The Democratic party could read a lot into a phone call between Rep Gergely and his chief of staff Melocchi . The lawyers are on it like a chinaman with a one armed bandit . Speaking from the other end of the state this is the kind of thing that gets pushed under the rug. You can steal from the American Legion , the Post office , multiple drunk driving arrests and if you're connected the story ends in the quietness of the city , town or borough where you don't make waves . I will be watching for the AG to come up with more recorded conversations than this one that won't get Rep Gergely convicted of any crime that would cause him jail time , loss of his job or pension . The State has a code of ethics much different from the people on this forum.
The phone conversation in itself shows a concern about a woman ( agent ) whose husband lose all their money on a poker machine ( made up story to lure people in )...why would a respectable family man and state rep have any connections with a scum crook that partakes in illegal gambling? There is no law that says giving away free "premiere" seats on a football field illegal many times over.......BUT one can determine what the conversation actually means. as per MG's conversation/" Maybe you guys can try to find the guy ( that gambled all his money away ) and identify him have him stopped, you know what I mean"..."before something becomes a problem"... end quote.....how does one interrupt that sentence? knock him off? beat him up? give him his money back?( hahaha ) You might read it one way and the AG and investigators might read it the other way..........PLUS the tone of the voices at the time, were they casual?, threatening? angry? happy ? pissed off? I havent heard the tapes have you?

Why would the AG even tap MG's phone ? Must be something there...

Just smells like a dead herring thats been laying on the beach for a week.. just my opinion.

I printed most of those out so I have it in book form . The things I mentioned are the ones I know about . The American Legion, Post office , my ex rep Joe B ? For every one that falls there are more to pick up the banner of corruption . There are others not mentioned in your cut and paste . Good reference but it isn't up to date yet . Pa is an ongoing story of corruption .

I think I alluded to the same thing you mentioned . If this is all the AG has I don't think it's enough .

The AG did not tap MG's or JB's phone. The phone number of Pork Chop was tapped. Both incoming and outgoing were recorded.

I believe most people (not all) have a price. You raise a very valid concern. I've often wondered, and asked of those in law enforcement in the 'port, how in the hell can the same drug dealers operate for years on end with little to no concern for getting busted? Many of us know who these people are, the cops know who they are, elected officials know who they are ... it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to set up a sting and get these pushers of poison off the street for good. WHY does this go on? Perhaps you're on to something here or perhaps the city and local law enforcement is that clueless when it comes to HOW to take these drug dealers down. I do know the ego of some elected officials and city and civic leaders will never allow them to ask for outside help. They'd rather allow the problems to continue. Just my humble opinion ...
Mckeesport is in a downward spiral like Detroit where crime goes on and drugs suck you in a death plunge that you can't get out of . There aren't enough jails or initiative to clean up an act that never ends . "allow the problems to continue" is like waiting for the druggies to OD . End of problem .

I would hope that Gergely also informed investigators about his conversation with Porky. Gergely could have placed an innocent person in harm's way by playing both sides of the fence.
Just suppose their was a heavy, losing gambler with a wife by the name of Barb. A case of mistaken identity could have proven fatal.

Gergely still has a lot of explaining to do.

Gergely still has a lot of explaining to do.
A Pennsylvania state lawmaker caught on a wiretap talking to a suspected gambling ringleader today released a statement saying he cooperated with investigators and donated contributions from the accused kingpin to a group that fights gambling addiction.

Rep. Marc Gergely, D-White Oak, also said he directed his staff to give a purported constituent who complained about the suspect's gambling machines phone numbers for the authorities.

That statement somewhat seemed to contradict what Mr. Gergely was recorded telling Ronald "Porky" Melocchi in a November phone call, when he said he would not pass the woman's complaint along to the authorities.

Mr. Gergely's four-paragraph statement was emailed this afternoon to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette by the House Democratic Caucus Legislative Communications Office.

"I received a letter from a woman who claimed to be my constituent, stating that her husband had gambled away all their money on illegal video poker machines and asking for help," Mr. Gergely said in the statement.

According to the statement, Mr. Gergely asked his staff to research the matter, then to contact her to offer phone numbers for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement.

"I also directed staff to provide her with the phone number for Gamblers Anonymous," Mr. Gergely said in the statement. "Unfortunately, several attempts by my staff to reach this 'constituent' were unsuccessful, because her voice mail was never set up."

It was unclear whether Mr. Gergely planned to answer questions. It was not known whether the lawmaker personally wrote the statement. And the statement did not address Mr. Gergely's relationship with Mr. Melocchi, whose business Back Alley Vending was targeted by the Pennsylvania attorney general's office, or the recorded conversation.

This whole deal may prove fatal for some persons named in the presentment but not arrested . Cops in uniform placing numbers bets ? Sounds like where I work . Huge gambling investigation ,no arrests . I thought it was on the up and up til I was called in and asked what I knew . Nada , never played a number , never did and never will .

"How do you separate what good the cops do in the neighborhood against the small time arrests that were made onto the same cops " ?
It's called being a dirty cop that learns to look the other way by falling to the ills of accepting dirty money . It looks only slightly worse for a cop in uniform being part of an organized criminal gang but a State Representative only comes in a little less dirty because he has access to the best crooked lawyers in the State and usually gets a first time offenders sentence and a discounted padded sentence for how long and how much money he collected from the crime syndicate .

The dates are impotant when Gergely actually attempted to correct a damning telephone call . If he did it after knowing he was implicated with Malocchi / jigs up.

Campaign donations from crooks made to Democratic legislators were sent to charities ? What happens to the campaign money from illegal gambling sources (lobbyists) that aren't used for campaign purposes ?

Doesn't sound like anything legal to me . Whether or not there was legislation passed for the favorable money from lobbyists or they looked the other way when the mob was active . Isn't much difference .

Nice try Representative. The late Mayor Bendel let you get away with considerable missing funds from the Palisades.

But the good late mayor is not around to run interference for you this time.

If justice prevails there a high probability that your name may grace an indictment like the senator's names graces buildings and monuments in the Port.

Quite a bit can be read between the lines about the known taped conversations . I hope they have more on who gambled over phones on the lottery and games . Sort of like the johns being arrested for soliticing prostitutes. Also how does one go about buying one armed bandits ? This mess should get bigger . For any who think it wasn't doing any harm, the next step up the crime ladder would have been drugs and may already be there ?

Mayor Return Money

The mayor should not give the $4050 to a chartable institution.

He should return it to the Pork Chop who is essentially unemployed at this time and needs the money.

Too bad that Mikey and Jimmy could not find him a job with the MHA, MACM or the City with medical benefits. It is demeaning for person with his business astuteness to work as a security guard.

Hush, Hush Mikey, with his contacts Pork would have been an excellent candidate for the CD director position. Did you forget that the Pork Chop was always there when you and Jimmy needed him.

What a way to treat a friend in need of a real job.

I don't trust any career politicians of EITHER party - BUT - this somewhat verifies my nearly 8 years of ranting about the corrupt Democratic party that has completely destroyed this entire Mon-Valley. Don't blame the loss of a tax base , don't blame US Steel closing plants . Prime example is Braddock - the corrupt politicians killed that town years before the plants closures . And guess what - ET is still operating & the town has a socialist like Obama for a mayor & it's still a hole. Unfortunately due to lazy, inept, money hungry, corrupt democrats that are now feeding off of welfare & section 8 - THE WHOLE FREAKIN VALLEY HAS BECOME THE GREATER BRADDOCK AREA. I hate to say I told you so - but the AG proves me correct.
