Teen driver kills pedestrian in DeSoto County

The Florida Highway Patrol says Juliana Erien Delmonte, or Arcadia, was southbound on US-17 just after 5 a.m. when she veered off the road just south of SW Fletcher Street .

I feel awful for the man that was killed. He didnt seem mentally stable but im sure everyone knew this man.he never harmed noone or ever got out of the way. All he would do is walk and walk allday of everyday. I want to say that justice was not served. This female obviously was not paying attention and I dont even see why a 16 year old was out driving alone at 5 AM. Even though her intentions were to not kill this man, she tore him apart. She took this mans life and all she is charged with is a lousy ticket of failure to not staying in her lane. Are you kidding me!? She walks away from this with her life, her family, and she will be ok. I seen this man on a daily and my heart breaks for him. Next time, pay attention, get off your PHONE, and save a life!

She was driving to work at five in the morning. And the man was wearing dark clothing. If you're going to walk at dark time always wear something bright. This was nobody's fault, it was all an accident. My prayers go out to both families.

ANYTIME someone veers off the road and causes an accident ESPECIALLY causing death,they should automatically check their cell phone to see if they were texting or checking their Facebook.
We have to get tougher about 'cell phones while driving' laws.

It may have been an "accident", but it was an avoidable one IF SHE WAS WATCHING THE ROAD. My wife and I visit every winter from Canada, and can't believe how dangerously these local yokels drive. I'm surprised more people haven't died.

I agree that some teenager should not be driving, and yes its horrible what happen, I agree that she should be charged with something she gets to live to be 39 and that man does not. Where is the justices its ok to run a man over his life was less important then her paying attention. You claim she is a good person but the bible states you should not kill. I also agree that some people in Arcadia have too big of a vehicle that they should not be driving especial if you do not know how to drive or should not be driving at 5am because it results in you killing a poor innocent man.
