How long do you think the supermarket is going to last ? I give it
a year . The products they sell cater to an ethnic group that is virtually nonexistent in Mckeesport .

Yeah, probably some front for drugs. No market for the product, must be selling drugs. In the past Chinese Restaurants have been busted for it. They know its safe in McKeesport because of bar room talk.

Where on Fifth Avenue?

Is this one of JB's 150 new businesses?

Why do you complain about the lack of McKeesport businesses, and at the same time condemn a new business that opens in McKeesport sight unseen?

Just because the "ethnic group" is barely a blip on the census tract, doesn't mean local folks won't find a reason to shop there.

Have you ever shopped in the "ethnic" shops in the strip, Bloomfield, etc?

if you did, you'd know that their shelves usually carry spices and products from a host of countries. They're usually quite accommodating when it comes to customer requests, too.

They've taken a chance on the city of McKeesport. Why don't you give them a chance in return?

I see my original post was judged as mean and I agree . I should not be so negative it's a bad habit .

The name of the store is Mei Dong Asian Market located at 228
5th Avenue and I wish them success at their location in Mckeesport .

I've been in there, it's a nice little place and the owners are very helpful and friendly. My daughter makes Bento Boxes and loves sushi, and they carry everything she needs so she and I will be shopping there frequently. No more traveling to Bloomfield and that's a good thing. Their store is clean and well organized. Give it a try.

One or a few buyers of the product? You can wish them well but if they sell drugs expect success. Many foreign businesses are polite when making money off drugs. It's part of the culture to smile while collecting a profit. Everyone on drugs is happy when no one checks into them.

Most Chinese restaurants were cordial, polite, smiled before arrested. One restaurant kicked all the customers out as staff was getting arrested at the same time! The restaurant was called Jade, and served Chinese food. You want to be friendly, but hopefully not naive.

Every business in McKeesport isn't on the take or selling dope. OMG, is that how bad it is? That's what people really think? No wonder no one wants to open up here. Jeeze.

The vast majority of these "foreign businesses" are run by honest, proud people who believe that if they work hard they can improve their lot in life.

As a 2nd generation American, it's what I've witnessed and experienced my whole life, and something I admire greatly in others.

Maybe you've never seen that. Or you've just forgotten it. Perhaps you simply look for the worst in people or situations and celebrate the flaws and failures in others. I don't know.

What I do know is that I will patronize this new business. And when they smile at me as they collect their profit, I'll give them a smile in return.

I think you just want to fight and like it, your still complaining? You refuse to understand I refuse to be naive. It's not flaws in others and you do know, you like to be opposite to argue just because. You like being rude to people trying to be nice to make them a problem. We do know. You make targets, its you.

Never knew it was there, who drives on 5th thru McKeesport anymore ? I'll stop in & get a few items & make my own decisions . I wish them luck .

At least it won't likely be packed with welfare access card users at the beginning of every month. That is what keeps most people out of local stores if you want the honest truth.

You sure they don't take Access? It's in the dirty part of McKeesport, hard to expect much. How many McKeesporters not on welfare will buy ethnic? Most are into hoagies, gyros, pizza, Italian food. It's worth a try and I wouldn't fault anyone trying to be honest. I don't expect much of the location even of honest. Most businesses of the area experience crime of some kind. Basically, even of you like them and no drugs how do they succeed? You'd have to change your diet, this area is set in its taste.

They'd be set of in Pittsburgh, more of a melting pot. If a honest business, its theft they will have to watch for too. Businesses I know in the area said they do not get police support. Of course, that Big Dollar store by Donut Connection said the same. GetGo moved due to lack of police support against crime. The manager told me, citing it as the main reason they left McKeesport.

Pissburg is no better , just more political whores with their hands out for any business kickbacks like here . You missed my point, I 'would' shop the Asian Market 'because' of the probability the welfare 'hot pocket' eatin crowd WON'T be there buying anything.

It would mean they would have to set down the crack pipe or mess up their manicure to actually prepare a decent meal for the kiddies, much easier to let the school or project centers feed them.

Yeah, I think I did get it. Let us know. Most think it would be more difficult to success if they don't. It's McKeesport, welfare is everywhere. Those on drugs probably won't around to buy or prepare food is true. But, I think they steal as part of a habit from anywhere.

Sad part is they may need to hire security because thieves. Several stores in that area told me they have trouble with thieves. Even the dollar store, if you can believe that!

It's in a poor location, bound to close. A few Topix shoppers cannot save it.

Aside from this, if they moved to Pittsburgh business would be better for them. Politics of Pittsburgh doesn't reflect business as it dies in McKeesport.
