Wing Restaurant/Carry out located in strip mall on Harlem, south
of Pershing Rd. in Lyons, IL.

And they are super delicious. So what is your point?

Who would want to stand in a line for 45 minutes, when one could cook
them at home in less time.

Wonder how many accidents happen at that intersection ... you know, the cars exiting - often while accelerating - onto 39th into oncoming traffic, in total disregard of the arrow pointing in the other direction that they are driving over.

Lyons has an overabundance of fast food joints, lower tier restaurants and bars. Unfortunately, the demographics here are not the type likely to attract most middle tier sit down restaurants. Add high local taxes (property, muni ultility, etc.) and water rates, and the amount of disposable income that residents have left is probably not sufficient to pay off initial investment (why communities like ours offer incentives), let alone sustainably support that type of business over the medium or long term.

Besides the fact that the zoo already has food venders and restaurants on-site, the traffic to and from the zoo by itself would not support a TGIF, Chili's or Buffalo Wild Wings.

I think if one had the knowledge of how to recrut businesses, it would be possible to hve some major development. The property along the DesPlaines River, including the shut down Matz property would be an excellent location for a Claim Jumper, and micro-brewery or similar restaurant. Having a deck out over the river would be a huge draw. The local demographics, including the residents of Riverside, McCook, Brookfield, etc.would provide sufficient business. But when the people in charge have their hands out, such businesses run away.

Can anyone explain why a trucking company (H C I Technologies) would donate almost $7,000 to Getty's campaign? Or why Merging Technologies donated $12,000. I can see the kick backs from Kurtz, Mackie, Superior, Lyons & Pinner, Golden Age, etc. for either contracts or to keep the inspectors at bay...

That could possibly still work, especially if you could incorporate a for profit recreational component - river trips, canoe or kayak rentals, etc. What about a small museum or forest preserve exhibits that would draw folks? But even without that, take a look at the Foundary in Aurora. Could the Metz property be transformed into an establishment like that?

Too bad VOL didn't look into and pursue recreational (rental of kayaks, roller blades, possibly a small athletic store, etc. on a real riverwalk, leveraging use of Stells's, etc.) and small business (shops, microbrewery, type of restaurant you describe) development north of Ogden for TIF 1, rather than residential condos in the early 2000s.

maybe like other smart business people they want to support an admin. that helps them and listens to concerns.they help themselves by stopping the tlc/mvp/vip from getting power and destroying our town again like they have done before.

Why don't you just look at the contributors to Getty campaign fund - it speaks for itself. How/why has he amassed well over $400,000 in funds, much of it coming from businesses in town or those doing business with the village. Its nothing more than legalized kickbacks. How about pushing bars to buy insurance from him? Oh, I forgot, he didn't know it was a conflict of interest...either he really is that stupid, or was lying to cover himself.

And what "development" have we seen. Getty claims to have developed new business, but what? When a restaurant moves in to where a restaurant was, that's just status quo. A basketball training business? Not a penny in sales tax.

Resident from Chicago brought up Lyons McCook Business Association and how Chris Getty has helped them. So why, is sharing info from the Illinois Board of Elections that demonstrates that in this case one hand is washing the other an ugly witch hunt? What appears ugly here is that the only publicly available information about an organization that on its face should be concerned with advocating, supporting and promoting local businesses involves campaign contributions to a very select group of political parties and one politician. What about contributing - if they feel they must be involved politically - to politicians on a county or state wide level? Maybe they need to hire Hanania for public relations, eh?

And things heat up on the issue of political parties in power using muni employees in ways during election cycles that raise eyebrows. Maybe some sort of legal direction will result from this

At least employees of Cicero have to reside there, so I've heard; if that's the case, then at least Cicero employees have some standing as taxpayers and residents to become involved politically, unlike non-resident employees of other municipalities that will remain un-named walking the streets and working the polls for the parties in power before and on election days.

I personally have no problem with a government employee taking a vacation day to campaign or work the polls on election day: just do it in your own town. You know: where you are registered to vote.

And labeling information you don't like a witch hunt isn't casting aspersions. The documentation from the State Board of Elections on money being contributed to campaign funds by this group doesn't assume a thing: it's reported by each campaign fund, as required by law here in Illinois.

Maybe you are making assumptions about money and this association, but all I mentioned is that - in the absence of any publicly available information about this group or any other things this group does - the only thing that can be known about it is that it gives campaign contribution money to the UCP Party and the Democrats of Lyons Township. And if its only function is to act as a conduit for political contributions while calling itself a business association...

You are aware that the Onion is a satirical "news" source? That what they print is all fiction?

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Pisces

It's a great day for fixing anything that needs attention now. That might be a dripping tap, a sick child, an unpaid bill or a miffed partner. However, you'll do particularly well if you need to sort out something connected with official or joint finances or red tape. You might be asked to help someone deal with a bureaucratic problem, especially if they're elderly.
