Maysville is a !@#$hole...still segregated, by choice, and full of non-working crack dealers and career criminals...some of which are supported and protected by the town alderman.

MarineWife24 - Hi! We're a couple of Maysville wives living here also. My husband retired from the Marine Corps and my friend's husband is still in. Maysville COULD be a wonderful little town and, in some ways, is. But, you are right to be concerned about the locals, especiallly the town board officials. They really are inept, corrupt and useless. The good news is that we have a new election coming up next November. Like you, many new marine families have moved in to this town and we are already organizing the new candidates for Town Board, Planning Board, School Board and County Commissioners. So, you are not alone - have faith - we will get the losers out and we will create a wonderful, safe, MILITARY community - without the hassles of living on base but with all the conveniences and values that go along with most decent, law abiding, hard working military families. We look forward to meeting you when you and your husband get to town - keep your eyes open for us - we're easy to spot because we all have teeth! Ha Ha! And you'll be able to understand us when we speak.....remember the more of us that move in, the less the criminals and local inbreds want to stay. LOL! And welcome......

Maysville Resident those are some harsh words about the people of maysville. I have all of my teeth and my wife and KIDS and we all speak well. I go to work everyday and my wife also who has a degree from uncw. That not a good way to get the people from maysville vote if you plan on running for board. When the voters in maysville see this comment it's going to be hard to get there votes. All people in maysville are not bad. Just like anywhere you go there is crime. Maysville resident maybe we will meet around town one day and maybe you can understand my talking. God Bless!!!

I have to agree with my nephew schumata brown, those are some harsh words to speak about the town, the local residents, and the town board members. I am a town board member myself(planning board) who has gone out of her way to welcome our new residents. I am offended that you would say such cruel things. I have to ask myself how in the world do these new residents plan on getting elected on the town board or any board in this county with that kind of attitude. These "inbreds", as you say, will have to vote for you. i also speak fluent english with a southern accent. i also raised 3 children in this town who are not career criminals. My youngest son has beautiful dread locks and wears white t-shirts and is NOT a drug dealer and he has a full time job. My oldest son is a barber in Jacksonville and his clients are military personel. My daughter is currently a college student, working on her degree in medical technology. I have been a medical technologist for 30 years. I just hope you realize this "inbred" that you cannot understand when she speaks, converses with medical professionals everyday. I just hope when you show up in my lab you will understand my life saving instructions that I give you. By the way, I also have all my teeth.

Hello Marinewife24,

I have been stationed in Camp Lejeune, for quite some time and never found the people of Maysville offensive. My wife and I just purchased some land and will be retiring soon in MAYSVILLE.
It is a growing community and in fact the area where I will be retiring will have very influential people.

I orignally grew up in New York and I know what crime is. Please judge this place for yourself!
If the Alderman is bad I have not met this person yet but I will.

I have only had good dealings wth the people of Maysville. Please watch who you get information from. I think the only real criminals are the ones that use titles to identify people.
Lastly, my grandmother grew up in South Carolina and could not spell a lick but that did not make her a bad person.

The only thing I know is that I will be retiring there and several of my friends will be as well.

My husband and our family also relocated to Maysville from Raleigh, NC. Although it has been a huge culture shock, I think you and your family will be pleasantly surprised. The area is beautiful and the people have been welcoming and for the most part, great! We have also fallen in love with the school system. The biggest adjustment we've had is slowing down enough to appreciate our surroundings.

In Maysville, we dont marry anyone any closer than 1st cousin, and we are thankful to God--yes we love and worship him here--for our teeth, whether they be real or false, rotten or not. You would be a welcome commodity at our reunions and pig pickins!

The language we speak is southern, and some say it is pretty close to the old Queen's English, similar to a high tider, ya'll can educate yourselves on that one. And, if the Marines ever needed a "back" it is people such as us here who have it.
Consequently, read up on the history of the Marine base, and you may find that many of us "inbreds" were displaced so the base could be built. We just moved onto other family farms. And for a while that was a good living. Families were closely bonded and kind. But remember that the culture here is of a very old coastal lineage.

Perhaps it would interest you to go to the library and read the area history. You may be shocked. You may also be shocked whom some of the families descended from and who they produced. Not everyone has to live in McMansions, drive beemers, and dine on gourmet to be happy.(Although, it may make me a bit happier.) And seafood---you are near some of the freshest and best. You can grow your own vegetables, go to New Bern and witness some great history, and hop over to beaches that people cherish.
I suggest that you try to give Maysville and her residents a chance. And, dont forget your toothbrush, and your own man. I aint sharing my cousins!

I'm a Maysville native and I just want to say that there r no inbreds here. i do agree with what u said about the politicians in this town. they r corrupt and we do need some new blood in those offices. It's always been, if u didn't have the last name or related u couldn't get anywhere around here. All of these people go to "The Pub" get drunk, drive home and walk into the office the next morning like they r above everyone and anyone.
I want to say also that there r drugs everywhere. U didn't live here when half of the police dept. got busted for growing pot. Nothing was done, they all moved to Florida.haha
They have turned the detention ctr into a money pit! Someone needs to explore all that goes on there. The prisoners aren't punished, the family is by all the money they spend there. If they could charge for air they would.
Glad to have all of u from the military here in our lil town.
I'm going for now but.......I'll b back.
