this comment was posted about WKRT on Tuesday of this week. It's strange that it has disappeared from all sites where it was posted. Did someone NOT want it posted?????

Is West Kentucky Rural Telephone a Cooperative or Company? This is the question I have asked myself since January of 2008. I feel they have lost touch with what a cooperative is supposed to be. If you are a WKRT Cooperative active member, according to its CEO, you have not received a capital check in six years! But that’s not the reason I am writing this letter. I am writing to inform members of the Co-op about the Estate Capital they have invested or their loved ones invested over the years.

Eighteen months have passed since I took a copy of my mother’s death certificate and proof that I was the executor of her estate to the WKRT Mayfield office. After several inquiries, I received a letter from WKRT on June 6, 2009. It seems that the Co-op has changed the way their Estate Capital is paid. The letter I received from WKRT Cooperative stated that my mother’s Estate Capital was $572.83, but the amount of Patronage Capital Credit Refund to retire my mother’s account was $86.63(which I considered a buy-out) or the full amount would possibly be paid out over a 30 year period. It is my understanding; Estate Capital had been paid in full prior to January of 2008. It seems that the board has changed this means of paying Estate Capital from what the By-Laws on page 30 of their 2009 phone book state. To my knowledge, NO West Kentucky Rural Telephone patrons were informed of this change.

In PROTEST, I plan to cancel the landline service provided by WKRT and depend solely on my cell phone. I informed the CEO that I would take the $86.63, but I would also Cancel my membership in the Co-op. The CEO has expressed concern over the canceling of my membership. In our last conversation of June 25, 2009, he offered me a service which WKRT provides of which I had no interest or the opportunity to purchase a computer at cost. I told him in that conversation the ONLY thing I ask of WKRT Cooperative is to pay IN FULL the money owed to my mother’s estate now.

I would hope that other ACTIVE members of the Co-op would express their concern for the
the way that West Kentucky Rural Telephone has chosen to deal with members who are only asking for what is DUE in Patronage Estate Capital!

I agree with you that it sounds like a buy out. I have not been informed of any changes but have received a card in the mail each year telling me the amount of the credit to be paid over time. Sounds to me like all those on WK should write in complains and sign them. I haven't got a check from them in years but yet they still send those cards talking about it. What's going on?

How in the devil can they offer a pay out over a 30 year period when in 30 years I will not even be alive. I'm over retirement age now.

All members need to demand some answers and the money owed to them. After all, they don't mind turning your service off if you are a day late.

Ok if they got sued was the person able to support their claim that they were not hired based on race or were they not hired due to qualifications for the job. You can't start this without a final answer as to what happened.

Then I am glad he/she won their case. WK should pay someone something since they rip the customers off so bad.

Maybe WKRT can turn off those lights that blind you if you pull in after hours to pay your bill in the night box...that thing must cost us all something to run a year.

I have heard the CEO took vacation in England for 2 weeks at WKY customers expense. Have heard of him inviting 10 friends and the 10 friends got to invite one of their friends to Canada for huntingl This is where the Patroage Refund money that we used to get goes pays for CEO's vacations.

Ernie that that did not get the job for Right A Way job was more qualified for the job than person that got the job. Ernie works in local PVA office and Trevor hired an out of state person (think from Iowa) for the job. Who do you think would be more qualified for the job local person that knows the area or someone that moved to Graves County here after getting the job???

Have you noticed people on AT-T can get discount phone companies (ie vontage) like $50.00 per month, call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding and unlimited long distant. W KY charges over $30.00 for just caller ID and call waiting. We need to clean out the board but they have their meeting same day as St. Charles Picnic.

I have DSL, TV and land line from WKRT. PHone bill never less than $158 a month. You can't rent movies through the service either and movie channels such as HBO, ShowTime, ect., are at an additional charge. DSL is great, but other stuff not so much.

How about Mayfield Electric & Water's broadbond setup? Any customers satisfied or not? How much a month? Would switch if I could find another internet option.
