How much did David Hoyle and those people that own property along the proposed parkway pay this politician to open up this rancid wound?

Last November after the elections Pat McCrory told me that the toll road was Dead.

What a politician who changed his mind? Who would have thunk it? I also heard the Federal Govt has agreed to help fight the legal action against the GP. This thing is going to happen.

But at least Bumgardner can say he tired to kill it, sort of suspicious the timing of his bill like he tried to get it in just before the rebirth of the GP, but he has already claimed his bill is now dead. Another 'I am just one vote' local politician, seems like we have heard that before.

Oh, it's a comin'...

This development just across the river will be modeled after Crystal City in Arlington, VA.

The Garden Parkway is coming, this is coming...and a lot more. Gaston County will finally share in the prosperity just like every other county surrounding Charlotte.

Build the parkway and they will come...

Ever tried to drive in Crystal City? Would you want to live in Crystal City? It's one big hotel with a subway running through it...not even a REAL city. No place for quality of life - it's a big bedroom for visitors. Sorry - we don't want that here!

Interesting stuff - Thanks for sharing.

As for the Garden Parkway, I just wish it didn't have toll booths, and they included a Pedestrian walkway or bike lane.

It is interesting how the GP detractors all point to how the GP study shows little job creation in Gaston County vs S.C.. If you look at the Monroe Bypass study it is similar but it leaves out major independent development proposals that are 'dependent' on the project being completed. So developers can be planning large office complexes based on the GP, but the GP study does not include them as they are byproducts of the project.'Build it and they will come' is an accurate insight.

Now by the same token, the GP project does not include them for the environmental impact as well, but each of those projects will have to stand on their own merits.
No worries

It won't be in Belmont. You can just stand on the bank on this side of the Catawba and wave to everyone that's living life in the hustle and bustle of the fake city. However, for those that like to live a little...jumping on the Parkway and taking a five minute leisurely drive over there will be SWEET!

From that article:

"The difference of opinion emerged Thursday, when the House Finance Committee added an amendment to McCrory's transportation plan that would authorize the Cape Fear Skyway, the Garden Parkway and the Mid-Currituck Bridge."

How about rather than building three toll roads, they just build one road without tollgates and put bike lanes on it as well?

One tell tale sign will be when property owners start to harvest their trees before the state swoops in to buy the land. Watch for that.

Toll roads suck except for the people benefitting financially. Be careful what you wish for. Anyone who has ever lived with these roads knows first hand what I am talking about. Of course if one is old, retired & living behind a big wall it doesn't matter what monstrosity goes up around the neighborhood.
