support your failing students first......
schools are to teach...not show kids how to dunk a basketball of throw a football.....

mckeesport is on the watch list since their pssa scores for the last few years are about in the cellar....

Two area school districts, Duquesne City and McKeesport Area, failed to achieve adequate yearly progress on Pennsylvania System of School Assessment tests, according to figures released by the state Department of Education.

McKeesport Area went from "making progress" last year to "corrective action 2" status, with its senior high school in "corrective action 2" for a fifth straight year.

Schools and/or districts not achieving AYP could be placed in one of the following categories:

* "Warning" does not subject a school or district to consequences but calls for a change in strategies that could lead to AYP in the following year.

* An entity "making progress" had AYP but is in the first of two years of probation after "school improvement" or "corrective action" ratings.

* At "school improvement 1" an entity failed for two consecutive years to get AYP.

* "School improvement 2" means AYP didn't happen for three straight years.

* "Corrective action 1" means a district or school still hasn't met AYP after years of efforts at improvement. It could face changes in curriculum, leadership or professional development.

Lets hire a football coach to win the WPIAL!!

And what have you done to try to improve education? Have you looked at any of the board candidates? Have you questioned any hirings other than those attached to the athletic realm? Can you even name all the present board members? Or their predecessors? How about the curriculum? Do you have any idea what it is, or what the requirements are?
Probably not, instead you will sit there and throw stones at the shortcomings of the performance of the kids. Did you question any of the hirings of the multitudes of holtzmans, or kiss, or any other administrator?
If you can't say yes to these questions, then you have no right to throw stones in your glass house.

My suggestion to improve education has been and always will be unconditional vouchers for every student.

This message was NOT APPROVED BY ANY TEACHERS' UNION!

There's a good tactic throw stones at the union. Guess what, union or no union, with vouchers everyone is going to want to go to the best schools and there just isn't enough space at those schools.
Vouchers are not the answer. Holding your elected officials responsible for their curriculum and hirings is the answer. Work to make your school the school of choice.
Wake up and smell the coffee. If you don't start demanding accountability of your elected officials, you are signing away your children's future.

Have you ever considered the the .01% want you to not pay attention, to let your schools fail. Then they can take your money much more easily because you'll be too stupid to know its happening. Kinda like your elected officials are doing already!!!

A majority of parents agree, with 73% saying parents need to be held accountable for their child’s academic achievement. 64% said parents should be fined if their child repeatedly cuts class or has failed more than one subject.

Definately! Even if it's just letting your child(ren) sit at the kitchen table while you cook dinner so you can be there to help, answer questions. Dinner can always be put on hold, or if Dad's there, let him be there to help. The mose important thing...check the homework!!!!!! Make sure it is ALL done and done correctly. Make sure you praise them, especially since YOU can't sit with them. Teachers have more than 1 child in a class. We as parents HAVE to help them.

Drop out d

Not disputing your figures, just curious where you found them. I agree, as parents we need to be more involved in our children's education. But, we also have to show them we are involved in the community. We have to show them we are willing to stand up for what is right.

How many parents have never read the constitution, the bill of rights? We have to begin to impress on them these are much more than an old sheet of paper.

When things are not going as they should on our community, we must show them we are willing to go to our elected officials to raise concerns and support our causes.

Too long we parents have been sheep. Not willing to defend not only our children, but ourselves as well.

In the 1860's, our ancestors were willing to go to war, fight brother vs brother in some cases for what they believed was right. In the 1960's, some of our ancestors walked a peaceful line of protest to fight for rights and dignity. Our children will be the parents and grandparents of the children of 2060. Will we be able to impress upon them the need to be active in our governmental process and society to fight for their causes?

All I am saying is parenting for school is just the first step of parenting for life.

Maybe you need someone to sit down with you and teach you how to read. Where in my post was I bashing Bishop or the team? I was just letting everyone know that Dean Pope is bashing MASD and the school board and in the same breath wants Coach Bishop to reach out to him.

Caught some of the fall ball game today against Serra. What a difference in coaching staffs. Serra has one and a couple of the guys coaching the Tigers today didn't seem to have any idea what they were doing. The low point of the day was when with 2 outs and a man on first down at least 6 runs the 3rd base coach gave 2 bunt signals with the number 2 hitter in the lineup batting. At this point I had seen enough and went home. If one of these guys are the new head coach, why did they even bother, because other than the guy coaching first who seemed to be instructing the kids and seemed as frustrated as some of the fans the other 2 shouldn't be allowed anywhere on a baseball field.

To compare any coaching staff with Coach Dzurenda and crew is not fair, but I do agree with your assessment of the staff on the field today for McKeesport. Coach Bishop was not at the games today and 2 Of the guys were dads of players who hopefully will not be his assistants. I will give them credit for volunteering to make sure the boys had Coaches for today. I have seen the first base coach before and think he is a hold over from the previous coach and also agree it looks as if he has baseball knowledge. I have gone to many games over the past few years and it looked like the guys coaching today had quite a few kids in positions that they do not normally play. Whether that was out of necessity or they just don't know any better is any ones guess. I did hear some of the fans/parents comment that the regular shortstop and I think first baseman were not there today!

Other than a few most of the team that played today are JV players. At least 5 or 6 regulars must play football or were just not there today.

Lets not get carried away, the new head coach wasn't there and for all we know the guys running the team are only there because the new coach hasn't had time to put his own staff in place. I would hope that these guys are just over zealous boosters who will not be coaching once the new coach does arrive.

The boosters need to realize that they are there to get stuff for the kids and not tell the coach how he should do something or what he should do!

All you have to do is open Dean Popes Facebook page and see him bashing MASD. No one in the entire city of McKeesport wanted that clown in the area except for a couple goof ball booster parents for selfish reasons. Good Luck Coach Bishop and do yourself a favor....lose Dopes phone number!!!
After what he posted on the baseball booster web page he should never be allowed to coach here. The problem Bishop is going to have is not the talent of the kids, but the interfering of the people in charge of the booster group. It is no secret that they all wanted Pope and are not happy that Bishop got the job.

I am confused, Did the Bishop get promoted to Pope or did the Pope get demoted to Bishop? Should the school rename the team Cardinals?
