Played Foley in a scrimage Thursday. 7th grade is very stout. The 2 held backs were awesome and made a good team great. 8th showed very well also. If score was kept 7th won 28-0 and held Foley to -19 yds of offence. 8th would of lost 21-14 but had 2 touchdowns called back and out gained Foley. If 8th had a couple more players they will be even better. Both teams have 12 games. From what I see........7th grade 10-2 and 8th 8-4 and if add a couple of players 9-3. It is going to be a good year.

They played Estill Co. today. 7th grade won 32-0 behind a strong running game and stiff defense. Temperature's was in the high 90's. Estill wasn't able to move the ball against the Jackson's defense. 8th grade lost 30-0 mostly due to being tired and drained from the heat, since some 7th graders also play 8th grade. Score could of been alot closer if they were fresh. All 30 points by Estill was put up in the first half. In the second half Jackson held then to no points and held Estill to very little yards. They play again in 2 weeks and do encourage everyone to come out. It's the first home game of the year against Powell Co.

you know you could hire me as a private investigator to make sure that coaches are supplying the teams with adequate sources of water such as canteens or taking them to fresh watering holes several times a day or something. if interested give me a shout out

I do believe that the 7th grade class is going to the one that all other Jackson co past, present, and future classes are going to be measured by. They got size, speed, and heart. Including this year, the next 6 yrs is going to be fun with these boys. As one of the parents always says .... Go Colonels!!!

Played Powell Co yesterday. It was a home game. 8th grade lost 24-6. The game was alot closer than what the score indicates. Just had to many miscues. The big 73yrd TD run and the defense making some big stops were some bright spots.
7th grade won 22-0 behind a stong running game and tough defense. Powell's bread butter play is run up the middle, but couldn't do it against the huge defensive line of the 7th grade. Powell was forced to do everything to outside and they had couple of plays that worked in the first half, but just couldn't do anything in the 2nd. We just over powered Powell the entire game.
7th has perhaps one of its toughest games of the season next Saturday against Knox Central. That game will be played at Lynn Camp High School in Corbin time is TBA but my guess it will be around 12pm
8th also plays that day against Lynn Camp. This could be good chance for their first win if they keep the simple miscues down......

Played at Lynn camp yesterday. WHAT SHAFT JOB the refs and the Lynn Camp staff did. After a schedule change, without notice, we had to wait around 4hrs to play. 8th grade after getting down 14-0 fought hard and played even with Meese Middle School of Somerset. Final score ended up being 34-20. Every time we got something going the refs killed us with dumb founded penalties that was just to much to overcome.
7th grade started out strong quickly going up 8-0. Lynn Camps 7th grade after being held to negative yardage on their first 7 plays felt that it was better to play the rest of the game on the bench and put, as one Lynn Camp staff person said "6-8 8th graders," in. We ended up losing 12-8. All points were scored in the 1st quarter. Even with all those 8th graders in, they had a heck of a time moving the ball on us. I do really think that it is an absolute shame that it takes a team to cheat like that to try to win. Over the last 3 years Lynn Camp has done this. Last year they even had players with beards and that been playing middle school for 4-6yrs. We'll play them again anytime, anywhere. In the 3rd quarter we were driving the ball and were down on the 20yrd line when the refs hosed us good with 2 straight penalties.
Next game will be this coming Thursday when the 8th grade plays @ Science Hill. This game was just added.

JCMS Football 2009

The future is looking bright for football in Jackson County. Their effort and record speaks for themselves. In speaking with many opposing coaches and refs, they are amazed at how well our boys have done in so short of time, considering only a few have any sort of youth league experience. Teams know that we arenít a pushover for anybody, and weíll fight until the final second clicks off the clock.
I know the local papers only have so much room to cover all the news in Jackson County, so maybe we can mention some names on the net and help these young men get recognized for their efforts. It is amazing that Jackson County has had the success they have so far. It took Bishop Brossart High School over 2 years to notch their first victory, and Jackson County has accomplished more than that.
The entire team has continued to work and are getting better each day. The 8th grade is currently 0-3, but they shut out a very good Estill County team in the 2nd half, and the Powell County game came down to a few mistakes and miscues. We played Meece, one of the toughest teams in our area, very tough. It wasnít that Meece walked all over us, it was our mistakes that cost us again. Meece beat us by two touchdowns, and also Rockcastle County by two touchdowns, so that should tell this team and our community that we are swiftly closing the gap on the elite teams in our area. Considering we only have about seven 8th graders, and 3 of those are in their first year of playing, that is not bad at all. We pushed them all over the field, rushing for almost 300 yards, which is a huge accomplishment in Middle School Ball. The 7th grade shut out a very good Estill County and Powell County team. And despite several very questionable calls, and facing a team filled with 8th graders, we still nearly pulled out the win. A lot of our 7th graders play a lot of time on both the 8th and 7th squad.
The good news, bad news gist is that the miscues we are making are those of inexperience. The good news, is that we are making mistakes of inexperience and not of inability, so as these boys get a little more experience and clean up their mistakes, the sky is the limit. Another thing the community can be proud of is that referees always comment on the sportsmanship of our team, and also the intensity in which we play.

Like I said, all of our players deserve mention, because they have done some outstanding things on the football field. Our sixth graders are very raw, and havenít yet played a game, but I like what I have seen in this group.
These boys have earned a lot of respect for Jackson County in the state with how hard the have played, and with their behavior as well.
Our football program at JCMS, is funded solely by fundraising, gate/concession money at what few home games we have, and donations. Anyone willing to donate time/and or money, should contact Mrs. Cornett at JCMS. It takes a lot of people helping out to make sure our program can have operation costs (money for bus drivers and diesel and to feed the boys for the away games, and the cost to replace damaged equipment). We also need volunteers to help with gate/concessions, or fund-raising.
On behalf of the JCMS Colonels, we want to thank the people of Jackson County for their support. When we have played at home, we always have a packed house, and a large number of parents and supporters travel to watch us. That means a lot to us.
Thank you and God Bless,
JCMS 2009 Colonels
