McKeesport football over the past 15 years has been dominate. But now is just one of the many weak teams in the eastern conference. Hiring jim Ward was on big politcal mistake and stunt by the mckeesport school board. And now it is really making them look stupid for hiring such an in-experienced and unqualified coaching staff. To only score 7 points and 14 points on teams like latrobe and norwin is pitiful. Ward says in the paper that they are improving each week. Really? because it looks like they are getting worse, there is no discipline at all! I feel bad for the players, its not fair to them, that the mckeesport school board is over flexing their muscles. but dont worry, election day is coming and hopefully none of them get re-elected. I been going to Mckeesport football games for 20 years and i think i may start following a different high school team.

I'm wondering just how good Central Catholic is. They must be REALLY good because Gateway, wich has been improving weekly, got whipped on Thursday night by CC. I can't see the Tigers offense scoring on Gateway at all in two weeks so it looks like the season is almost over. Maybe one week in the playoffs tops. Your thoughts WPIAL Wizard.

McKeesport Sb needs to make admends with Smith and his coaching staff to see if they will come back.Maybe they will let the coaches that are there stay on and they could learn how to coach Mckeesport kids .They may also learn the coaches in Mckeesport teach kids about life not just football. They made their students respect there community and the people in it.They made the kids be humble, thats a lesson that this coaching staff needs. They walk around with their heads in a cloud and talk down to people.
You may see alot of kids leave McKeesport and head to Serra.

You could never be so wrong. Ward is doing a great job. Smith is not coming back. They are running a mixture of offenses and defenses which are successful, and the players are no different now than when George Smith coached. Don't worry about them going to Serra either because they couldn't afford the tuition. Eckels and his cronies bailed out and nobody misses them. The team will be just fine.

Mckeesport will not score against gateway.gateway is not the power they usually are, how ever it will not take much effort on their part to keep a struggling mckeesport offense from scoring. Central catholic will win the wpial title this season. I'm predicting they will beat woodland hills at heinz field. Mckeesport may not get past the first round. As for the comment about eckels, that was the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, mark my words serra will be a powerhouse in 2 years. Eckels is probably one of the best offense coordinators in the wpial

As a season ticket holder for years, I'm not so sure how long my wife & I will continue to be. I used to love bragging about Tigers football to co-workers,
The Tigers are 6-1 by luck. Not taking anything away from the kids, because they have great athletes and always have. To get 15 penalties a game is ridiculous. It's got to be the coaching, or lack of. No discipline by the coaches, etc.....

Coach Jim Ward went what, 4-36 @ Yough over the years he was there ? Lets not have him ruin the Tigers tradition. Sooner or later, the pipeline will run dry and I'm not so sure that this coach knows how to used what he's got here.

When was Eckels designated one of the best offensive coordinators in the WPIAL? What recognitions has he received? Maybe we missed something during his tenure at Tiger Country.

Eckels established the flex bone triple option at mckeesport, and it was probably one of the best offenses around. It was definitly well known across pa and the country that mckeesport s triple option was great and difficult to stop. When someone mentioned mckeesport football, the first thing to mind was the flex bone offense. Now its known for a political disgrace.

It's shame that Eckels wasn't credited for the flex bone. All the honors and recognition go to Coach George Snith.

To anyone that downgrades Jamie Eckles I say SHUT UP!!!! The man was one of the biggest reasons McKeesport won 2 yes that's 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! He is a dedicated coach, tutor and mentor to every kid he has ever coached. He is beloved by all his players and knows more about the game of football than anyone who posts here!!! If it wasn't for corrupt politics, Coach Smith would of retired on his own terms when he was ready and Coach Eckles would of been the PERFECT REPLACEMENT when the time came and the program would of just kept rolling along. I wish Coach Ward the best of luck for the sake of the kids, but McKeesport Football has been set back by the politicians!!! Good Luck to the Tigers and GOOD LUCK COACH ECKLES, Serra will soon be a team that is feared by all others in class A

I too wish Ward all of the luck in the world. He does have good coaches on his staff and should do OK. It does take time to put in a new system. If there is one thing that bothers me is how he botched the handling of the Quarterbacks. Young Bryant Harper has left the team. He should have been the starter, running the flex, all along.

That being said, Jim Ward is NO George Smith. His hiring stinks of nepotism and cronyism and all those that supported such an obvious political hire should be banished from ever holding elected office again. Who was the mental midget that orchestrated this move? Could it be Holtzman? Yeah, he cares about the kids. Maybe it's time HE got on with his life's work.

McKeesport fans have been spoiled by the teams put out there by Smitty, Eckels, Hampton, Harper, Starry, McCall, Mantich etc.(sorry to those I left out!) That had to be one of the best staffs in WPIAL history! Obviously with two state championships, they were winners.

What I liked most about Smitty and his staff was that they taught kids about life and how to become men. The list is endless of the kids that have gone through the program and onto college careers and successful and contributory lives.

Smitty will always be the coach to me. If Ward falters, and he is stumbling, let's promote a McKeesport guy that bleeds Red and Blue!

Didn't Eckels attend Serra High School (red and gold Eagles), instead of McKeesport High School (red and blue Tigers)?

Maybe he was referring to Eckels returning to his "alma mater?" Just a guess. I really don't know, but that's what I am assuming.

I just wanted to say McKeesport football is soooo different. We all know football is something everyone loves here in McKeesport the tigers are what we all enjoy. The new coaching staff needs to learn what is important here, we love to win but we love our players and children more. Discipline is a MUST with our boys and guess what they don't mind discipline as long as it is a cross the board it doesn't matter if you are one the the three stars or the water boy. The new coaching staff needs to understand we teach our children respect and to stand up for what they believe in. Then they see favoritism he will make that resent the coaching staff. Coach Smith ALWAY treated our children as one and taught they how to work and respect everything, learn from that. Coach Ward told us that he didn't want to break tradition but their is no tradition left.

High school football is high school football. You win, you lose. We all move on. It don't really matter who the coach is. It is a stage in life. Something to reflect back on.
