We hope this rumor is not true. The Chick’s chicks are attractive chicks and the food excellent.

If this is a true rumor then it seems like businesses on Walnut Street and vicinity are cursed.

The closures over the years are astonishing – just to mention a few. Tasty Donut, Arby’s, Tiger Town, Coffee Pot, Reliance Steel, Venetian Blind Co, Enamel Products Coating Co, Menzie Dairy, Potter McCune, Florist Shop, Chivirinni (sp?), Wally and Joes, King Rental, Gilbert Lumber, Keystone Auto Parts, Hardware store across from Mars, Lawn Repair Shop, Ames, Eddie Cleaners, Ackerman’s, Authers and Lestrange, Burger King, Neuman’s Car Wash, All Pro Chicken, Lemon Tree, at least four churches, Galen and Jones, two auto dealerships, Sam’s Hotdog Shop, Zotters Backery, Palanese Club, and I know I cannot recall many more along or on this strip.

This is so sad and every closing has a legitimate story behind it.

And - Sunshine produce - Krol music - 25 bar - Linberg's bar - Boron station - Dairy queen (near Pizzaburg)- Frinsco's bar - Buck's tavern -?Bank?(near Tillies)- Eat'n' Park - Plumbing store (near PJ's or Minyon's) & Peckman Lincoln Mercury.

Now all we get from our politicians is something State or Fed funded for the welfare & Section 8 class. They do nothing but exist off Gov't. handouts themselves & seek re-election. Useless.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, posters; and kudos for not one (yet) snarky, angry post about how the 'machine' is responsible for running another Mckeesport business out of town. I was not a big fan of Chicks', neither the food nor the staff; but any local establishment is missed by at least a small portion of the community. Best of luck to all involved; and let's hope we soon start to see some new businesses pop up in town. How about finishing that 'shell' at the bottom of Long Run Road, for starters?

It is sad that legitimate business cannot seem to thrive in McKeesport without big corporate backing.....and even then, many big-backed stores have closed.

Bummer. I only ate their once, but I liked the food and atmosphere for a quick bite for lunch.

Chick's was the one place I actually went to in the Port. Food was good, and the staff always treated me and my family well there. It will be missed. I was told the landlord was jacking the rent tot he point they could not stay in business. I hope they pop up somewhere else. Olympia would be good.

Interesting.

Back before summer time the daycare that used to be in the back of the building next door (to Chick's left) went out of business because that landlord was looking to clear out the building and kicked them out so as to allow Chick's to expand (presumably from tearing down the building in question....?)...I guess THAT plan is gone.

There are not enough dollars spent in McKeesport to keep businesses open. Fact. "Jacking the rent" is not the reason these places went under. More like not enough money coming in the door. Look for a grocery store to close next.

Why do think Benito left Olympia?-- Answer: Jacking up the rent and reluctance to keep up the building.

If Mckeesport keeps losing businesses at this rate there are going to be a lot of vacant buildings that weren't vacant last year. The Port is bleeding to death.

Really hate to see the fall of McKeesport - but it's been circling the drain for years. Been saying it for years - it's the Greater Braddock Area . Corrupt Democrat politics destroyed Braddock - their mill is still there.

The loss of our biggest employer is secondary to our corrupt Democrats & their surrender of the city to Section 8 & HUD that now control them
thru the freebie handouts. Nothing can recover when those at the top do nothing but take of themselves & their cronies & only work when election time rolls around.

The Port lost 4000 from 2000 to 2010 and the trend seems to be increasing. How much longer can the tax payer support such a large work force?

They doubled the rent on them. I would have left to. Owner of building said he had someone that was willing to pay it if they didn't. Guess we'll see. Good luck to chicks, hope you find your own place sometime soon. Always had a nice time there. Best of luck to them.
