Seriously. What will a new police station mean to combating the growing crime and drug problem in this town? Nothing! Our town leaders think the way to address the crime problem by adding fancy things like crime watch meetings and a new quarter million dollar police station rather than more police and high resolution cameras in key areas around town. I mean, really, what in the hell are they going to put in a $250,000 police station for Glassport? A Dunkin Donut drive thru so the police can get a coffee and donut on the run? A direct line to Mama Pepinos so the police don't have to look up their phone number to call in their lunch order? Sleeping quarters for our men in blue so they won't get caught by the local newspaper sleeping in the coffee shop? This is a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money. Again. Now it's happening with Rosemary, Kowalski, and DeSue. Anybody see the common denominator of which name is involved in every controversial or stupid decision this town makes and has been for the last 10 plus years?

Mayor Bradley, Council President Kowalski, you both have disappointed me. You are no better, and may turn out to be far worse, than what we just got rid of. You have let the citizens and the voters of this boro down.

The Police are well deserving of a new Station. Absolutely no one should have to work in conditions like that. That Station was condemned years ago. Its terrible and every citizen should be ashamed that we treat our Officers in that manner. Shame on us.

If the borough building was condemned 30 years ago, as Shrubbery said. Why wasn't it replaced back then? That's when the population was at least twice the size it is now. That tax base could afford it.

~~~~~~~~~~
Glassport statistics for 2012 show.
Source: http://www.city-data.com/poverty/poverty-Glas...
27.9% of Glassport's population is poor and disabled. You have Persons 65 years and over at 19.03%
Source: http://censusviewer.com/city/PA/Glassport
That's a total of 46.93%.
Now lets add the 7% unemployment rate to Glassport. The population is 4,470 in (2012). 4,470 - 93%= 312.9 citizens unemployed. That's not including the underemployed or the people who gave up looking because they just can't find a job.
So the bottom line is here: 46.93% are poor, disabled and over 65.
Another 313 (rounded) are unemployed, not including the underemployed or the ones who can't find a job.
That brings the total to 2059 (rounded) citizens. But that figure also includes non-working age children.
The median household income for Glassport is $31,421.
Source:http://www.city-data.co m/poverty/poverty-Glassport-Pe nnsylvania.html
So basically half the population of Glassport is either on a fixed income, unemployed, or not employed.
Sure remodeling the borough building MIGHT be nice. But, can we afford it right now on BORROWED money? NO!
We have more important things to worry about, like the DEP mandate.
They put the tax payers in this mess. Now we have to BAIL them out? BULL. It all comes back to RESPONSIBILITY.
That's what this town is running on. The MILLION DOLLAR LOAN! Which should of NEVER happened in the first place. If you're BROKE, you shouldn't borrow money to pay your bills. THAT'S STUPID. That's like living off of credit cards.
I can't wrap my head around this. I've been a business owner for over two decades. I would NEVER borrow money if I was BROKE. Nor would I expect the bank to loan it too me.
The federal government, utility, mortgage companies, creditors, etc.. expect you to pay your bills on time. It's doesn't make economic or financial sense to borrow money to pay your debts. That's robbing Peter to pay Paul. Sooner or later it comes back to bite you in the BUTT.
I believe it. They have been saying that for years. So, my guess would be it's one of the original "good ol' boys that made that statement.
My point is instead of copping out. As Shrubbery stated, and as I've been saying for years. Open up a town meeting, and/or a dialog with electronic media to answer the HARD questions.
See the issue is, they want to control the questions and answers. They want everyone to come down to their domain, the "council meeting." So if they don't like the question, they can either ignore it, or tell you to sit down and shut up.
That's why they're having low to NO attendance at the council meetings. We are tired of being pushed around by goons. They're suppose to serve US, not the other way around.
They don't want to answer the HARD questions because their tail is going to get caught in the wringer. That's why they REFUSE to do an OPEN DIALOG.
That's BS if they are telling you to sit down and shut up ( your time is up or you ask a question that is not public record) that too is a cop out !!
Your normal excuse !
They cant take away your freedom of speech, NEVER! the majority of people don't attend meeting cause they are afraid to speak up or did you ever think people just don't care?
bottom line is only a hand full of people are concerned about the way things are going in the boro ( maybe 4 people, in which 3 probably post in here ) I don't see you at meetings mouthing off, WHY NOT? lets start with you oh brave one......why don't you attend meetings? but you expect others to attend and mouth off. you mouth off in here..........that's your style you want others to do your dirty work, it aint gonna happen.........
sorry but im not a politician just a tax payer that knows how the system works, as long as the majority votes on anything I have no recourse of action to take except to vote them out next time, and I do remember who votes for what.
meetings are a joke and if you attend them you would know. I can only voice my opinion at the voting poll. people know this. if you elect 7 people to run the whole town then so be it.. as far as I can see no one is breaking the law maybe stretching it out some but not breaking any laws...... this I know.......according to no shame she always states they are all criminals, she needs schooled as far as what they can get away with. she hasn't a clue
Because no one forced them out of the building. If you were tight with the right people strings were pulled. I often wondered what would have happened if there was a fire and someone was hurt. Our present mayor was the Borough Secretary at the time, she could probably shed some light on the subject.
There also was a issue for years as the council chambers was not handicap accessible. That was eventually remedied with the borough office moving to the library.
I believe the proposed police station funds will come by the way of a grant $250,000 seems as it is a lot of money but realize how much will go in to engineers, architecs and lawyers pockets before 1 shovel full of dirt is moved. I would bet it would be between $35 and $50,000!
Did the borough ever consider the old Rite Aid building for their offices?
All I have to say about this is, FIGURES! More underhanded, illegal case of a nod, a wink, and the "SECRET MONEY" handshake. The corruption of this town SICKENS me.
wtf? they dont need a 250,000 dollar taj majhal! all they need is a small building with 2 desks, a bathroom, and maybe 2 cells. they arent living in the building for gods sake. they should be out and about around the boro not sitting on the computer at the station. 250,000 dollars for a new police station is bs. eminent domain the jet computer building next to the credit union, take off the top half of the building and gut the inside out, put in the two cells/bathroom and maybe 2 desks. keep the windows in front so people can look in and see what the hell they are doing in there, pave the lot next to it for police business parking. maybe 50,000 in renovations and paving total. guess what? with the police on the main street in the publics eye 24/7 there won't be any loafing in the station or any kind of hanky panky going on down there. the boro clowns will end up building the station back behind the honor roll and we'll never see the cops. they'll all be hiding out in the new police palace. dumbest idea ever!!!
And in the past I have seen as little as 4 people there...so tell me the tax payers are outraged......
they are and have been. look at how they voted the bums out of office. dont underestimate the voting public just because they dont attend council meetings.
Do you think voting in a town like this or running for a seat in a town like this means anything, you're sadly mistaken. This is GLASSPORT, not McKeesport or Pittsburgh. Grow up, it could be like Munhall.
