All are problems. Once Shelly takes office, most if not all will be eliminated.

Jimmy inherited many of these problems and even I can't understand why he hasn't addressed some of them more seriously. I agree with many that Section 8 is a huge problem here. Jimmy didn't bring HUD to town but as the Mayor and Chairman of the Housing Authority he should be doing more to limit the negatives associated with public housing in our city.

Personally, I am sick of the drugs and violence. Jimmy has always been good with kids. He has to see that McKeesport has gotten a more dangerous place to be a child on his watch. If I were Jim, that is where I'd focus my two remaining years.

Maybe he should think about bringing Shelly into the fold to focus on this issue. Like the guy or not, nobody can question his smarts and his concern for the kids of McKeesport. My problem with Paul is that he at times seems scattered on too many issues. If someone could focus all of his energy and passion in one direction, he'd be great for McKeesport.

Good sensible post. I believe most of our present day politicians are afraid to speak up on Section 8 for fear of losing gov't. money. And truthfully face the facts, all those in the right positions do personally benefit by pinching some money here or free contractor work there. Do they actually think that after all these years & all the contractors used that these stories haven't been told. A complete overhaul of City Gov't. from Lou
until today is the only way to even 'START' the clean-up. Plus eliminate the 'communist full control' of having city employees or officers serving in any other capacity.

Paul Shelly is "the guy" to implement just such reform. That's why they bash him. An honest man that can't be bought is bad for "business".

The Mayor told me that Paul is a good guy but that he has mental health problems. I've been reading his posts and his blogs and I don't see it. Is it possible that the Mayor was just swift boating Paul?

But temper tantrums like a spoiled 6 year old isn't an issue ? Or screaming at people when you lack the ability to reply with an honest, sensible
answer is OK ? The Napolean Syndrome isn't a
phsycological defect ? I'm just stunned that you would actually think that the Mayor of a booming,
metropolis like McKeesport, Pa. would actually resort to lies & smear tactics, he said jokingly.
Actually, I don't ever remember seeing an 'honest
mayor' here in my lifetime.

I won't comment on that other than to say that we all have our strengths and weaknesses. In my own opinion, Joe Bendel was the best we've had in my adult life. He was prepared for the job and innovative with his ideas. By the same token, Joe could be a wee bit stubborn and did a few things I adamantly disagreed with. Joe's biggest accomplishments were the Marina, Trail and EchoStar as Mayor. His biggest legacy has to be the drafting of our Home Rule Charter. Unlike others, I see clarity and fairness in its words. All Mayors should honor his work there. Not all do. If we could only find a judge that could read... ;)

Peace.

Mr. Lightning,

You make very good points. Are you trying to put me out of business? It does seem that the Mayor of Mckeesport has anger management issues. Someone with a much calmer disposition that listens to and respects all the people would be better suited for the position.

Maybe someone who actually knew how to get to the corner of Jenny Lind and Packer would make a better Mayor? Somebody should get Brewster Rooster a map of our inner city so he can find it nex time.

Thanks for noticing. So were a lot of good citizens. I was VERY impressed with the job law enforcement did. Nobody was hurt, they went about their job methodically with great concern for public safety.

If the guys were on duty anyway, just a few tear gas containers, a flash bank or two and some ammo.
