We have a lottery, but no casino? The Humphreys County commissioners doesn’t want to grow, and the blue collar workers have to travel too far for employment. The old timers that run this county doesn’t want the blue collar workers to prosper and they think that the younger generation can’t run the county so they set up a retirement community that is family owned and operated. They are afraid of change!!!! Also, the state government, allows advertisement of the lottery, and pushes it on people just as was did with cigarettes and alcohol, but they removed that from advertisement because it wasn’t generating enough revenue like the lottery will, and has. A casino would take the money from the state and give it to someone other than a lawmaker….

I have lived in Humphreys County for more years than I care to remember and I read the local newspaper every week and I have never heard there was any talk of a casino planned near here. We have to drive South of Memphis to Tunica, Mississippi and leave our money there. The first commenter said it all. Like most small rural areas, we are subject to the whims of the haves leaving little for the havenots.

" we are subject to the whims of the haves leaving little for the havenots. " This covers alot of people in not only the communities but, also, in government. Even the authorities benefit from keeping the have nots oppresssed and subjegated.

This is just "A Typical" of the way the "few" in power in Humphreys Co. do things. If they can't get "their" pockets lined good enough, or if it isn't "them" that are the ones to control & own something. It just doesn't get passed. This county is for the few, not the many. This puts me in mind of when liquor license got approved here, who got the license. The very select "few" !!! This is nothing new, and I feel sure it won't change, unfortunate, but true. One would think this could be fought, however here that just doesn't work. This Co. is surely a Co. that doesn't listen to the "real" residents!

Good for Humphreys County. You gamblers need to be saving your government checks and not dumping them into a casino's pockets.

If everyone would look past a casino or no casino they would see much more. This goes much deeper than just a casino. What we are looking at is just how much say do the residents in Humphreys County really have to say about what goes on here. I never saw, heard, or read anything about a casino here in the paper or on t.v. I think the real issue here is how our officials keep us in the dark about things, that should be voted on by the residents. Not just ruled on by the county commissioners. We are left-out in the dark about so many things that are of great importance to all residents here. Unfortunately we don't have a say in the really big issues that effect all of us. I feel we the residents should be better informed, and have a say about the things that really effect us. It should not be left up to just the opinions of a very small handful. Some will say that is what we have elected officials for. However, they are not elected by all the residents. If you think on election day your vote doesn't really count, just remember issues like this one.

I'm a resident of New Johnsonville, have been for 11 years, it's not that the county wants to grow, cause we're for economic growth, but when something that include gambling comes into the picture, everybody in the county (except me and my family) vote it down cause they think it's a sin. I've read the bible cover to cover and no where does it say gambling is a sin. If the county commissioners, city coucil members, and local mayors pull their heads out of their butts and see that people here are out of the job, they would might reconsider, but it doesn't work that way. It will always be the good ol' boy system out here in the sticks, and the only way that people that move here can get a job is either to sell drugs or be related to the person hosting the job. Nepotism persists here and I'm sick of it.

I can tell you this much, a casino would bring a huge number of high paying jobs to Humphreys County. I have worked in Tunica for many years and made a lot of money, had a lot of fun, and made a lot of friends. The casino's brought a lot of growth to a deserted part of Mississippi. As far as sin and crime coming with a casino--that comes with anything. Build a McDonald's and you contribute to the sin of gluttony, theft, etc. I was one of the people making phone calls and protesting the casino's before they were brought to Mississippi; then I saw how the advantages out weighed the dissadvantages.

humphreys county will never get a casino. i always heard that the only reason they tore down opryland for a mall was that you couldnt put a casino where a park was previously. so if we tn gets a casino i imagine it will be in the opry mills area. but with all the bible thumpers in tn it will never happen.

The wrong people are running this county.Jobs are not as important to the erected officals here as mantaining their power structure. Have you ever asked yourself why you keep seing the same last names in our local governemnt. It because not enough people vote. We hope to change that next election.Things are happening here that could completey change the county for the good, if we all band together and vote for people who we be honest and help the citizens of this county prosper, not just their own bank accounts.

Come on people of Humphreys Co. Lets get rid of the powers at be and elect some people that haven't had 5 generations living here forever. I for one would love to see a casino here. It would produce more jobs & revenue to this County. Those who don't want to go to the casinos don't have to, the rest of us would have a place close at hand to go to for some fun. You have to admit that there is NOTHING TO DO HERE! After all we are adults and should be able to make a decision that would benifit more than half of our population. So how about the County Commision just butt out and let the true residents make a decission for a change. After all we do live in a democrate country.

I moved here from out of state have no family and went to work with no problem, maybe if you had better attitudes instead of sitting around gripeing and hollering conspricy you could get a job. MO + Ron = MORON! MY wife is not from here went right to work here, she has no family here and we got jobs and you people have lived here all your life, WHATSUPWITDAT! and by the way, its against state law to gamble so the 5 generations of family that run things around here couldnt open a casino if they wanted because local laws cant overide state laws. and if you dont like the folks that run the county. run against them, some of you gripe about the schools but guess what, every school board member ran unimposed in the last 2 elections. so if no one runs against them that means every one is happy! the sherrif ran with no comp. you people are nuts
