Kickstarter is a "crowdfunding" website. It connects artist to people willing to support and fund their art: Fiction, non-fiction, film, music, writing, art of all sorts. I've worked hard on my novel. Several people wanted copies and Kickstarter is a way to make that happen. Social media (like this site) is a means to inform people about a Kickstarter project. If I have offended you I am sorry, but writing is my art; I celebrate it. You are welcome to visit the public Facebook page and see writing samples ... or just purposelessly and ignorantly be hateful. Your call.

me thinks you doth protest too much

a rose is a rose and vanity press is vanity press
I don't like a braggard

Here is a definition of a vanity press

The term "vanity press" is sometimes considered pejorative and is often used to imply that an author who self-publishes using such a service is only publishing out of vanity and that his or her work could not be commercially successful. In other words, a work published by a vanity press is typically assumed to be unpublishable elsewhere or not publishable on a timely basis.

I plan on writing a series of 10 book. Three trilogies and a final book. I want to market the series to a publisher and I am attempting to build a fan base for the first book as to build momentum for, and make a case for, a traditional publishing run for the whole series in the coming year. Basically, initially self-publishing the first book is part test run, part marketing; I have actually done a lot of research specific to publishing "genre fiction" in the post-e-reader era and all my actions are very deliberate. For example, now there are seven comments on this thread, thanks! As far as quality, I again refer you to my samples. While I know I am no literary genius, I've read a lot within my genre, and have been read by others who can say the same, and I know my quality is spot on for the stories I aim to tell.

The Kickstarter is 33% to the fundraising goal with contributions from 30 backers.

If anyone else is interested in Kickstarter in general or this specific project, I'd be glad to discuss it with them.

Hey he wan't looking for congrats, he wants honor, but more importantly he wants you to buy his book. He needs to pay for the vanity press publishing.

I know these presses are a dime a dozen , but he wants considerably more.

Ha! Thanks for the support. I understand your frustrations. I would not be so bold as to accuse anyone specifically, and would caution you the same. However, I DEFINITELY understand your frustration and, again, THANK YOU for the support.

WOW! Heathenridge, you have a real hate-on for me. I am just trying to promote my book. You are becoming downright hostile. Again, if I offended you I apologize. I don't see how my use of social media to garner business and support for my art from my community disturbs you so, it is not like I am violating the fair use policy of the website or anything. Sheesh!

Upon what basis do you need to so rudely "police" my perfectly legitimate activity?

@Author: Congratulations on the novel! It is inspiring to see creative ambition and drive, locally. Crackerjack seems like a person who would like to write a novel, but lacks imagination and resources, and develops as many excuses as he can to avoid the work of it. Jealousy is most likely at the root of his scathing, pointless comments.

Several local authors are known for having small book signings at the nearby libraries; do you have any plans for a signing?

Your self promotion reaked of hubris and rank snake oil salesmanship.

Learn some humility.

I also thought it was mercenary and self-seeking.

Very unkind of you to try and take advantage of us innocent posters.

Thanks for the input.
Especially the snarky little "judge" icons.
I have clearly learned that Topix,
while a local social media,
is on the whole,
a cesspool of degenerate, hateful, gossip mongers
and it was folly to try to reach my audience here.

Had some entertaining moments slumming it, though.
So while I've learned my lesson and won't be back,
I do want to thank you for the education.

...and to the those genuinely polite and supportive,
you retain my genuine gratitude.

Actually, if you'd check the links rather than speaking from your ignorance, you'd see that I had sold quite a bit before I ever posted here. This page is the wrong audience... clearly...

Thanks for asking though.

Mac, this IS the wrong place to market your book. GTFO!

Others, you bitches be crazy! Ads all over Topix and you act like he came in your house and shat on your new carpet. Like Topix is too good for an ad. Protecting Topix from him is like protecting a litter box from a steak ... who really needs the protection? Get over yourselves, bitches, you're trash. You just proved it!
