<quoted text>How can he take care of his office when the judge exec fee pooled him. He has to turn every dime he brings in to fiscal court and then fiscal court pays his bills. The judge is refusing to pay his staff of two not only for the time they have worked but also any future work. So, your a smart babe, how can he run his office without a staff. He can't be in ten places at once. Can you not see that the judge is trying to push him out? You may not like him but this is wrong. The paper even reported today that the judge was basically lying on what the sheriffs amount owed is. There is over a hundred thousand dollars that the judge is saying he never recieved but the bank shows fiscal court cashed the checks from the S.O.
So half the posts on here are blaming Judge Smith for letting this go on for months, even thought there isn't a single reason in the world to suspect Judge Smith would have known anything was amiss, while the other half is blaming him for putting a stop to it when it came out during an audit that the sheriff's office was in the red.

As for how Peyman takes care of his office, that is his problem, not mine. If there is actually money MISSING from his office, perhaps he could consider taking it out of his own pocket and using it to hire some extra help to collect the property taxes he is responsible for collecting. Either that, or he could just work extra hard collecting them himself like many had to work extra hard for the tax money they paid in to run his office which is now ALLEGEDLY MISSING.

Further, I do not know why you would think or say I may not like Peyman. I have nothing against Peyman personally as I do not know him.

It may seem frustrating for the taxpayers, but that isn't the job of the people who do the audits. I can think of a Kentucky county that had what seems like a similar situation to this one in its sheriff's department, that was about three years ago and no one has been charged with anything yet.

Fee was audit not his last year, but the year before that. You don't remember people say that he bought turkey's for a bunch of people for Thanksgiving using the Sheriff's departments funds?

The funny thing is, Fee drove around the county showing legal paperwork showing judgements against Peyman and all the different companies were suing him for not paying his bills.

People still voted Peyman in and now money is missing.

And likely they never will. That is the root of a huge problem. No one with a badge or connected with a courthouse is ever held accountable for anything, anything! Run a search on your PC for corruption, cases dismissed. I got over 55 million on mine, pages with related topics. That is not a small number, yet on not one of those pages did it say anything about anyone being held accountable. Not one that I found!

Babe, I like you and don't know you but some of this post is just about as clueless as it gets. Nothing goes on in the courthouse for 22 months moneywise without being noticed. Try 2002-3 for your other question.

Fee also paid those funds back out of his own pocket!!

I do remember people saying Fee bought turkeys for his staff out of office funds. I also heard people say Fee paid back the money for those turkeys once it was brought to his attention that the expenditure was inappropriate as he should have done. Sounds like a simple mistake concerning what was allowable as an office expense to me.

So, which of Fee's audits showed $50,000-100,000 MISSING as was mentioned earlier?

http://apps.auditor.ky.gov/Public/Audit_Repor...

He overspent, which was corrected the next year i'm going to assume. Basically went over the budget. Just under $50k was overspent. The other audits don't show any over expenditures. So one might assume this was corrected. Pretty big difference in 50k for one year and 300k for a year and a half......

You are right, there is a very good chance no one will ever be indicted or held accountable for the money which is ALLEGEDLY MISSING from the sheriff's office. If a deficit amount shown by an audit is simply missing, as opposed to having been spent inappropriately or something of that nature, it would be very hard to pinpoint what actually happened to the money.

However, sometimes those with a badge and/or courthouse connections are held accountable. Two good examples which come to mind right off is the former Sheriff Hodge of Whitley County who was sentenced to federal prison and the Breathitt County Sheriff's office which was investigated by the Attorney General's office after a referral from the State Auditor. In the Breathitt County case it turned out it was the sheriff's daughter that was indicted for taking the money from the sheriff's office while she was employed there.

One thing I wonder about...in one of the Lexington news reports Peyman talked about a big investigation going on in the county including within his own office. I wonder who is supposed to be conducting this investigation? I would just about guarantee that neither the FBI nor the AG's office would comment, or inform Peyman, as to the status of any investigation of the local government.

If you are talking about taxes you pay in escrow to a mortgage company I wouldn't think you have a thing to worry about. You can bet the lender will make sure their interest in the property is protected by making sure taxes and insurance is paid. But, yes, if you are worried about it...ask whomever holds you tax money in escrow.

Are you saying Fee's 2002-2003 audit shows $50,000-$100,000 MISSING?

If you want to think I am clueless, that is your choice, it makes no difference to me one way or the other, LOL. I will stick to my original statement and say there isn't any reason whatsoever to think Judge Smith would have known, or should have known, what was going on with Peyman's finances.

That may seem clueless to you, but I have yet to see you provide any proof of your allegations that Judge Smith was aware of any problems with Sheriff Peyman's accounts. In fact, the audit of the sheriff's office last year didn't show any big problems as far as his fee account or tax account. Are you saying Judge Smith should have been aware of something even the auditors didn't catch?

It was Peyman's job to take care of his budget and his accounts, it wasn't Judge Smith's job to do so.

Thank you, and just as I thought, there were no reports of MISSING money in Fee's audits. MISSING money and going over budget or accidentally mixing up money in accounts are two entirely different things. The first is likely an honest mistake, the latter is in many cases a criminal act.

Here is a link to a news article concerning the sheriff's office I mentioned earlier that had a large sum of money MISSING for several years without anyone being charged.

http://hazard-herald.com/view/full_story/1550...

If anyone wishes to read the article it seems the judge executive of that county handled the matter much as the judge executive of this county is handling it.

However, as opposed to what some on here claim, very recently someone was finally held accountable for the MISSING money...

http://www.lex18.com/news/perry-county-sherif...

This type of thing doesn't only happen in Jackson County, LOL!

If the money was totally missing with no receipts as if the money was spent inappropriately. I can't tell you how many dollars I say Fee spend to put gas in non-government vehicles. His ex-wife Carrie drove that huge SUV and used to put almost $50 a pop on it once or twice a week. I also watched Fee come in and verify the purchase with his signature making it look like it was for his car.

Well then, in that case I suppose you should have done your civic duty and reported this information to the Attorney Generals office. In fact, perhaps you still can.

That's just it. In Jackson County, people don't normally speak up. Why? I personally don't want to become a target of every law enforcement individual in town. If I would have told someone about this, not only would I be rebuked by the person I report it to, but the news would spread and I would be a marked man. Once again another problem with small towns. One day one person knows your secret, tomorrow 500 people know, and by the end of the week everyone in the county knows.

Besides I don't own a Civic, I drive cars made in the U.S.A.!

Well sorry, but there isn't a thing I can do about it if the people in Jackson County are cowards that are afraid to speak up as you claim.

As for driving cars made in the U.S.A., many Honda Civics are made in the U.S.A., but I do not drive a Civic either.

G'night :)
