There was a car wreck down River Road Wednesday June 25. I had my 2 children with me when we went over the river bank backwards about 15-20ft. I called the police at 3:41 from my cell phone. We stood in the pouring down rain for over 4 hours waiting on the police to show. No State, No County, not even a volunteer came to help us . Ok... nobody was seriously hurt and it was a one car accident, but what would it have hurt to at least come to the accident and say...sorry, but you'll have to do a civilian accident report or better yet...here let your kids set in my squad car since it's raining. They didn't even show. I bet if I didn't pay my taxes they'd be down here in 15 squad cars beatin' my door down tryin' to take everything I own. OH and for the NONDRIVERS....if you "WONT BACK UP FOR ANYONE" or you're "TO SCARED TO" then you need to stay off this road...cause next time I'll put my car in park and shut it off before I take a chance on my kids life again. If it hadn't been for a tree, we'd been in the river...probably dead. Thanks to Craig and April for standing in the pouring rain with us the ENTIRE time...Thanks to Mountain Water guys for stopping and other friends and family who stopped...Most of all Thanks to Ronnie Williams (who lives down River Rd.)and his crew for getting the car out with the truck they move mobile homes with. They got the car out without ANY damages other than what I done to it myself. Not even a scratch on the bumper from the chains that were hooked to it. Those guys know what they're doin'. I'd HIGHLY recommend them to move a mountain or a mobile home. Last but not least....Thanks to my brother who was in the car when they brought it up on the road.

That's a shame so glad you and your kids are OK. Where was our great fire department at do they not respond to this? That road is so dangerous I won't even drive down there.

Nobody responded....I even asked 911 to call a wrecker service for me too and they didn't come either. My husband had to come from Chapmanville, WV where he works to help us. He went to Tony's and they said they couldn't get it out with their truck. Everybody else that was called was afraid to pull it out for fear of turning the car over. The sad thing about it...is I was backing up for a woman who only had to back up 10ft and be in a wide spot and refused to do so.I had to back up 100ft plus around a curve. Her and a grown man and a little boy got out and they asked if we were ok....I finally got out of the car and tried to climb the hill they just stood there....the little boy reaches his hand down to help me get up and the granny tells him not to because he'll go over the hill tryin' to help me up. HELLO.... THEN...she looks down at my car and says well I hate that I really do, but I'm not backing up for nobody. Mountain Water guys were standing there when she said it....I think they were as shocked as I was. If she hadn't been a granny I'd probably hit her. So much for southern hospitality!!!

Then again...if Helmin Dotson would get his crew to do their job once in a while like say....CUT THE WEEDS that are as tall as I am, you could tell where the wide spots are and wouldn't have to worry about goin' into the ditch or over the river. Guardrails would be a good idea too. Then again we're lucky to even get our road partially fixed with him in office. How about it Helmin... is it gonna take someone getting killed before something is done with RIVER RD?

I am very bad at backing up but she should have got out and let the guy back up so you wouldn't have to back up so far seems to me the person that is the closes to a wide spot should be the one that backs up it's a shame that the little boy was the only one offering to help you. I hope it never happens but her time will come. You should have just set there until she backed up since she was so near. They should put somebody down there to cut the weeds cause it is a very dangerous road and you never can see the edge. And again I am glad you and your kids are OK. I can't understand why the guy on Radio Hill would not assist you since he has big trucks available?

Tony (the guy on radio hill) sent his guys to look at it, but they couldn't get his truck turned the right way where the road is so small and his truck is so big. They were the only ones who even looked at it. They said if nobody else would come and get it out they'd get it the next morning, but I wasn't leaving my car in there over night. Everybody else said no over the phone!

We always called Don Hatfield and Butch when we had any trouble they were always very good to come out any time of the day or night to help us. But I don't blame you wouldn't leave my car down there all night either. But Mr. Hatfield died and I don't now if they are anyone running the wrecker service anymore.

I called 911 myself because the call went to Matewan where I was in roam on my cell and they transferred me over to Pike county and I talked to them myself...after 2 hours of no-show a neighbor called and they said they were on their way and NEVER showed....
