A Sheriff that really knows his role, and is'nt afraid to do the job right. Sheriffs are our first line of defense against the way out of control feds. Support him, and do not buy any of the promises out of Washington, they will tell you anything and renig every time.

Controversy Surrounds Jackson County Sheriff's Department Over Funds

There was a major shake-up in Jackson County Tuesday, where LEX 18 was told the county fiscal court is trying to remove the sheriff from office because of a debt of nearly $300,000.

At 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Jackson County Police Department had a new force sworn in as county officials question the sheriff's handling of money. County judge William Smith says the Sheriff's Department owes the county nearly $300,000. LEX 18 was told that deputies stopped getting paid a month ago when the county government decided to stop lending money to the sheriff's department to cover their payroll.

Sheriff Denny Peyman says it has become much more expensive to patrol the county. "We have more coverage now than we've ever had and it costs." he said. "People want it, but the funds aren't there to make that."

The county government is issuing several emergency executive orders, one of them to claim the sheriff's bond, which would effectively remove him from office, and the county hopes will pay for the thousands of dollars of debt.

The sheriff is still in office for now, however. LEX 18 was told that all but one of his deputies are on the new county controlled police force.

Judge-Executive: Sheriff's Office owes county nearly $300,000

McKEE, Ky.(WKYT)- The Jackson County Fiscal Court and the Sheriff's Office are at odds.

"It's obvious that something's not operating as it should," said Judge-Executive William Smith.

When asked if there was anything improper going on under his command, Sheriff Denny Peyman had a short answer, "No, sir!"

But the Fiscal Court is so concerned they formed a new Jackson County Police Department made up of three of Peyman's four deputies. Fiscal court officials say one didn't pass a drug test. Peyman is still the sheriff. They say his office owes the fiscal court more than $278,000 in payroll assistance from when he took office in January 2011 until this past August.

"There are a number of reimbursements that he receives that somehow didn't make their way to the fiscal court," said Judge-Executive Smith.

"I haven't heard it," he said when asked if the sheriff had given a reason. Sheriff Peyman told WKYT his office has been doing more law enforcement and that costs more money.

"If you want to talk dollar amounts, when it comes back, I think you'll be surprised at what it is. It's not what they say it is," said Sheriff Peyman.

Judge-Executive William Smith wants the state auditor or attorney general to investigate Peyman. He said everyone needs to be investigated.

"I was the one that called the FBI in. I was the one that called for the audit to come back. I say if we're going to expose it, we're going to expose it all. There are criminal charges we're looking at after talking with the FBI and with the attorney general's office, so they've asked me not to say much about that," said Peyman.

"Within your department?" asked WKYT reporter, Sean Moody.

"Within the whole system here. The local government, some in my own department," said Peyman.

The fiscal court also filed a claim against the sheriff's public official bond, which he must have to hold office. They also said all calls to Jackson County dispatch will now go to the new Jackson County Police Department.

Jackson County wants probe of sheriff's office

MCKEE, Ky.- The head of an eastern Kentucky local government is asking for an investigation into the sheriff's office.

Jackson County Judge-Executive William Smith told WYMT-TV in Hazard the county fiscal court has had to cover Sheriff Denny Peyman's payroll since he took office in January 2011. Smith said the department owes the court more than $278,000.

The fiscal court wants state auditors or the state attorney general's office to investigate the sheriff's office.

However, Peyman said he has asked both state and federal authorities to investigate not only his office, but all Jackson County government. Peyman said he has increased enforcement, which has raised the cost of operating his office.

The court has formed the Jackson County Police Department, which employs three of the sheriff's deputies.

Yeah not to mention the woman he is with. The flower child. The very one that you would find all over the county backed in sitting beside the road waiting to recieve money for her services. Not to mention she has been in and out of jail for drugs several times and Denny would go visit her in jail, where she would get special treatment. So yeah lets support a man who this county clearly has no respect for!

People please wise up. The Government ,State or Federal, will never knock on your door and ask for your guns. They will make it a crime to own certain kinds of weapons and we will become federal criminals if we own such a weapon.
The next thing they will freeze all our government retirement, social security, bank accounts,, tax refunds and so forth until we comply with the law and turn them in.
They will have no need for the local law enforcement to assist them in this process, nor can the local law enforcement prevent it.
This is how the government took up the gold from the citizens in the 1800'.

There was no social security, retirement, or tax refunds in the 1800's, nor were there any taxes for politicians to blow and squander and threaten you with. This country fought and won several wars before there was taxes. It was high taxes and corrupt politics that our forefathers fought against when this country was founded. Could a revolution, civil war, or armed revolt be in this country's future?

this sounds logical but what we must think about is if the criminals confront us with their ak 47s an other machine type weapons against our small cal. hand guns and rifles they wont be needing thess gov. funds as they will as the jessie james, baby face nelson infamous breed were, takin what the pistol packing types have in their pockets i say raise school taxes and place armed security at the only entrance door and have all the fire exit doors impossible to open from the outside and, by the way, have this armed security on duty with an ak 47 and an ar 15 and wearing bullet proof clothing. pretty simple huh and yes, scan the students as they enter and no coming back thru the door after once leaving. this way they may learn something too while in classes

I have a prediction for Jackson County Citizens and their Sheriff Peyman. The Kentucky State Auditors office will release the audit in four weeks. It will contain pages of information where public was mis used . Sheriff Peyman will shout " ITs a conspiracy by the federal government because I stood up for the second amendment now they falesely accusing me. And if there really is anything missing...it was Sheila Clemmons. The rest of this mess was created by Judge Smith and blamed on me too Amen & God Bless" That is my predication Jackson County- just wait and see.
