Why? Why do we need bus service? We don't. All it's doing is keeping the lowlifes in towns like Glassport, McKeesport, and Clairton. Without bus service, they have to move somewhere else. Glassport has become a dropping off point for other towns miseries and troubles.

Why should all the hard working people who work have to suffer the consequences of section 8 slumlords. If you're going to drive the undesirables out drive out the section 8.

Get a taxi, move to a town that has bus service, or move to Pittsburgh. Then you have no problems. If you move to Pittsburgh, you'll have a shorter commute and can sleep longer. Problem solved. I think the taxpayers are fed up with taxpayer funded/subsidized transportation that's abused by 75% of the people who use it. You may be in the 25% who truly need it, but I don't want my tax money funding the other 75%.
Do you think the T in the better neighborhoods is only used by the people you complain about? When was the last time you parked in downtown Pittsburgh for the day? Why would anyone pay $30 bucks a day? I'm a McKeesport business owner, and when I need to be in Pittsburgh for more than two hours, I take a bus.

Pittsburgh is the only metropolitan areas where public transportation is considered scummy. Other major cities realize the benefits.

port authority has been operating in the red for at least 10-15 years, how long cAN any business operate at that kind of loss unless the tax payers keep bailing them out year after year.... must be nice. it' like filing for bankruptcy over and over and over.........port authority should of folded many many years ago.but then again the union goons would be protesting for more money and benefits..

Unions. Geez lets discuss the root of PAT problems. Unions are antiquated and are the burden on all the tax payers. PAT needs to go under, get rid of the union for good, and open a new transportation system without a union.

...who will put routes in only the most desirable neighborhoods, which ironically have the least ridership. A private company will jack up the fares whenever and as often as they like, which will include the T.

I'm not defending PAT, but the alternative isn't perfect.

The politics of Allegheny County & Pittsburgh are likely a bigger problem than the unions . Raise the rates , not our taxes . Why is it out problem to provide cheap transportation for everyone ? If it costs most $25 to $35 dollars for parking & gas to drive - charge the bus riders $20 per round trip per day . They still save money .

i remember years ago i was sitting in the back of the bus trying to rub one out and the bus driver caught me and made me stroke on his manhood ( while he pulled over to the side of the road ) we both came all over the back window of the bus.
he headed back to the pat garage to get some windex and sanitizer

========== Exactly . Not the corrupt, connected , same old politicians huh - guess again. Just like the Stadium Tax & the Casino hype - what's it done for the taxpayer's . No wonder working people are escaping Allegheny County . Makes more room for their Section 8 plans .

Get rid of the unions, get rid of the bloated retirement packages, get rid of redundant govt positions, cap the benefits of admins, and other perk packages, and an oversight committee is needed.

my brother was an english school teacher at south allegheny for over 39 years he had his masters for 35 of those years, he retired last year with a nice pension of 70K a year, plus he had about 340K in his 401K plus cd's and ira's and other investments.

he pays almost nothing for his healthcare
he will be eligible for his SS.. he will turn 66 next january. he told me he'll get about 2,800 a month from them. he just wants to thank the tax payers for contributing to his pension and healthcare all these years
he smiles alot these days and not a worry at all
he plans to tour italy and greece next year with his wife.

he cares about unions and backs them 100%....even while on strike the teachers get paid,,,thats what i call a union !!
