults. I had the pleasure of coaching Patrick (Jr.) in hoops at E.F. back around 1996. He was a good kid and his dad was always cordial and respectful to me as his son's coach. I believe Patrick went on to graduate from an Ivy Leaugue or near Ivy League school. That is a testament to him and his parents.

Later, as I was a volunteer assistant under Corey Gadson, Pat, as Superintendent, was always good with me and the other coaches. He was just as cool after a tough loss as he was a big win.

I know Pat will be remembered for a lot of things. One thing I remember vividly is that when Clairton was going to cancel their football season and drop that legendary program, Pat went out and, I believe, nearly single-handedly, raised the money to keep the program going and the kids playing.

I can't claim to know all the stuff Pat Risha did during his days here. I do choose to remember the things he did well.

RIP Coach.

I don't care what haters say. You will be missed.

Coach Rish was a great man. He bought our team spikes every year. When we played on turf in the playoffs he made sure we had turf shoes too. I watched him give students and players money out of his pocket countless times so they would be able to buy clothes for school and eat lunch. He would do anything for his players and students in the school. He gave kids a chance to succeed. He helped many people. Rest In Peace Coach. You will be missed.

Sluggo ,you're a f%$king idiot. Risha played the cat and mouse game. He stole more than he gave away. Most likely the money that he used to buy spikes for poor kids,he scammed several school districts over the years, plus the kickbacks he got by hiring HIS contractors. He was a crook, scum, and a racketeer. More should follow him to the gates of hell! If you want to be Mayor you better open your eyes, that religious shit only goes so far.

Sorry to see anyone die....could have been all the stress of the investigation that took its toll.....sad to see happen to anyone...and "rot away" 's second line was out of line.

That said:

"a report from a private investigative firm hired by the school board that said district maintenance workers were ordered in 2008 and 2009 to perform work, on district time, at the homes of Mr. Risha, his son and a school director."

This wasnt just someone trolling on the web accusing him of something....by chance. This was what he was up to, and maybe more. What is finally exposed in cases like these is usually just the tip of the iceberg.

True, let the dead lie. I wont speak ill of him now.

But Paul, you are willing to overlook Risha's questionable activity just as you are (now) willing to overlook the accusations you lodged against JB, which were very similar.

Not sure if you ever bashed Risha on this forum for the stuff he was accused of, but I really do have to wonder why you are all of a sudden are feeling so full of forgiveness of people?

Yes, everyone has a good and bad side. But when the bad side is allowed to take over it makes any good that person does suspect. And being "ok" with it is something that we as a society need to stop doing.....if you feel that someone did something wrong, speak out and stand your ground. Dont just "play the game". Because "the game" is why we are where we are.

Just my two cents.

There you go again.....

Paul gives a thoughtful, warm and honest tribute to a man who DID do some good things in his life. Life is not Black nor White. We all are capable of good and evil and all issues are not clear cut as the Left Wingers and Right Wingers would have us believe. Based on your posts, you seem to be a right wing idealogue. Am I "Right"?

Pat Risha will be remembered with love by some and despise by others. Such is life and death I suppose.

Paul knew the man personally and admired some of his efforts. What is wrong with him saying so?

Get off your soap box will you? It's getting old.

No doubt we are all capable of doing good and evil.

Thing is: should we ACCEPT the evil just because its convenient?

I am simply pointing out where Paul (yet again) seems to look past the issues in favor of a warm/fuzzy side.

Actually, you are right -- some issues are NOT clear cut. But in the case of Paul bashing JB, it is. In the case where Risha was busted for similar "crimes" to what Paul accused JB of, it is.

Paul has (lately) had a great way of "wagging the dog" with his replies....turning thing around to make it seem like the issue isnt the issue....and of ending replies with the warm fuzzy message of "elect me and things will change"...but he never addresses the core issue being asked.

And for the record, I didnt cause this issue with my posts....Paul did the day he announced to the world that he was endorsing someone who he had previously bashed.

Nothing complicated there, either. No grey area.

I am very "common sense" party.....neither right or left wing, if you feel you have to put people into a party, thats your thing.

I just go by my gut.

And so far, in my opinion (and thats all it is) Paul has wanted to overlook serious things done by officials in favor of a)doing whats best for Mckeesport and b) not speaking ill of the dead he previously bashed people for.

Like I said....Risha may have been the greatest guy around...wonderfula family man and husband, great coach, whatever, and only started taking advantage of his power recently. That doesnt mean he is any less guilty.

I dont love OR hate the guy. Just speaking the obvious.

Try not to read so much into others' posts.

Yes. Risha was a helluva guy to those who knew him and enough of a crook that he was being investigated by people who didn't understand him.

I was speaking with an older lady friend of mine from Clairton today. She said Pat was always someone people could go to for help. Just because a few of the crazies in West Mifflin politics (the majority) made some crap up about Rish, that doesn't mean they were true.

Pat booked some numbers. Big Friggn deal!

We have elected officials in McKeesport who do way worse on a daily basis.

Rest in Peace Pat.

You earned it.

It is a shame that West Mifflin's worst like Nick Alexandroff and Phil Shar's wife post in here disrespecting a man who did more for people in one day than those losers will ever do in their lives. Coach Rish would buy shoes for the kids who couldn't afford them. Drive them to school to make sure they attended. Coach Rish will be long remembered when the white trash from West Mifflin will be forgotten about.

Funny how most outside of West Mifflin truly loved the man and recognized all the large and small things he did for people in need.
I think maybe you should learn the real story behind the "grade fix" you're referring to. Because I bet you really have no idea about it at all.
Stay in West Mifflin, scum. The man was way better than any of the political idiots sitting on that board these days.

Make no mistake about it there no person in this world Pat Risha would not help out regardless of what you did or said about him thats just the type of person he was. This guy had the biggest heart in the whole mon valley.
