should the minimum wage be increased from $7.25 to $9.00 per hour, and how would it effect the economy.

An increase will result in less jobs the current wage is set by supply and demand if you raise it you end up with less jobs - no way around it - want more money get an education

when the minimum wage goes up so does the cost of basic goods and services thereby giving everyone that makes more than minimum wage a pay cut, at least in the short term. imo minimum wage is no more than a political pawn.merit raises and skills and education will get you farther faster. if you make it $100 per hour it will still be the minimum, thereby keeping you at the bottom of the food chain, and once the economy resets to it, it still wont be enough to live on.only thing that really does is screw the elderly and others on fixed incomes.

This is true, but we could freeze the wages to government employs, and give that raise to minimum wage employs, and the results would be the same. The government employs would still be making twice or three times as much at $9.00 per hr. not counting benifets.....LIVE AND LET LIVE!!!!

minimum wage was NOT meant as a wage to support families on as big 0 assumes.

mainly for part time and beginning wage with low qualifications and skills - fast food, store checkout, day care, senior care, cleaning, watching and sleeping jobs, etc.

if raised you will see price increases in many services and products. cost of living will rise for many.

I could follow your logic and demand that wages be lowered, so prices would go down and jobs would be created?
Everyone thinks they have the answer, but they produce nothing but cliche talking points. And fiscal conservatives are the worst.

Where are those sleeping jobs? I am more than qualified. Overtime is not a problem.

So are we really selfish enough that we don't want all workers to make a living wage because we want to save a buck or two every week? Do people not realize that we have to give these people tax money for help with food, rent, utilities and school? I say if they are willing to work instead of mooching we should want them to make more. If they make more won't they also spend more (and pay more taxes)? That, my friends, creates jobs.

many of the jobs watching seniors all nite involve some sleeping. city pays 2 firemen to sleep. 911 and ambulance folks likely get some shut-eye at work.

I'M all for it if you pay for it,i have all i can for now,i'm sure you wont mind paying your part maybe give up your food stamps, and no we dont have to give these ppl money for anything,by the time O'is out of office you wont then recieve all these things because he is getting rid of them, simply because we cant borrow enough money nor raise taxes enough to pay the bills, this one thing that is good about O's spending when he leaves the free will be gone, you can take this to the bank.

The main thing is if min. wage has an increase to say $10 p/hr your mcdoubles will no longer be a dollar they would probably about 2.50-$2.60 each. It is trickle-up economics.

You make no sense at all. Don't you see that we are already subsidizing the low income population? We always have and always will, but if someone is willing to work they should be paid enough to live on. Then they will pay their own way and contribute more to the economy and pay more taxes. Everyone wins.

There are ppl that actually think that the gov. owes them something, but if Obama can get everyone thinking the same way then he has everyone paying because he will raise the cost of everything untill what the ppl are getting free wont be free, and when he needs more money he will raise taxes, but that is about to come to an end.

Wrong,if they are willing to work they need to go where the can get paid more, you are never going to make any money here,no one is going to pay any money in pocahontas, you cant force them to they will move,no one owe's you a job at your front door, its not here now it wasn't ten years ago except waterloo, poky is not going to have jobs and we cant furnish everyone a job, especially if you wont pay for it,now how are you going to do that,oh i've got it you want someone else to pay,not you.

$9 is not going to make them into federal taxpayers.

47% do not pay federal taxes now.
