Bet that we are the only county in the state that has IRS trouble.

Who made the decision to withhold the taxes fron the IRS????????? Was it the fisical court? Was it the judge? Is it in the fisical court minutes???? If this is part of the reason for the occupational tax, why was'nt it mentioned????

Who decided to keep the tax withholdings??????

When you do not pay IRS in a timely manner, they add pentiltes and interest to the account. These are not cheap. This money was withheld from the employees wages and there is no excuse not to send the money to the IRS This money did not belong to the fiscal court and they had no right not to send it in.

I think it's funny that in the article William O said it was a tough year and even mentioned the sheriff as part of the problem, but it looks like fisical court has not made a payment since 1st quarter of 2011 since our current sheriff had only been in office for 3 months was he referring to our past sheriff? Now they have not made a payement to the IRS in over a year, they haven't made a payement to the employee retirement in a year where is all the money???? I agree Honest Babe sounds like Action Group McKee needs to meet more often.

Maybe W.O. used the money to help pay the salaries of the 'Extra' employees they have at new jail, or to fund his police crew and remodel the old jail, or to help with 'extra' expenses for his daughter, or he needs a little extra padding for his 'Nest Egg' when he retires. I'm sure he has used those payroll deductions from our checks 'WISELY'.

If you watched the news this evening it was in McKee because of WO not paying the taxes to the IRS. Now what happened to the retirement pay that was suppose to be paid. What happen to the money that was taken out of the employees checks. Sounds like a little over 1/2 million dollars GONE BYE BYE. Who is paying for it the workers in Jackson County because WO thinks we don't have enough intelligence to figure it out

i guess you figured it out by now or maybe not this has been going on before this administration it just took this long to catch up wo and the others before thought they would shift the blame on the sherriff and that would give them a chance to catch up while everybody was looking at the sherriff guess what wrong somebody finally got sombodys attention at the government and they had to act now i just wonder where the money realy went we have a judge that bought alot of property and a ex sherriff that bought a farm harley corvette nice trucks kawasaki mules not counting all his child support hmmm! if you are really interested band together and find out where the money really went and why somebody hasnt went to jail all of this is felony charges and they are the ones needs to pay it back not the taxpayers.as long as you are afraid to stand up they will continue to get by and the tax payer will continue to foot the bill so it is up to you the taxpayers to put a stop to it so your move.

Some of these posts make it sound like some think a large amount of money is missing...as in it (the money) went somewhere.

Just curious, but what makes anyone think any amount of money went anywhere?

Unless the retirement funds are in a segregated trust earning interest, then they are breaking Ky law. I have posted the KRS multiple times, look it up on the retirement forum. If they have the money, then why not payout what needs to be paid out. Where do you think they are Honest Babe?

My post was in reference to the payroll taxes which haven't been paid to the IRS, not the retirement funds you are talking about.

As for the retirement funds, although the county could possibly be breaking some laws, I think the KRS you refer to pertains to the actual retirement account at Kentucky Retirement Systems being in a segregated account, not that a segregated account is maintained at the county level.

Again, why are some asking about where money went? As you said "if they have the money"...I think that is probably where the problem is, the fiscal court likely just doesn't have the money to send.

So far, the only thing I have seen (or heard) that sounds like a certain amount of money might actually be MISSING (as in unaccounted for) was on the audit of the sheriff for this year.

Maybe it will help to picture it like this...you have a $20 water bill,$80 telephone bill, and $250 electric bill. However, you only have $100 in your checking account, possibly because someone who owes you money hasn't paid you yet. Therefore you pay the water and telephone bill but do not send payment for the electric bill because you do not currently have the money. None of this means anyone stole $250 and went on a spending spree.

So, this would mean there is no need for you to worry where $250 might have went because you simply did not have the money to begin with.

. All county employees are cut federal taxes out of their pay. So these cut taxes should have been sent to IRS but thanks to county treasure fabulous lack of skills this didn't occur. So, can we file for a tx return?

So, say your paycheck is $1000 gross...do you think the county treasurer makes out a check for $1000, cashes it, then keeps the amounts which should be withheld for such as tax and retirement. Afterwards, the treasurer would then make you out another check for whatever amount is left after deductions?

Do you think maybe the county was able to scrape up enough money so you could cash your paycheck without it bouncing, but maybe they didn't have enough left over to send the proper amounts to IRS and KRS? That is entirely possible. Neither would it mean anyone stole any money.

However, if there is an audit showing money totally unaccounted for, as in no one has any idea where the negative amount is...then there is a possibility someone could have stole the money or spent it on something they should not have spent it on.

Yes, if a county employee receives a W-2 form they can file a federal and state tax return. The situation between the IRS and the county should not affect that. If a county employee does not receive a W-2 by 2/14, contact the IRS.
