Isn’t it wonderful that we live in a county where we already pay too high of a school tax and then school officials allow spending of over $800,000.00 for new iPads for students of Mason County. Has anyone on the school board ever heard of responsible spending, I think not. This irresponsible spending just goes to show you that this school is raking in the dough at taxpayers expense. Then I hear thru the news media that students will have the option to purchase these iPads at a reduced cost once the school year is over. Aren’t these iPads the property of us, the taxpayers? After all, a portion of my tax dollars were used to purchase these things so why not give me or any other taxpayer the option to buy one if we choose. Is this even legal?

I am not paying for an iPad if it gets broken at the school. I don't support the use of them over books unless they make them a little more durable.

Right now the schools internet doesn't support even being able to download the books needed. They have no way to control the content in place. Kids could search for porn on the iPad and the school personnel wouldn't ever know.

Stop complaining about our school systems spending and be happy that our children are getting the education most kids should have. I pay as much out in taxes as you & any other working person here in mason county but as long as I see our kids progressing positively I'm not going to complain about the way the board here spends the money we're paying. So grow up & be thankful that they can supply them with better equipment to be educated by you hypocrite. Oh & if they offer the iPad at a discount at the end of the year that's great. It just means they can use it during the break & still have it for the next year.

I don't know where your getting your information from about not having the ability to download the correct content because I was at the school today & logged onto the wifi network with my iPhone just fine. As far as what the kids are looking at on the iPad you the parent needs to sit down with your child's iPad and change the settings to on accept & download material that is age appropriate for them. Goto settings then general slide down to restrictions and inside of that you will be able to rate your child's iPad to an appropriate setting. That's called getting involved with your child's education you should try it sometime;-) ;-)

oh & no you don't have to pay for the iPad if the kid breaks it. It has an insurance that is paid before they are assigned & given out.

The school did not pay for them, they got a grant from MSU, if you knew the facts then you would know that. And kids can't buy them until the end of their senior year and the seniors this year can't do that. The insurance only covers part of the damages of something happens.

I have every right to complain about how money is being spent at Mason County school system. To quote you “I pay as much out in taxes as you & any other working person here in mason county.” Have you ever looked at you property tax bill and see how much of it goes toward the school tax. I have and it 50%. Just think about it for a minute, every piece of property in Mason County, and there are some very expensive properties, paying a school tax rate of 50%. That is a LOT of money. And you think it’s great that students are able to purchase the iPads at the end of the year. These iPads are not the property of students, they belong to the school which my tax dollar help run. Did you know that after a three year period that all of the iPads are going to be replaced. It that going to cost us another $800,000.?

Free lunch and free iPads. That's what we need to teach the kids. Everything in life is free. Don't work for anything just let someone hand it to you. Idiots

like I said above I DON'T CARE MY CHILD GETS A GOOD EDUCATION SOME OTHER DISTRICTS DON'T I'm not going to complain about that. And even if they didn't have the iPads the taxes would still most Likely be the same as they are now so why gripe about about the education system here. At least it's not like Fleming county's. These iPads didn't cost a dime other than the money for the apps & insurance it was supplied by a grant. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT FIRST.

lunch is only free if your income is to low to pay in fact since your making the complaint that lunch is free As the iPads are gives me the impression your kid is on a free lunch plan so that means part of the taxes I pay supply that along with everyone else. YOUR WELCOME.

Funny how some people have a lot to say about what money should NOT be spent on, but refuse to offer any constructive ideas what they think it should be spent on...The iPad does offer a lot of help in teaching and learning...It's basically a moble desk, library, meeting place, a great tool for anything..

How many parents are going to pawn them off or sell them to get drug money, but tell the school it was lost and just get another. Sounds like a great plan to me.

No idea or program is fail safe...People will always exploit any situation...Look no further than that crook Mitt Romney hiding is money and only paying 13% on taxes..And that's just what he claimed on taxes..I'm sure the actual percent is much lower...Bottom line in this IPad situation is that much more good will come out of it than bad...If you want to cry foul, then start doing it to the people that are really taking your money.

Why don't you get some dignity and work for something instead getting a hand out. Maybe we all need to get government help and we could all sit at home and get fat
